Sports Bio

I like hockey, specifically the Flyers.

I like Basketball, used to root for the Knicks then this happened.

I like baseball, the Yankees of New York are my squad and I have stood by them through the "dark times" otherwise know as the 1980's.

I am new to soccer (here by refered to as football) The World Cup 2006 AD is my first football expierence but I plan on checking out the MLS season as well.

I try to snowboard but it is more like doing push-ups on the side of a mountain.

I would like to participate in a Hurling match, but I have a strong feeling it would end with my untimely demise.

I dislike the NASCAR, Indy racing, synchronized swimming, worm charming and ice dancing.

If if looks like a sport, smells like a sport....: This past week we had this little gem of post degrade into the whole "is it or isn't a sport" conversation. I freely admit I was a part of it as were one of the sites admins. I was just wondering if we could get a ruling whether or not pro wrestling/sports entertainment post we welcomed.

Legendary Wrestler linked to slaying of 97 year old man: Amateur and pro wrestling legend Verne Gagne was involved with an incident that lead to the death of 97 year old Helmut Guttmann. According to several accounts Gagne shoved Guttmann who was then hospitalized and later died. Minneapolis police are ruling Guttmann's death a homicide. Gagne's family, who say he is suffering from Alzhimer's, think any charges pressed againt Verne would be inhumane.

Tis nary a beast alive that can choke out a greased Québécois: Vaseline spoils St. Pierre's victory over Penn at UFC 94. St. Pierre's corner man clear rubs Vaseline all over George's shpulders and back, thus negating any chance Penn would have at locking in a submission hold on him.

Power Play: The Blazer score what turns out to be a crucial basket on the Celtics with an extra player on the floor. Surprisingly the Blazers employed no subterfuge and left all six players on the court to be spotted by the refs. After discovering the mistake officials still let the basket stand.

NHL Teams Return to Classic Uniforms

I hope they bring back: The Vancouver Flying V and the LA Kings old purple and gold.

No way dude, the need to bring back the Kings Black and Silver and the Canucks ice skate logo. I like the idea of the Flyers going back to the old Jerseys but I hope the black can stick around as a third uni.

Blackhawks defeat Flyers 4 to 3, win Lord Stanley's Cup

Everytime it seemed like the beginikng of a blowout, Philly came right back.

In game one Niemi shut down Philly in the third period. Philly owned the ice but Niemi hung tough (despite shite play earlier in the game) If Leighton came up with one or two big stops early on in game 1 Philly would have taken that game. Niemi came up big in the latter half of the third and Chicago won. Game two Niemi stops 15 shots in the third period to hang onto a one goal lead and take a 2-0 lead.

I am not saying Toews doesn't deserve the Conn Smyth I just think Niemi out played Leighton by make critical saves when he needed to as opposed to Leighton who got chased from the net twice in the series.

Blackhawks defeat Flyers 4 to 3, win Lord Stanley's Cup

I see your point about Niemi's numbers but it just seemed like when Chicago needed a big stop he came up whereas Leighton was so easily flustered he basically cost Philly the series.

Blackhawks defeat Flyers 4 to 3, win Lord Stanley's Cup

Hats off to the Hawks, they had a hell of a playoffs. Not trying to take anything away from Toews but Niemi was the difference maker in the finals. He may have let up a softie here and there but he didn't get as rattled as Leighton and was able to bounce right back.

On a complete side note, why is Toews pronounced Taves?

Too many men, too few goals sinks Bruins (The Sequel)

I have to admit I was a doubting Thomas especially after going down 3-0 before the game was 15 minutes old. Coming back from a 3 goal deficit would take true grit luckily Philly was chock full of that tonight.

A-Rod Crosses Mound, Makes Pitcher Cross

shot a puck into the opposition's net before a game, he'd be subject to the same treatment as any rookie.

I've been a huge hockey fan for over 14 years now and have never heard about this faux pas before. I know it is considered bad form to shoot the puck after a whistle but I had no idea there was any pre-game etiquette. Sorry for the derail.

McGwire Admits Using Steroids

Ken Griffey Jr. isn't exactly huge and he hit over 600 homeruns. Big build does not equal more homeruns. IMHO having fluid batting mechanics and a good eye are more of an asset to hitting homeruns than pure muscle mass is.

ESPN's Steve Phillips caught in affair with 22-year-old production assistant

And given the context (he destroyed his marriage to have sex with her), I think her looks, or lack therof, are fair game.

Wouldn't Phillips wife's looks also be fair game? What if you think Mrs. Phillips is uglier than Brooke Hundley, can we all just agree that Mr. Phillips made a good choice?

SportsFilter: The Wednesday Huddle

I'm in the middle of writing the trading card set for "The Tudors" and I'm a little pressed for time.

Seriously? That's freaking awesome. Will it include Yorks and Lancasters as well considering there were only 5 Tudor monarchs (6 if you included Jane Gray's 10 day reign) I was always a big fan of Bloody Mary's work. Sorry for the non-sports related geek-out.
