That story is dated 12-18-05 and has the wrong(i think) draft order.

1. Houston - Reggie Bush if he comes out, trade down if he doesn't
2. New Orleans - A new stadium if there is one available, Matt Leinart if not.
3. Tennessee - Trade Down or Jimmy Williams CB Va Tech
4. New York Jets - AJ Hawk LB Ohio State
5. Green Bay - D'Brickashaw Ferguson OT UVa Got to protect whomever the new QB is.
6/7. Oakland - Vince Young, QB Texas. I don't care what the question is, Kerry Collins isn't the answer.
6/7. SF - DeAngelo Williams, RB Memphis. It would go a long way toward keeping Alex Smith from getting KILLED.
8. Buffalo - Shoot the whole team and start over. Other than that, Best Available, who would be Mario Williams, DE NC State
9. Detroit - They need a QB, but alas...so how about Haloti Ngata, DT Oregon?
10. Arizona - They need a QB, but alas... so how about DeMeco Ryans, LB Bama?

They even have a note on the page:

*The order of this NFL mock draft is based on the records of all teams following week 14 of the NFL season

Also, a whole bunch of teams finished 4-12 so you'd have to break out head-to-heads and point differentials.

From what I know about the Lion's orginization, they will pick Steve Smith, WR, USC, because Millen has heard that Steve Smith is a pretty good NFL receiver!

That looks like the right order, despite the date.

Houston needs Ferguson. Saints need a QB. I think there will be some moving around of picks this year.

Howsabout that, the order was right in mid-December. I guess the last couple of regular season games were pointless for everybody, not just the playoff teams.

That site has Vince going 3rd, if he opts for the Draft I don't think he'll go third more like second. Vince showed last night why he should go at the very least second. He'd be stupid no to come out this year.

This guy is a fanboy like any of us. His bio seem to indicate that his cred comes from being quoted in the Washington Times. Never heard of him. Whatever. When Kiper's stuff is available (and not ony for paying people) then I might care.

I HIGHLY doubt the Steelers will draft a RB this year, like this guy claims.

Well, despite the fact that Bush will be playing for a Texa(n)s team, he will be getting a beating every week from other teams, including the other Texas team, the Cowboys. Let us talk about the #2 pick. That will be Saints QB Matt Leinart. Lat night's game will be like half of Leinart's season. However, there will be a bright side. His coach will be Dom Capers, yes Capers. Also he will be the L.A. Saints QB, and will be playing where he has always played, the Coliseum. There will be fan support. Getting #2 (and Leinart) and firing Haslett (and hiring Capers) are all part of a larger plan to relocate the Saints to Los Angeles. Mark my words. Finally, I believe that there will be more USC players declaring for the draft and going in the first round. Vince Young, V.Y., will also declare for the draft. He will go third to Tennessee as a replacement for McNair, unless TEN trades down. However, that is unlikely. IF they trade down, and I am capitalizing it because it is most unlikely, a team currently at #15-25 will liekly get him. But once again, the Titans management are pretty foolish, to keep confused Fisher onboard and throw the valuable McNair overboard, but they are smart enought o know that if you are V.Y. the National Champ, you'd better draft him.

I doubt it very much that Bush will go to the Texans, I'ld be very surprised if they don't take Young with the first pick. Then the Texans will just trade picks for an o-line.

How would a rookie runningback keep Alex Smith from getting killed. That's been Barlows problem since day one (picking up the blitz) SF should pick up Mario Williams if available. Defense wins chapionships. Besides, Gore and Hicks are a good set of backs. They just need seasoning and the line to gain some experience.

Remember guys VY is a Houston kid. I honestly don't see much if any drop in the caliber of him and Bush. After he won the National Championship last night for the 'horns the Texans will take him and the fans will love it.

VY is a raw talent. As exciting as his perfomance has been, there alot of mechanical flaws to his game that will be exposed at the next level. Teams that are in the hunt win with a pocket passer (Manning, Brady, Palmer). One more year would do him well. Leinert is still a better pick for any of the teams picking early in the draft. Bush goes to Houston. Leinert goes to New Orleans. If VY comes out, he'll end up in Tennessee or Oakland. I see him riding the pine for while (ala McNair).

Agreed. Take a good look at that throwing motion before you sign him to a big contract (then again, it's the NFL, what does a contract matter?).

Exactly...Throwing at the pro level isnt something just can just be easliy taught. He also has bad footwork and a huge problem checking down. I dont see him running past or over pro level linemen, backers or even DBs. He can be a great player some day if the proper approach is taken toward his development.

Bush to Houston. Young to Saints, because of proximity to Texas, Young will sell tickets. Titans will take Ferguson, Leinhart, Cutler, or as I suspect, trade down. The Jets have the worst GM in football, and will take the wrong player. They need an OT in the worst way, and if they choose one, it willnot be the right one. Green Bay takes Williams. Oakland takes Cutler or Leinhart, whoever is still available

I take back what I said. VY goes #1 to HOU. Leinart still goes to NO/L.A. #3 is Reggie Bush, who goes to TEN or the new owner of that pick. However, it now seems like VY is declaring, which makes me doubt that Reggie will declare. However, odds are he still will declare. He will SURELY regret not declaring if he stays, as does Leinart after getting torched.

I like that theory about about the L.A. Saints...it sounds very devious and possible in an Irsay-ish way; I wonder if they'll pack up in the middle of the night and move down I-10 (after it gets rebuilt of course).

DeAngelo in S.F....I like, I like. I had not thought of that. I predict he will be big in the NFL. While Bush gets all of the attention, he will languish on lousy teams, with his numbers to comfort him, á la Barry Sanders. DeAngelo, however, may the cornerstone of a championship squad.

If he has a chance to go #3 this year or #1 next year, it's in his best (financial) interest to wait one more year.

Sure, he could get injured playing one more year of college ball, but then what's to say he couldn't get injured playing pick-up basketball before the draft.

I think Pittsburgh better draft a RB if Bettis does retire, because Staley has been injured the last 2 seasons, and he's just not the power type of back who'll run between the tackles on every run play like the Steelers traditionally like. Also, I like the idea of Houston drafting Vince Young #1 because of this: Their O-line simply cannot protect their QB, so why not draft a running QB who can get out of trouble and run for some yards when the pocket breaks down, which for HOU, is just about everytime they pass. They need playmakers NOW, and they also need something that will get butts in seats, and it'll be a PR hit.

Just to clarify: the complete draft order won't be determined until the Super Bowl is over (footnotes in those links speak to that point). The 12 teams in the playoffs won't know which pick they'll have until the outcome of whichever round of the playoffs they lose in.

Related to the chart in this link, does anyone have a link to previous years strength of schedule for each team? I think it would be interesting to compare strengths of schedule relative to the team's final standing.

Sorry, the Bears don't need a Safety, they need a Tight End like the Cardinals need a running game (okay, maybe not that bad). This link from above nails it right on the head but if the site's assessment of the draft is correct, the Bears might risk waiting until the second round before drafting a TE; then they'd take an O-lineman, OLB, or WR with the 1st-round pick. Obviously we won't know until April, though.

Is there that much disparity between what the #1 and #3 get? What if he falls in the draft. I think Leinart would have been the first pick last year had he come out, probably not this year though.

leinart almost defintely would have been first pick last year. but he wanted another championship. oops. there is a pretty large financial difference between #1 and #3 (and the difference in signing bonus is pretty huge). also, to the one who said:

was it Wannstadt that traded the Eagles their 2nd round pick (which ended up being the 35th or so pick in the draft) for A.J. Feeley? What a brutal trade for the Dolphins. We'll see how Reggie Brown plays out but I prefer him heavily to Feeley. I actually think Brown may be a very solid #2, potential #1 receiver.

My boss, who is a USC grad, made an interesting point. What if, however very unlikely, Reggie decides to stay one more year. Maybe he feels like he owes to the fans and school after that bonehead lateral in the 1st quarter. As was the case with Leinert, maybe a booster would get Reggie a Lloyds of London policy to entice him to come back for one more year. Wouldn't that screw up everyone's draft prognostications?

The only thing that is going to save Alex Smith's ass is kevlar. The Niners need an O-line to save Alex from traction. A better offense will also keep the defense healthy.

As far as I know, it would not be a violation because the player only benefits if his collegiate career is prematurely ended due to injury. I must admit I'm going by what my boss said and he is a pretty intelligent individual who doesn't typically make off the cuff remarks. I will certainly look further into this and get back to you.

Cool, Will. My thinking is that the NCAA are such hardliners on spending money for the benefit of a 'student-athlete' and that the cost of this policy would surely be more than the handful of long distance phone calls or meals at Denny's that have brought schools big rips in past years that it can't possibly slip through on the type of technicality your boss gave. I could, of course, be wrong. But rarely.
