Every player picked two group winners successfully.

France/Germany for all of us but one. Germany/Croatia for Bender.

The math on this drove me mad. I had to create the standings table just to make sure scores were correct.

In a game nobody can be bothered with, Poland edge Switzerland 2-1. Robbie Lewandowski gets one.

Wales beat Norn Iron with an Ashley Williams header in the 88th minute. 1-0.

Croatia and Portugal play out a spiteful 0-0 draw, with Portugal winning on penalties. Cristiano Ronaldo continues to endear himself to no-one.

France comfortably beat Ireland 2-0. Pogba gets one after coming on as a sub. There are calls for Didi Deschamps to start him in the quarters.

Germany beat Slovakia 4-0 and start looking the goods. Muller gets a brace.

Belgium beat Hungary 1-0 with an extra time winner from Rommy Lukaku, who does nothing else all game and was about to be subbed off.

Spain can't score, so Italy take them to extra time, when Graziano Pelle scuffs a shot in from 3 yards out, off his shin.

Oh for fuck's sake, England are outplayed for much of the game but Wayne Rooney scores from a free kick with 5 minutes left. This only happens so they can lose on penalties in the quarters. As fate demands.

Switzerland 0-2 Poland (Lewandowski finally breaks his duck. Incidentally, how does a duck get broken? Is it a broken beak or a broken leg or wing?)

Wales 2-0 N. Ireland (Ramsey. Apparently a peroxide job does wonders for the chance to transfer to Man U, if you believe the Guardian's rumor mill.)

Croatia 3-1 Portugal (Mandzukic finally comes good. As an aside, Peresic. Dude looks like he's 50, but he's only 27.)

France 2-0 Ireland (Payet again. Thanks god for colonialism, say the former colonizers of the isle of Reunion.)

Germany 3-1 Slovakia (Muller looks like he's due for one, despite the fact that his Euro record is a stark contrast to his WC exploits.)

Hungary 1-2 Belgium (Lukakakakakuuuuu.....)

Italy 1-2 Spain (David Silva with that silky-smooth-let-me-seduce-your-wife-while-I-make-this-defense-splitting-pass-insouciance.)

Engerland 3-1 Iceland (Vardy Party in Your Mama's Pants.)

"From cricket, where duck means a score of zero."

Well, ok, but . . . ?

"Duck is short for duck's egg, which is the shape of a 0."

Switzerland 1 vs. Poland 2 - Lewandowski (ducks, breaks, eh)
Wales 2 vs. Northern Ireland 0 - Bale (but again JoePirlo Allen is Man of the Match)
Croatia 1 vs. Portugal 0 - Modric (the ref's final whistle blows and Ronaldo's head explodes)
France 3 vs. Republic of Ireland 0 - Payet (RoI fans serenade their players off the field)
Germany 3 vs. Slovakia 0 - Gomez (Ruthlessness returns)
Hungary 0 vs. Belgium 2 - Hazard (Sadly)
Italy 1 vs. Spain 2 - Morata (Spain remember, oh yes)
England 2 vs. Iceland 1 - Sturridge (I just wanna see him dance)
