Sports Bio

Most memorable sports moment: Attended the 1988 sweet 16, and the parade in downtown Lawrence after the Jayhawks won it all.

Religiously follow the Jayhawks in everything (yes, even football)
Also love the Chiefs, Royals, and LSU Football.

KC Area Meet-up I was going to email all of the SpoFites that I know are in the Kansas City area, but I found that a lot of you don't have email addresses in your profile. Anyhow, Tinman and I have been tossing around the idea of a meet-up, including possibly beer, barbecue, and a Royals game. Of course, all are welcome, even you St. Louis area Mizzou fans. I know brainofdtrain and monkeyhawkare in the area. Also BoKnows is in the St. Louis area, and it's only a four hour drive. My email is in my profile if anyone is interested.

The Hoser's NFL Picks, Week One 2008 Welcome back to another season of the NFL's most misguided and useless handicapping sheet. At least the price is right.

Fraze, you really think the Chiefs can score 17? I don't think the defense can pull that off, and the offense sure as hell ain't going to do it.

9 year old with a 40 mph fastball, gets the boot. I'm not sure what to make of this. On one hand I can see the punishment for being very good. On the other hand they allowed him to either play a different position or go up to the next level. I really dont know what to think about this but I have a 9 year old who I think could hit him :)

I love SpoFi. Where else can you coordinate a sports story with Kurt Vonnegut?

Why do you support who you do? Interesting discussion going on in an Ask MetaFilter thread.

Growing up on a farm in Central Kansas, you don't have a lot of choices. I spent a lot of time listening to the Royals at night, with me, my father, grandfather, and great-grandfather all in the same room. Great-grandad loved Amos Otis and Cookie Rojas. I never appreciated those evenings enough at the time, but now they are some of my favorite memories.

College-wise, it's an easy guess, considering my screen name and the fact that I now live in Lawrence. Jayhawks, baby. I fear that this year being a Jayhawk will pale in comparison to last season (how could it not?) I also pay attention to LSU, since I spent a lot of time in S.E. Louisiana for work in the past.

Love the Chiefs, too, even though it looks like they might rival the Dolphins in suckitude this season. Go away Carl Peterson!

The USA gold rush is on.... BEIJING - Americans Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser will play for the gold medal in beach volleyball. BEIJING - Crystl Bustos hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning as the U.S. Olympic softball team beat Japan 4-1 in extra innings and will play for its fourth straight gold medal. BEIJING - Americans Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor will play in the women's final Thursday against China.

I could almost see your point till the last comment, Drood. That said, regardless of the country of origin, there will always be homerism in sports. It defines the nature of sports. If you want to brag on your team, by all means you have the right to post something. I agree with Sttel Town. If a post pisses you off, skip it.

It was very ugly for Uggla NEW YORK -- They cheered the legends. They cheered the hometown heroes. They cheered the old owner. They booed the commissioner, booed Terry Francona and Billy Wagner, even booed Sarah Jessica Parker. But towards the merciful end of The All-Star Game That Would Never End, the Yankee Stadium Bleacher Creatures had energy only for one chant: "Hit it to Uggla."

Nadal-Federer epic the most thrilling of all the Wimbledon finals I came here to see what the buzz was and was shocked to see Nadal/Federer hadn't been posted already. I only saw part of the match and sadly missed most of the last set, but it seemed pretty epic to me, especially during the 4th set tiebreaker.

I think your Royals example may be a touch off base. Soria has a 1.62 ERA, 44 k's aganst 17 walks, and has converted 23 saves in 25 opportunities. I think he deserves it, and I think quite a few Royals fans who are only casual baseball fans overall would watch.
