49ers Win!!!: San Francisco's "victory" over the Oakland Raiders on Friday, in a coin toss to determine the sixth and seventh overall choices in the draft, still felt pretty important to 49ers officials.

I think it is about time the 49ers won something.

It'll be big allright come draft day...when San Francisco takes AJ Hawk off the board, leaving Oakland w/o that linebacker they need...

congrats frisco; anytime the raiders lose, I'm happy!!!!

posted by hawkfan at 07:14 PM on February 24, 2006

hey Bsquared you have a point there, however Oakland needs a lot more than a linebacker, like maybe a reliable QB.

I'm in agreement with you, hawkfan except that Frisco is in our division too so I can't be too happy. I believe that the raiders could use a coach that the team will support.

Go Houston Im a Texans fan but all my friends (except 2 49ers and Vikings) are Raiders fan so im happy Oakland lost

GO FRISCO!!!! Im a San Fran Fan who is born and raised all 16 years of his life in upstate NY, so ya know its hard to support the team really well, and its really been hard lately. Im glad they won, even though really since they get a higher draft pick its like they lost a game but they won by getting a higher pick, so really its kinda like they lost still, but won from the loss........ yeah, go head and think about that one

Well, after looking at this scouting review, it looks like Hawk's going to the Raiders, and San Fran is picking up a DT named Ngata out of Oregon. You'd think Oakland would take a look at that QB out of Vandy, Jay Cutler. But I guess my Lions are projected to pick up Cutler, which I think is stupid. We really need to concentrate on shoring up our O-line. OT Winston Justice from USC would be decent, or even Max Jean-Gilles out of Georgia. I guess he can go as either an OT or OG.

well the point is the niners still gonna suck

That's right chemwizbsquared...Hawk is a huge pick at number six for the 49ers, who need help everywhere...although it would've been nice for them to get in the top 3 or 4 so they could've taken D'Brickshaw Ferguson on the O-line, but Hawk is a nice consolation prize...But still, for a hardcore Niner fan, this is the best win the Niners have put up in a while...

wake me up niners won what? never mind don't wake me up i'm in a state of nirvana. yeah i know it's just a coin flip....but baby steps. soon in about 15- 20 years we will back to the glory days..

We Cowboy fans are sick and tired of the 'Niners winning all the time. We even welcome Pittsburgh to the 5-win Supper Dish (maybe the term is Supper Bowl or Souper Bowl, oh heck, they made it anyway) threshold.

Well, after looking at this scouting review, it looks like Hawk's going to the Raiders, and San Fran is picking up a DT named Ngata out of Oregon. Why in the world would the 49ers pick up a defensive tackle with the first pick? They are going into a 3/4 gradually, and you got BY as one of your linemen. I honestly believe he is the best lineman in the game right now. He can take just about any guy under his wing and turn em into something good enough for now. Hawk would be a good pick. Julian Peterson just can't stay healthy long enough, and when he is, you can tell he isn't the same player as he was a few years ago, before the achilles or acl or whatever he did. Derek Smith is what's holding those linebackers together. Or maybe they should pick up a corner to help out with their pass stop. Tony Parrish was a big hit, but he should be healthy next year, so Hawk is the legitimate choice on D. But, then again, maybe D'Brickashaw Ferguson will still be available by 6th pick, or maybe Justice...

The 49ers will probally get Hawk- theyre gettin rid of Peterson

Will this thread is one of the biggest bunches of trash I've ever seen (not based on the link but the comments associated with it). Hell the Lions would have even lost the toss....bah humbug! Or they would have won and drafted some lame NFL flop while draft picks afterword flourish.

lol...sad but true.

I honestly don't think any of the Lions picks have been complete flops. They have drafted 3 #2 or #3 wide receivers that could probably do well supporting another wide receiver who is a true #1 receiver. Oh yeah, and a QB to get them the ball wouldnt hurt... As for getting rid of Peterson, I hate to say it, but they should. Bring in another guy to help out D Smith.

I honestly don't think any of the Lions picks have been complete flops. posted by zachaweenus at 5:05 PM CST on February 25 If you mean in the last few years, I agree with you to an extent. Charles Rogers started out great, but his injuries have hampered his development (*collar bones go boing!!!). And then there's Mike Williams. Last year is a "free pass" for him because he needed to get back in to football shape and actually learn how to read the playbook. Now if either one of these two don't pick it up this season, you have to let them go. I think that Roy Williams is tremendously talented, and I love to watch him play.

Charles Rogers started out great, but his injuries have hampered his development (*collar bones go boing!!!). True word! I swear that guy could break his collorbone waving hi to someone. Some fighters are born with a glass-jaw, this guy has a glass-collorbone. I expect him to get brushed against in practice some time, just shatter into a lot of little glass pieces and be swept up off the field by the grounds crew. I think both William's are going to come along fine though. I agree with zachaweenus on that it sure would be nice to have a real QB.

True word! I swear that guy could break his collorbone waving hi to someone. They should trade him now because there is no way he will make it to the regular season with these new full contact practices. And in regards to the Lions drafting, how about Aaron Gibson over Clinton Portis?

And in regards to the Lions drafting, how about Aaron Gibson over Clinton Portis? Aaron who? Oh wait! That was the point! LOL! Just funnin' with ya. last I heard he was with the Bears, but that was a couple years ago. Probably owns a bar in bum-fuck Wisconsin (sp?) by now. this balsted site needs ta git a speel chequer on it somedazes.

This seems like a really odd way to settle this tie. Since each team finished with a 4-12 record and a stength of schedule comparison leaves them tied and a further tie breaker is necessary. A look at the final standings shows that San Francisco was 4-12 and fielded 239 points while allowing 428 points, a differential of 189 points. Oakland was 4-12 a fielded 290 poits while allowing 383 points, a differential of 93 points. Since both teams played an equally challenging schedule it looks like San Francisco was the worse team therefore being more deserving of the higher pick. The right team won the coin toss.
