Chris Simon cheap shot (via YouTube). The clothesline with the stick to Hollweg's face put the Rangers on the PP, allowing them to capitalize and score the GW goal. There has been talk on sports radio this morning that they would like to see Simon suspended into next year.

Mystique of Original 6 Fading. This story is slanted due to fact it only speaks of the attendance figures of Blackhawk games against Original teams. I can only think that is becasue Wirtz has absolutely ruined this team during his ownership and could care less about putting a quality product on the ice. Hawks attendance sucks regardless of who their opponent is. I am wondering if this is a league wide phenomenom or simply Hawks fans not showing up? Do the fans in the other 5 Original cities show up in droves? I think maybe this author is generalizing because of the plight of Chicago's hockey team but I can't speak for the other cities.

From National Hero to draft dodger. I just thought this tidbit was interesting. I didn't realize Vlade was still a Serb citizen.

More Bad Noose for Pro Golf Although the story appeared to be dying down after the Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman apologized to Tiger Woods for her "lynch him" remark, Golfweek has just thrown gas on the fire with its cover story and illustration.

First, let me say that I am not excusing what Tilghman said, but perhaps the use of the word "lynch" and all its connotations are truly regional. As Joey said, where he came from the term was exclusive to the historical context. Growing up in the Midwest, we used the word to reference any kind of rumble, mob action, etc. Hell, there was a group of morons in my high school that called themselves the Lynchmob. Now I went to a very racially and ethnically diverse school and no one ever though twice about it. They were all bark and no bite. Honestly, when the story first broke and I heard the audio clip, I thought "big deal". It took a few minutes for the severity of the comment to sink in. I am not a mind reader nor do I personally know Ms. Tilghman, but I truly do not believe there was malice in her comment and she didn't realize what she had said at the time. I find the cover far more egregious and flamatory than anything Tilghman said.
Patriots to Honor Booed Teenager Patriots owner Robert Kraft extended an invitation to Anna Grant and her parents to be on the field during the coin flip at this weekend's playoff game against the San Diego Chargers. The 14-year-old girl was booed after being introduced as her age-group champion of the Punt-Pass-Kick competition before the 4th quarter of the Colts-Chargers game because she was wearing a Patriots jersey.

Mark Cuban Applies to Buy Chicago Cubs Add internet billionaire and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban to the list of potential Chicago Cubs buyers.

I agree with those who say Cuban irritates them. But, his savvy, passion, and willingness to spend a shit load of dough, appeal to the side of me who would love to see the Cubs finally contend for the WS. Hopefully, Cuban would be smart enough not to piss off and alienate the umpiring crew each and every series. Oh well, it's all for nought. Selig will never let Cuban into the MLB owners club and Reinsdorf, Selig's buddy, hates Cuban, too.
Blackhawks win lottery. Chicago won the NHL draft lottery Tuesday, giving the Blackhawks a reason to celebrate after missing the playoffs for the eighth time in nine seasons. The Blackhawks, who will pick first in the June draft, had the fifth worst record and only an 8.1 percent chance to come out on top in the lottery.

Too bad the Hawks can't draft a new owner. My frustration and contempt for the Blaakhawks organization has trickled down to the entire league. For the first time that I can remember I am completely apathetic towards the NHL and it's just killing me. I'm unsure if I will even tune into the playoffs. Sorry. Self pity party has ceased. Carry on. On preview: what wdminott said.

Constructive Criticism "When you burn the village to save it once, people come back. When you take out part of the village, rebuild it, and then napalm it over the course of a bitterly public, year-long firefight, people leave...With all due respect to the NHL’s more fan-friendly policies, Chairman Mao seems to forget that you can’t make a Great Leap Forward when your foundation’s sagging."

As much as I hate Peyton Manning, I also don't want the Bears to win so I can come on to SpoFi and read a 1000 word comment by skydivedad. How do you propose they live it down when the current Bears have absolutely nothing in common with the '85 Bears other than they are still under the same ownership? I say again...it was 21 years ago.

Lovie Smith becomes the first black head coach ...... to make it to the title game in its 41 years. One of the most maligned 13-3 teams ever romps past the Saints 39-14 in the NFC championship game.

Fraze, I was wondering the same thing. The only thing I could think ofi s that they were playing from behind the whole game, granted not by much, and felt they had to throw the ball to climb back into it. And that was exactly what they did from two minutes left in the first half and well into the third quarter. I thought for sure once they pulled within two, the Bears were going to get a steady dose of McAllister and Bush. Guess not. (Thank god)

Actually, TBH, the Bears have been maligned by the local media in Chicago for the latter half of the season, and it certainly spread to the national media. Hell, a fair number of local sports talking heads picked the Saints. Grossman has been under a microscope all season, and only recently have the experts seem to have picked up that the defense has been playing like shit. It has been at times painful to watch the media skewer Grossman and he certainly didn't help his situation by some of the things he said, but I firmly believe that if he stays healthy and works out his mental and physical mechanics, he could be a great quarterback. For now, I am simply basking in the glow of a serious whoopin' on the media darlings and can't wait to see Manning in the big one.
Samardzija chooses baseball. The All-American WR signed a five-year, 10.5 million dollar contract with the Chicago Cubs, thus putting an end to his storied football career. Was this the right choice? Only time will tell.

I have to agree with several other posters that the guaranteed money and less wear and tear on his body were the keys to his decision. And as a Cubs fan, my enthusiasm is somewhat tempered. I have not seem him play baseball, but from what I have heard, he doesn't really do anything special. He has a 95+ mph fastball and is developing a decent slider. That kind of sounds like most righties in the majors.
