Madden Jinx? Shaun Alexander rushed for 187 yards through three games, which is less than a thousand projected yards throughout the entire season (997 to be exact). Not to mention he was on pace for only eleven rushing touchdowns. Terrible numbers for a guy who rushed for 1880 last year and had 27 rushing tds.

Ha....check out the ESPN poll on the front page also. Majority of people who participated in the poll says they believe in it or do now anyways....except washington state. Maybe there isn't such thing as a curse or jinx, but I don't want any of my players on my team to be on madden next year...hope John Madden never appears on his own cover again....who knows what might happen to him...maybe thats why he rides a bus everywhere...hmmm

Did he even play in the second half?

Well, you have to realize that he played against the best defensive unit in the NFL this week... the mighty G Men. ; ) Really though, the massacre on the Giants could have some influence on his yardage. If the game was competive throughout, he probably would have had many more yards. Although, its getting increasingly harder to keep overlooking the "Madden Jinx".

I don't think Alexander's numbers were anything close to "horrible" thus far. 3 games at the beginning of the season is too small a sample size to really have much meaning. But then there's this: MVP Alexander out indefinitely with cracked bone in foot. There's your Madden jinx.

But then there's this: MVP Alexander out indefinitely with cracked bone in foot. There's your Madden jinx. I'm new here, but why would mike give another link to another website giving the same report as the topic's link posted for this discussion? Alexander's numbers weren't horrible, but they won't be relatively close to what they where at the pace he is at for 2006, especially with the newly acquired injury he has. An injury in the foot seems like it could be a lingering injury on a football player that relies on using his feet to plant to make cuts and picking up that yard on 3rd and 1! Safe to say, trade him if you got him fantasy players. We'll have to see in a few weeks.

I'm superstitious so I believe in this crap I admit. I wonder if players may graciously decline the opportunity to be on the Madden cover. I guess if you want rock solid proof, someone indestructible like Peyton Manning has to be on the cover.

He probably didn't read the link or missed the part about Alexander having a cracked foot. Well, you have to realize that he played against the best defensive unit in the NFL this week... the mighty G Men. ; ) That doesn't explain how he had only 50 some yards and no touchdowns against the Lions defense.

Does the jinx extend to the Chad Johnson vs Daunte Culpepper commercial? Culpepper has been dreadful, so I am just waiting for Johnson to slip on a banana peel in the endzone or something...

Umm, what jinx? Ray Lewis did fine. Eddie George did fine.

maybe its an ego thing? Dude sees his mug on a vidoe game that millions of people play a day....you do the math maybe all the praises that peopel sang to him finlally got to his head. Of course, it might be he's just having a rough start.

outsidehitter7, you're right on point. I agree that it may very well be an ego thing but the Madden curse strikes again! Ray Lewis did fine. Eddie George did fine Sorry blarp, not even close. Both guys had a sub-par season after their Madden cover. Ray Lewis had that shoulder injury and Eddie George was never the same player again. It's more than a coincidence that the very same athletes that grace the cover of Madden football end up in front of their teams' trainer with some kind of injury. I can't wait to see who's next years victim.

I believe Alanis Morisette would say "it's like rain on your wedding day"

I'd be okay with Eli Manning on next year's cover.

I wonder if players may graciously decline the opportunity to be on the Madden cover. Are you telling me that the players on the cover have no control over this and are not compensated financially for this 'opportunity'? It is just another endorsement deal, is it not?

I believe Alanis Morisette That sounds like a problem.... :) BTW: It's not 'ironic' just unfortunate.... Just like the 'Madden' curse... It's just 'coincidence' not a curse...

That doesn't explain how he had only 50 some yards and no touchdowns against the Lions defense. Wow... you couldn't detect my sarcasm in that sentence?? I even put in a guy winking to show it you dumb shit. Then I even said that it could be a real jinx- so before you try to prove me wrong, please note that I was merely kidding- so don't shit on yourself trying to argue with me. Besides, its only 3 weeks into the season- plenty of time left for improvment- dont you think?

I'd be okay with Eli Manning on next year's cover. That's a stretch after this. I don't remember EA putting QB's of 8-8 teams on the cover much. btw chico, this is the second thread where you played the Eli card in 24 hours. Are we gonna have to have a good old fashioned Manning Family dustup here soon?

Was it Madden or was it this?

Of course, it might be he's just having a rough start. I think this is more true then people imagine. The guy is at the top of his game, sets a single season record for TD's, ends up on the cover of Madden and decides he only needs to work out 5 days a week instead of 6, loses some endurance and ultimately pays the price. Or the curse could be due to the fact that you don't make the cover unless you have a career year, which means playing 16 games, which means more wear and tear on the body, which leads to injuries. We need some scientists to do a study.

Was it Madden or was it this? Ouch. That is one of the worst injuries I've seen in a while.

YukonGold, I make no excuse for, and feel no need to provide further explanation regarding, my opinions regard the spoiled Baby Manning. Draft Day tantrums go over very poorly in my house, and for Baby to get back into my good books, he would have to perform some act of public contrition, the magnitude of which is clearly far beyond his humility level. So tell it to Johnny: I'm putting Baby in the corner.

BornIcon - What, exactly, does the "Madden jinx" do? Apparently, it's not a season-ending injury, because Eddie George was fine. But he was "never the same player again". That's what the "Madden jinx" does? Or, maybe, the Madden jinx is a complete coincidence. People are dying for there to be some connection. There isn't one that I can see. There's a correlation based on a very small sample (and the correlation is debatable because people keep changing the meaning of the "jinx"). And, as we all know, causation does not equal correlation. For you to say that I'm "not even close" is way off base.

i declare no more madden games to be made shit madden is making money off these games
