Yankees Ink Pettitte To One-Year Deal One year, $16 Million, with an option for 2008. Could this mean Roger Clemens will be back in pinstripes too?

posted by dyams at 08:46 PM on December 08

i hope not. roger cheated the yanks by saying that he was going to retire. so they gave him a retirement party and gave him a car and everything. so then what does he do? he goes and sign w/ the astros. could someone please take the knife out of the yankees back? roger is a great pitcher but also a backstabber.

Tragedy strikes the University if Miami again. University of Miami defensive lineman Bryan Pata was shot and killed Tuesday night at his apartment complex, the latest shock to a Hurricanes team touched by tragedy and turmoil -- including four deaths in the last decade.

I can't believe Miami is in trouble again. This football team needs some discipline. The players are out of control. The program should be cancelled for a year or two so the players can be shown some discipline.

Chico's Bail Bonds is still ineligible apparently With Red Bull owning a team and therefore technically already avertising on their uniforms, MLS will start selling ads on the front of team jerseys.

posted by terrapin at 09:46 AM on September 30

This is not a good move because then other sports leagues will follow and then every sport will turn into a big ball of advertising and it will keep getting bigger and bigger.

Marbury vs. Madison Avenue Can Stephon Marbury's $15 sneaker revolutionize the sports-shoe business?

posted by justgary at 12:25 PM on September 02

I hate Stephon Marbury. The guy is a prima donna and a jerk. The guy can't play team ball and is on a terrible team. I can't believe anyone is buying his shoes. I know they're only $15, but if you don't like Marbury, then stand up for what you believe in no matter how small. I hate Marbury and wouldn't wear his shoes if I was paid to. And how did he get that nickname "Starbury" anyway? The guy is a bum and selfish. Some star. If you are a fan of Marbury, there's something wrong with you. I'll stay with my quality $35 shoes without some primadonna's name on it.

Young Suspended 50 games This kid has tons of talent but apparently has an anger problem. Maybe this will wake him up before he destroys his career.

posted by scottypup at 04:49 PM on May 10

I don't think the 50 games was enough. I would have been much happier if he had gotten a one-year suspension.

Vikings not passing up Culpepper trade Teams in need of quarterbacks include Miami, New Orleans, Detroit, the New York Jets, the Baltimore Ravens and the Oakland Raiders, who still have not released Kerry Collins, even if it has been reported that they have. Please not Detroit! We have Harrington!

posted by wingnut4life at 07:33 AM on March 10

Culpepper is expected to go to the Raiders but I don't think that would be a good move. Culpepper and Moss didn't get along in Minnesota and I'm sure it will be the same in oakland. Plus oakland's new head coach is an ex o-lineman which means he will probabaly want to run the ball.

MetroStars no longer. Major League Soccer has announced a 50% buyout of the MetroStars by sugar peddlers energy-drink monstrosity Red Bull. Effective immediately, there will be a new logo, team kit, and colors. Oh, they'll also now be called Red Bull New York. Here's an interview with RBNY (rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?) GM Alexi Lalas. Sports Network Soccer Editor Josh Simeone has some interesting thoughts on the transaction.

this is terrible for sports. Business's shouldn't be buying sports teams and naming them after their products. What's next? The Trojan Condoms?

Unranked Syracuse Upsets #1 UConn, 86-84 Syracuse was winning well throughout the game, they deserved this win.

I'm very suprised that 'Cuse beat Uconn. I'm very happy about it because Syracuse is my team.

North Carolina And Duke Game I saw North Carolina's freshman Tyler Hansbrough playing against Duke's Shelden Williams and all I got to say is this kid plays like a senior...What do you guys think about Tyler Hansbrough? (I say first round, top 10 pick next year)

posted by CoolAsFawk at 08:05 PM on March 06

UNC played great ball against Duke. They totally shut Redick down. I'm very happy that UNC beat Duke because I HATE DUKE (and JJ).

The End of an Era(?) Jason Gurney of lowpost.net charts the progression of Shaquille O'Neal's career. And comes to the conclusion that "... we're very close to having zero superstar centers left in the league."

Speed and 3 point shooting will beat height anyday Maybe in college ball, but in the nba, size will always dominate.

MLB takes a step toward bringing inner-city youths back to baseball The Urban Youth Academy has opened in Compton. "Make no mistake about it we lost a generation of inner-city players along the way," (Joe) Morgan said. "I think that starting today, with the opening of this field, we will stop the erosion of inner-city players."

posted by BullpenPro at 02:07 PM on March 01

This is a good move by MLB. I agree with chicobangs that they should've done this before. There are only about 9% of players in the league that are black. I personally would like to see a more even mix of players from around the world such as whites, blacks, hispanics, and orientals.

Barry Bonds shows up in Giants pratice in drag I must be crazy but, didn't Bonds say that he didn't like playing, that he might even not play in the 2006 season? What's up with this guy?

posted by nort_12345 at 07:35 PM on March 01

Sorry. I spelled "pratice" instead of "practice".

Another Star Falls To Staroids Bret Boone retires at Mets camp Bret Boone retired Wednesday at New York Mets camp, the culmination of a swift decline for a player who was one of baseball's best second basemen only a few years ago. He missed New York's first intrasquad game Tuesday because of personal reasons, and said he woke up Wednesday morning with a decision that was "crystal clear.''

posted by irunfromclones at 04:42 PM on March 01

I'm glad Boone retired. I'm tired of seeing him doing bad. Not that I like the guy. He just should retire because he can't play anymore.
