Second Annual NFL Playoff Pick 'em - Wild Card Round Edition: Picks due by Saturday Noon EST. Details inside.

Here's how she works. You pick who you think will win, and by how much. You then get points based on the result: * picked the winner? You get 1 point. * picked the winner, and a spread within the Margin of Error? You get 2 points. * picked the winner, and you nailed the spread right on? You get 3 points. * didn't pick the winner, but nailed the spread right on? You get 1 point. What's the Margin of Error? It's a window around the spread that's defined as: spread - round(0.3 * spread) < margin of error=spread + round(0.3 * spread) This Weeks games: NFC: Redskins at Seahawks Sat 4:30 pm EST Giants at Bucs Sun 1:00 pm EST AFC: Jaguars at Steelers Sat 8:00 pm EST Titans at Chargers Sun 4:30 pm EST. Bonus question: Which player will have the most YAC and what will it be? Scoring same as game.

NoMich's Assemblage of Non-Whites goes with: NFC Redskins by 5 Bucs by 4 AFC Jaguars by 6 Chargers by 5 YAC?

NFC Skins by 7 Giants by 3 AFC Steelers by 5 Bolts by 13

NFC Redskins by 8 Buccaneers by 13 AFC Steelers by 3 Titans by 6 YAC = i think yards after catch. so for that, Willie Reid of the Steelers, with 104 total YAC.

Seahawks by 7 Giants (I know - what?) by 4 Steelers by 3 Chargers by 11 YAC - Me, if I accidentally eat that crab dip again. For the love of god mayonnaise just should not comprise 90% of anything. But are we talking Yards after the Catch? Odd - but I'll take LT with 60.

PondChickens by 5 G-men by 3 Jags by 9 Bolts by 17 YAC=89 in a losing effort for Joey Galloway

YAC is yards after catch. Sorry.

I can thank the esteemed John Madden for that useful knowledge.

Thanks for the YAC clarification. I go with: NFC Redskins by 5 Bucs by 4 AFC Jaguars by 6 Chargers by 5 YAC: Tomlinson with 55 Oh, and thanks a billion for doing this apoch. I did it one year and while it was fun to do, it was a load of work. So, my hat is doffed to you for doing this.

Hawks by 10 Bucs by 6 Jags by 4 Chargers by 10 YAC Branch 74 Thanks, apoch!

I haven't found a good place to find YAC as opposed to just plain receiving yards, so the bonus will have to be receiving yards instead of YAC. Sorry.

YAC or whatever LT 97

posted by Monica Poland at 06:55 PM on December 31

OK, so the receiving yardage champion goes to Plaxico Burress with 125.

posted by NoMich at 08:11 PM on December 31

This is a little weird for me. As a fairly casual NFL fan, and therefore one that tends towards the major storylines of the year, it's difficult to remind myself that there are other games of significance besides those played by the Patriots. Seahawks by 10 Giants by 24 Steelers by 14 Titans by 3 Reccie Yardsley is the Plax-man with 112.

Seahawks by 6 Bucs by 3 Steelers by 3 Chargers by 9 Receiving yardage (not YAK): Nate Burleson: 101

NFC Seahawks by 7 Giants by 13 AFC Steelers by 17 Titans by 3 YAC: Santonio Holmes, 85 yackers

I put in a YAC, so let's change that to receiving yards, Plaxico Burress, 122.

posted by lil_brown_bat at 01:26 PM on January 01

I'm lost Is it YAC or receiving yards?

posted by louisville_slugger at 05:02 PM on January 01

Receiving yards.

posted by Ying Yang Mafia at 05:25 PM on January 01

If it's YAC, I'm sticking with my pick. If it's total receiving yards, I'm going with Burress, 112 yards.

posted by grum@work at 05:26 PM on January 01

Holmes 117

posted by tselson at 05:52 PM on January 01

If it's receiving, I'll takle Burress for 108 yards. If it's YAC as Apoch said, I'll still takle LT with 65.

posted by louisville_slugger at 06:27 PM on January 01

I think it was originally YAC but changed to receiving yards.

Quoth apoch: I haven't found a good place to find YAC as opposed to just plain receiving yards, so the bonus will have to be receiving yards instead of YAC. Sorry. So, yes, it's been changed to receving yards.

So, did anyone figure what the margins of error for the spreads were? Not that I think I came close enough on any game, but...

posted by lil_brown_bat at 08:39 AM on January 07

If my methodology is correct -- been a while since I've attempted real math (note: these are rounded) Jax - 1-3 SD - 8-14 NYG - 7-13 SEA - 15-27

posted by Ufez Jones at 09:31 AM on January 07

Ufez: by your math, I get two more points, so I declare your math to be good. Looks like the winner on receiving yards was Hines Ward with 135, who was chosen by...nobody? Is that right? Damn, I almost took him, too.

posted by lil_brown_bat at 09:58 AM on January 07

I have the margins and everything at home. I'll post the update tonight. Ufez's numbers are either right or very close from what little I can remember. Nobody took Ward, which I thought was a little surprising. Lot of points awarded for Yardage.

posted by apoch at 11:02 AM on January 07

Oh yeah, forgot about yardage. I'm getting a range of 95-176 yards on that one, which, yeah, should include most everyone.

posted by Ufez Jones at 01:52 PM on January 07

But nobody picked Ward. No points if you didn't pick Ward!

posted by lil_brown_bat at 01:55 PM on January 07

I'm glad you pointed that out. I'll have to fix that before I post the table, and nobody predicted 135 so no points at all on the bonus.

posted by apoch at 04:02 PM on January 07

Oh, sheesh. Yeah. Damn Mondays....

posted by Ufez Jones at 04:09 PM on January 07

I picked three games right but managed to miss every single margin of error.

posted by Ying Yang Mafia at 06:28 PM on January 07

I got all 4 games, nailed NYG spread right on the button. Just missed Jags game by 1. When do I get a trophy for Most Homeruns in all of MLB?
