NHL Playoffs Pick'em Final Round: Going into the final series, DrJohnEvans continues to lead despite having worse (marginally) picks than second place ajaffe (those stray game picks help the Dr.) Make your picks for the final round, CAR vs EDM, here. Also, for bonus kudos (but no points), pick the Conn Smythe winner.

I just now updated the leaderboard. I haven't been able to keep it 100% up to date because of a new job and other commitments, but everything should be good. Tell me if you notice errors. Anyway, EDM in 6. MVP: Roloson!

Canes in 7 Brindy for the Conn Smythe. Alice Cooper backs me up. Eff you.

Hmmmm....gotta take EDM in 6. Don't want to, but I just gotta. MVP? Gotta go with Pronger.

Hurricanes in 5 Brindy for the Conn Smythe. Hell yeah. But just to be different, Cam Ward. Oh, in case you missed it mkn, I don't go by njsk8r20 anymore. I don't care if you keep that screenname on your leaderboard. Just making sure you know who's picks these are.

...I don't go by njsk8r20 anymore. Whatever, prima donna. Next thing you know, you'll have your own symbol! Edmonton in 7 with a dash of double OT, baby. Pronger for Conn Smythe.

From 23rd to 14th in one round...I'm sooo gonna win this thing! Actually, at this point, I'm guessing it's mathematically impossible for me to make up that much ground, but I'm staying positive! Carolina in 6 Brind'Amour for the Conn Smythe

I missed a round but I'll still give you my picks. Edmonton in 6 Pronger for Conn Smythe

ehhhhhhhhh. Canes in 7. Cam Ward gets the Smythe. I hope I'm wrong. (I often am.)

Edmonton in 6 - Conn Smythe - Roloson. Has to be. (I think Carolina is the better team. But I think that everyone Edmonton has played thus far has been a better team. Better team apparently means Edmonton victory.) Small bone to pick with the structure of the tournament. You should not receive credit for picking the right number of games the series goes if you incorectly pick who's going to win the series itself. No credit!

posted by WeedyMcSmokey at 11:15 AM on June 02, 2006

I'll go ahead and disagree weedy. You have a 50% chance to get the team right but only 25% to get the number of games right. You definitely should get something for the games regardless of if you got the team right. I would rather you get a bonus point for getting both right. No, its not that big a deal, but maybe something to think about for the next pickem.

Edmonton in 7 (OT!) Conn Smythe - Ryan Smyth

posted by grum@work at 12:14 PM on June 02, 2006

Well Frisby/Sk8er - I just think that if you actually picked Anaheim in 6 games and it was Edmonton in 6 games, you really are guessing that the Ducks go 4-2. In fact they go 2-4 - you're not just wrong - you're REALLY wrong - but you still get credit for getting the number of games right? Dude, you got it all wrong!! No Credit!! I always treat my picks and games as one and the same. If I say Ottawa will beat Buffalo in five, and Buffalo beats Ottwa in five - I wasn't 50% right on my call. I totally blew the call. You're right - not a big deal. Just a peeve.

I agree with Weedy on this one. I have picked against Carolina for the first three rounds, and that's not about to stop. Edmonton in 6. Smythe: Horcoff. I just can't get behind the Hurricanes as valid representatives of the "new NHL". Yes, they're geared for offense, which is nice, but they're an assortment of purchased semi-loser veterans, with one or two young guys thrown in for good measure. They feel more like the 2004 Rangers to me. Except that they're winning, of course.

Wings Edmonton in 6. MYP=Roloson

posted by Ying Yang Mafia at 02:06 PM on June 02, 2006

I figured of doing it like that because it equalizes the ranks a bit and adds more parity. If you want, though, you can always change the sort order: By number of correct picks and by the number of correct picks AND games

posted by mkn at 02:27 PM on June 02, 2006

When you put it like that Mr. McSmokey, you make a very compelling argument. However, this is sportsfilter, so I can't change my mind, even if I want to. The only other point I can make is competition. Allowing credit for the number of games despite picking the winner wrong allows for a closer race. I mean show some sportsmanship fer crisakes.

Edmonton in 4. MVP: Roloson

posted by 86 at 03:00 PM on June 02, 2006

Ah, Friz - like I said - it's not keeping me up at night. I never win these things anyway. In other news - 86?!?! - Edmonton in FOUR!?!? Geez - that'd be okay by me, but I don't think the Hurricanes are going to miss the bus four times in a row.

posted by WeedyMcSmokey at 03:07 PM on June 02, 2006

Horcoff! Horcoff! Horcoff! I'm tired of goaltenders winning the Smythe (almost) all the time. Yes, they make the most important single contribution. That's part of their job.

posted by qbert72 at 03:12 PM on June 02, 2006

Weedy, I don't think I've picked them to win a series yet. And since they keep proving me wrong I've decided they deserve all of my confidence.

posted by 86 at 03:19 PM on June 02, 2006

The funny thing is sorted by the other two criteria mkn posted I rank even higher than the default. The hilarious thing is that I'm still in the top six period, though at least Melrose has passed me on points. Go for broke: HUR, 5, Brind'amour, Oilers finally crash back to earth after playing over their heads for three straight round.

Don't even try to blow me off like that Weedy. I'm not sleeping untill I convince you that DrJohnEvans is using PEDs.

MVP Staal. Nobody's picked him? 15 game point streak and all? He kind of disappeared in the last two games of the Buffalo series. I remember hearing the broadcasters talk about it as well.
