Small Bug Only issue I've noticed recently. In the member pages (my own is the link cited), the old menu appears in the upper right corner, as it was before the remodel. And assumably due to said remodel, all the links but "home", "about", and "locker room" are dead. If this has been hit before, my apologies. And if this is in process, again the apologies. Just thought I'd bring it to light.

Questionable Call Near the end of the Broncos-Chargers game today, there was a very curious call on the fumble/incompletion by Jay Cutler near the end of the game. The play was clearly a fumble by every replay, but because referee Ed Hochuli had blown the play dead, the ball returned to the Broncos at the spot of the fumble instead of going to the Chargers by way of recovering the fumble. The Broncoes went on to score a touchdown, a 2-point conversion, and win the game 39-38.

Curious Thought about NFL Sundays Question for the elders of SF. Has the site ever considered posting a thread for live discussion on Sundays during the NFL season?

Olympic Traitor? Chris Kaman of the Clippers, a US citizen, obtained German citizenship and plays basketball for the German Olympic team in these Olympics. He is three generations removed from his great-grandparents who came here from the motherland. There's some dispute about whether a US citizen playing for another national team is kosher. Opinions?

Sidney Crosby = the new Larry Bird? "Some even suggest that having Crosby in the Cup finals could give the NHL the same enormous boost in popularity the NBA received way back in 1984, when Magic Johnson of the Los Angeles Lakers and Larry Bird of the Boston Celtics met in that league's championship series." Well then.

Pistons get Iverson for Billups, McDyess, Samb It appears the promised shake-up has come to the Pistons. The Pistons are expected to trade guard Chauncey Billups, forward Antonio McDyess and center Cheikh Samb to the Denver Nuggets for guard Allen Iverson, the Free Press has learned.

I'd have to agree with bob that sport and politics don't usually blend well, especially when we get to issues that people such as fraze feel so passionately about, and in my opinion for good reason. An argument like this seems to pop up around at least one team every year, but yet nothing ever changes. I might be remembering wrong, but I believe there was a stink a couple years ago over the Seminoles of Florida State, again as bob mentioned. It's an issue that should continue to be examined, but it seems to merely create bad blood among friends here.
I'd also bring up the point that if animals were intelligent and disagreed with our naming mascots after them, whatever would we do? No mascots ever.

Favre Accused of Helping Packers Opponent Brett Favre phoned officials of the Detroit Lions prior to their game with the Green Bay Packers and gave an hour-long tutorial on the Packers offense, Fox Sports' Jay Glazer claimed today. If true, it didn't help -- the Pack won 45-28.

So amaztek, about that whole addiction thing.
To quote this article: "The NFL doctors kept calling. Favre kept ignoring them. Finally, a league doctor called and said Favre had been classified as behavioral-referred instead of self-referred because the Packers' team doctors had contacted the NFL about his addiction to painkillers.
Now, Favre had no choice. He had to report to the Menninger Clinic or he would be fined four weeks' pay, or about $900,000."
Now, I don't know about the rest of you, but I wouldn't really call that "voluntarily going into treatment". Your statement about "NO ONE in the packers organization forcing him to go" is true. They tried, it didn't work, so they called the NFL. Nice try there. Oh, and by the way, why should one not bring the addiction up? It's a part of his life and career just as much as every start, pass, touchdown, and interception he's ever had.

Hello World! Rays beat Bosox in Game 7, Advance to World Series The young Rays completed a stunning run to their first pennant,...behind Matt Garza's masterful pitching in Game 7 of the AL championship series. When rookie David Price struck out J.D. Drew with the bases loaded to end the eighth inning, Tampa Bay showed it had plenty of resolve.

Maddon's conficence in Price's nerve payed off. Think about being a rookie coming into Game 7 of the ALCS to earn the save with the bases loaded without earning a save in the majors before that. Remarkable job. Also, after the Pedroia home run in the first at-bat of the game, Garza was exceptional and deserving of the MVP, wonderful start. Congrats to the Rays, and what a series.
My dad called me right after the game got done, and I mentioned the fact that had I said eight months ago that the Rays would be in the Series, I might've been sent to an asylum.
Clemson Fires Tommy Bowden In a season where some Clemson fans saw their "sky-high expectations" vanish in a 3-3 start the school fired Head Coach Tommy Bowden after 10 years. Just last December, Bowden got a $500,000 raise to a yearly salary of $1.8 million. He has a $4 million buyout. "It's what he deserved," senior quarterback Cullen Harper told ESPN.

As someone who currently attends an NCAA Div. I-AA school, I like college sports because I'm in college. I also think college sports are interesting because a team can change so drastically from year to year due to graduation. There are always fresh faces after five years at the most, and things are always changing.
That's just me though, and I'm not a huge fan of the college world other than UNI football. I observe when there's not much else on.
I will be in Washington DC on Saturday... and so will the US soccer team, playing Cuba at the RFK. I'm toying with the idea of going along. Anyone fancy it?

A Prayer for the Tampa Bay Rays While the Cubs fan has the pity of national baseball writers and the consolation of a fraternity of similarly deluded millions, Rays fans are seen as a possibly spectral phenomenon. Dick Vitale is the team's only celebrity fan; a great proportion of the typical Rays crowd shows up wearing a Manny Ramirez or Derek Jeter shirt. In enemy territory, even at home in Floridathat's the life of a Rays fan.

The article brings up sone fair points, but I'm going to have to agree with Joey on the fact that it sucks more for Cubs fans. I'll admit I feel little to no pity for Cubs fans, but that's really gotta suck.
And to Joey's point about living in an area without a sports team, I can echo to that. I don't even have a professional sports team (top-tier, that is) in my state. You never know how a person's fanships were/will be decided, but picking a team that appeals to you is certainly one way to do it.
MLB Post-Season Pick 'Em, LCS Edition The cute little five-game exhibition is done, and now we're into real seven-game baseball series. Not a lot of bonus action in the charts from the LDS, but you all have a big chance to turn that around with this round's bonus questions. Make your picks inside.
