Pittsburgh Steelers football—I have been a Steelers fan for as long as I can remember despite growing up in the Washington, DC area. My first sports memories all involve Super Bowls in the mid-70s.
Arsenal—I have played and loved soccer all my life, but have never been able to get behind any of the many American league teams that have popped up over the decades. I used to attend Washington Diplomats games as a child and one of my most memorable sporting moments was traveling to Giants stadium to see Pele play for the Cosmos. I have no real reason to support Arsenal, per se, but as I have read nearly everything Nick Hornby has written—including Fever Pitch—I feel like I have supported them for ages. The only European match I have ever attended though was a First Division match between Watford and Wolverhampton in December 2001.Sigh I miss my personalised user page on which I spent so much time. First my locker room interview goes poof and now this.

Why do you support who you do? Interesting discussion going on in an Ask MetaFilter thread.

FootballFilter 2.0 The people behind FootballFilter have re-thought the concept and came up with an aggregator format (similar to popurls.com) which "categorizes new[s] sources into things such as tabloids, broadsheets, magazines, broadcasters, international, [and] blogs." According to the developers, the idea behind the new FootballFilter is to "centralise all the best football sources into one place to save time and make the most of your time on the internet." Manchester United Complete Double The Champions League final was won on a sloppy rain-soaked pitch in Moscow when Manchester United held off 10-man Chelsea on (gag) penalties after John Terry slips taking decisive attempt.

Smell The Glove Brandon Marshall had a half-black, half-white glove stashed as part of a TD celebration / commemoration that recalled Tommie Smith and celebrated Barack Obama. Brandon Stokely ran over to him and made him put it away, fearing a 15-yard unsportsmanlike at the end of a close game. On the one hand, Brandon Marshall is no Tommie Smith. On the other hand, I can't shake off the nagging feeling (which owes more to Smith than Marshall) that it would have been a pretty cool gesture.

Mo' bugs, Mo' problemz. Just some functional and usability stuff I'm seeing as I get back into using the site.

The comment counts are still being prepared and some links on the member pages will be broken until I bring them online
So I shouldn't be concerned that when I click on "has posted 33 links" to the Lockerroom where ALL of those links are in fact FPP posts... AND I haven't created ANY those posts OR commented in ANY those threads?
Ok :)

He needs all the information in place -- like the user page with bios -- before he can redo the CSS
This is helpful. When *I* design sites, I come up with something in Photoshop and then build the CSS divs, etc to fit match the design. I find it is easier for me to move layers around, tweak things, etc, before creating the code. To each their own, *obviously*. What I am getting at is that know that makes everything else clearer...
The last I recall reading was that Kirk was going out of town, and from comments above it seems like I am not the only one who recalls things that way. I am glad to here he is still involved with the UI. The corners of my frown are starting to inch upwards like the Grinch.

BoKnows: As far as the wiki is concerned, knock yourself out. But that does bring up another sore subject with me. rcade, why are you avoiding the wiki? Gary (and others) have asked about including it as part of the site (with a little navigation love) and it seems to fall on deaf ears.
Also, not one mention about the UI. Has kirk jumped ship or is he still unavailable to help? You mention all of the features, old and new, but nothing about how the site looks. I am hesitant to refer to the site as ugly knowing you are cribbing from Workbench, and I don't want to insult that site. But when COMPARED to how the old SpoFi looked the new look is hideous and awkward to negotiate.
rcade also skips over my repeated questions about returning old threads, especially the lockerroom interviews. why? if they won't be back, then say so. I miss them, but I thought it was mentioned in previous threads that one of the benefits of this move was the return of the MIAs.
I am reading the RSS feeds, but I miss the commentary and camaraderie. I truly hope that something will be done soon.
Thanks for the opportunity to vent. Back to lurking.
The Life And Death Of The English Football Song: Popmatters explores, with examples, the history of the terrace chant, its sporadic forays into the recorded music world and the popular music charts, and its occasional (sometimes even successful) crossing into American culture, providing (among other high and low lights) the darkest moment in Walter Payton's storied career.

Curious Thought about NFL Sundays Question for the elders of SF. Has the site ever considered posting a thread for live discussion on Sundays during the NFL season?

well, chatting in the locker room means constantly hitting reload and making it difficult to keep up in "real time." I am not sure how rcade has the server set up. Does the site update ASAP?
The campfire and the IRC channel are on servers other than SpoFi which may be a good thing.
*shrug*
Anyone is welcome to do what they want, but campfire and IRC are set up for real-time chat.

I was on the campfire chat site today and it was the first time anyone had been in the NFL "room" since the Super Bowl. I was also idling on #sportsfilter on the IRC channel.
For information on the various chat sites, check the much-ignored (especially by rcade) wiki (entry on chat).
A-Rod's homer in ninth passes instant replay test It almost seems fitting. The first use of instant replay in Major League Baseball was to confirm a long home run hit by Alex Rodriguez - the man who one day could hold the all-time home run record and who knows a thing or two about being surrounded by controversy.

Bengals Resign Troubled Receiver Chris Henry With their two Pro Bowl receivers hurt, the Cincinnati Bengals brought back troubled receiver Chris Henry on Tuesday, a move that their coach had emphatically ruled out only a month earlier as inappropriate. The signing helps the team but raises questions about its commitment to holding players accountable for their actions.
