Hidden: Kornheiser post: Tired of my comments be deleted because one of the admins don't agree with my opinion.

posted by Nakeman to editorial policy at 07:37 PM - 109 comments

Gonna need a little more than that to discuss it. I'm tired of them only having my favorite juice at Shaw's when I don't need it.

posted by yerfatma at 07:42 PM on February 25, 2008

Had some posts deleted from admin and let it go, and caulked it up to difference of opinion. I posted a comments about the relevence of Kornheiser post, and was deleted because I thought poster was putting words into Kornheiser mouth. If admins can't take some criticism once in a while. I'd say they have no right to criticise others on this sight. They need to get off high horse and decide if they are above criticism and, if they are, to state so and we as a group will give them a free pass.

I posted a comments about the relevence of Kornheiser post, and was deleted because I thought poster was putting words into Kornheiser mouth. 22 comments into the thread, after I said for bender, or anyone else to take complaints to the locker room you made another comment regarding the validity of the link. If your opinion is that this post shouldn't be here, which you've already stated, take it to the locker room. Did you miss my comment? Ignore it? At the top of the locker room it says: The Locker Room is an area to discuss topics specifically about the site: bugs, the quality of front page links, feature suggestions, and fantasy leagues our members participate in. On the sportsfilter wiki we have this: What is the locker room? The Locker Room is an area to discuss topics specifically about the site: bugs, the quality of front page links, feature suggestions, fantasy leagues, meet-ups, etc. The locker room is more casual than the front page of SportsFilter, and a good place to learn more about the site as well as become more active in the community. Does that make it clearer? It had nothing to do with your opinion.

Mainly due to the rant about having to defend yourself on the post. And your right, it would have been a good idea not to post in such a negative light. On that, we agree.

What in hell are you taking about? State what you mean and stop talking in riddles. Seriously? The thread was a riddle to start with. I didn't read any of your deleted posts, so I didn't know what you were referring to. My guess is, niether did yerfatma. His post was based on the thread topic only, not your explanation that followed. Spell check is great, the "preview" option is great too. But ultimately, read what you post and decide if it's worth it. If it's personal, take it to email. If it's a complaint, bring it to the locker room. But don't get all pissy when your posts are deleted if you are not following the guidelines. Some things are better left unsaid.

This is a community forum Nakeman, if you post a comment you are addressing everyone. You may be directing your point to a specific person but anyone who is a member has the option and right to respond. You can't have a private conversation in public. If you really don't want responses from the Crescendo of Voices, take it to email.

If I had the power I would have deleted the post straight away after reading and email reason why. 2.) I didn't see the comment about going to the locker room. I read the article and went straight to posing. After deleting, why didn't JG email me and explain reason why. I've email admin in past and no response, so why should I do it now.

State what you mean and stop talking in riddles. A woman lives on the tenth floor of an apartment building. Every morning she takes the elevator all the way down, and goes to work. In the evening, she gets into the elevator, and, if there is someone else in it she goes back to her floor directly. Otherwise, she goes to the seventh floor and walks up three flights of stairs to her apartment. Why?

posted by YukonGold at 08:00 AM on February 26, 2008

That's your explaination? Well, I don't accept it. Yes, that's my explanation in black and white in three different places. You don't have to accept it. But I would delete that comment again without a second thought. Again, 22 comments into a post, with others having a discussion, your comment was noise. When I said to take it to the locker room I was referring to comments on the quality of the link. Not about your comment deletion. I didn't see the comment about going to the locker room. I read the article and went straight to posing. After deleting, why didn't JG email me and explain reason why. If I emailed everyone that had a comment deleted I'd never leave the computer some days. Discussing the quality of links is suppose to be done in the locker room and is on the wiki and on top of the locker room. You either ignored that or missed it. I also wrote in the thread that discussion about the link should go to the locker room. 10 minutes later you wrote 2 sentences about how the link shouldn't be there. If you want to ignore the guidelines, and post without reading the conversation, that's on you. I'm not going to email you. JG was pissed because everybody didn't join in to criticise Kornheiser and praise his post. 1. It wasn't a post to criticize Kornheiser. You're assuming I don't like the guy. You're wrong. 2. I've been here many years and I've posted over 350 links. My skin is not that thin. I post very few links where someone doesn't complain about the source, or the topic, or the writing. Doesn't bother me. I've email admin in past and no response, so why should I do it now. You and I have emailed several times. You know where to reach me. I find it ironic that this is your 3rd or 4th account and I unbanned this account not too long ago despite your constant complaining and yet I can't accept criticism. For what it's worth, I've had several email discussions with members over deleted links and it's always gone well. It doesn't mean they agree with me, but the discussion always ends on a high note. But none of them write me with "G was pissed because everybody didn't join in to criticise Kornheiser and praise his post". They actually discuss the topic without getting personal. You have never agreed with the way sportsfilter is run. That's your right. But with your tone I'm pretty much through with trying to discuss anything with you. I would have welcomed a discussion on the quality of the link. But you've made it obvious you'd rather discuss me and your deleted comment, not the link.

They need to get off high horse and decide if they are above criticism and, if they are, to state so and we as a group will give them a free pass. I hope you sat in front of a mirror when you typed that. You are one of the most oversensitive people on this site. You make ignorant statements with no proof, and then when others (rightly) call you on your buffoonery, you get all shitty. Everybody here gets in the occasional scrap, but most handle it much better than you do. If I had the power I would have deleted the post straight away after reading and email reason why. Thank God you don't have the power. If the content on this site depended on you, this site would suck the pipe big time. I think the admins here do a fantastic job of keeping track of over 16,000 members, and hundreds of posts and comments a day. You obviously don't, which raises the question: if you're so friggin' unhappy here, why not just leave?

Gary had the answer already! She's too short to punch the button for floor 10. She can only reach up to the button for 7. But if someone else is in the elevator, she can ask them to punch 10 for her. Of course in the morning it doesn't matter, as the button for ground is the lowest one. Now then. How many roads must a man walk down, before you can call him a man?

I think perhaps part of the problem here is that we aren't aware of just how much filtering the mods do. They do it, where they do it, quietly and without fuss and a lot of public pronouncements. While I think this is the way to go, I can also see some people coming to the (erroneous) conclusion that their comments are the only ones being deleted and everyone else gets to let fly.

If everyone who used email to do the electronic equivalent of yelling, "Oh...oh yeah? Well...well...well...fuck you!!! from the safety of his big brother's speeding car That brings me back to a time when I worked at a factory, and every so often had to go on the roof to patch leaks. A bridge ran over the factory, and when a nearby school would let out, a few kids would stand up on the bridge, yell all kinds of shit at me, throw stuff, etc. They thought they were safe way up on the bridge, untouchable, and could do or say anything they wanted. One day after they started walking away, I went down the ladder, jumped in a vehicle with a co-worker (who resembled Lawrence Taylor) and we drove up and found the kids. Scared the living fuck out them. Individuals who posture like tough guys over the internet bring me back to that memory for some reason.
