John Wall compared to Mariah Carey, and it has nothing to do with singing.

Nothing about the Marlins bringing back Jack McKeon at 80 years old to be the interim manager ... shocking!

I guess it's a relief to have the Cup riot kissing couple positively identified.

Previously, the only known documentation on the young woman was an entry in the Vancouver police report under Criminal Mischief/ Damage to Motor Vehicles:

"Currently resting on boot and bonnet, being set on fire by unidentified white male"

Contract year. Headed to free agency after rejecting spring contract offer. Down year. And now this. Poor Pujols.

Poor Pujols

How I wish I had his problems ...

My fantasy team needs him though my team is terrible even with him, so it might not make a huge difference.

Maybe all except the broken arm.

Number 15 is probably the closest race in the entire list: Bossy vs MacInnis vs Sakic

Of course, the later you get in the draft, the bigger the difference between their choice and anyone else, simply because those mid- to late-round steals REALLY stand out (Iginla, Trottier, Clarke).

I dunno - here's where I take issue (great subject):

#2 - I think I take Pronger over Shanahan. I think he's more integral to winning.

#6 - I think Coffey had the better career, but Forsberg was the better player.

#15 - I think they're all great, but I pretty much agree. Bossy was unreal.

#18 - I think I don't like any of these guys that much.

#23 - I like Ray Whitney, but I don't really think he's better than Bertuzzi pre-Steve Moore. I guess it's the longevity vs. peak argument, and most of the time, I go peak.

The St. Louis Blues apparently agree with you. The Whale thinks you're out of your mind.

#2 - That's a close race too, and I can be swayed in either direction. I just like Shanahan more as a player.

#6 - Forsberg may have had more raw talent, but Coffey was a better player more often (because of his lack of injuries). The best description I can give about Coffey is that if you had a slider to describe a defenseman as "offensive" on one end and "defensive" on the other, Coffey's slider would have slid off the "offensive" side and fallen to the floor, 10 feet away. Watching Coffey skate with the puck was like watching defensive version of Pavel Bure; pure poetry. He also used that speed defensively, when required. He led the league in shorthanded goals one year, so they put him out there to kill penalties.

I think Forsberg's injuries robbed us of a top 10 talent, but I just can't give credit for games he didn't play.

Interesting that no fewer than 7 of the top 30 "busts" are from a single year: 1999. Terrible draft year: the only three impact players from the top two rounds are arguably the Sedins at #2 and #3, and Martin Havlat at #28, though I'd probably include Barret Jackman at #15 and Nick Boynton at #21 as under-appreciated defenceman. But seriously, what a terrible draft year.

Didn't the Whale kind of have to do something with Pronger? If I remember the gossip correctly, Pronger was kind of a wild child in Hartford and it was clear that he just wasn't going to behave.

They traded him to St. Louis for Shanahan, who was only around for a brief time before he was traded to Detroit for Kieth Primeau. Pronger, on the other hand, was shortly thereafter named the youngest team captain in NHL history (at the time) and went on to lead a couple of pretty good teams. Rumor has it, he still is doing quite well; the Whale, on the other hand...

Although I don't think you share my tears regarding the eventual fate of the Whale

But seriously, what a terrible draft year.

Take a look a little deeper in that draft too; Ryan Miller in Round 5, Henrik Zetterberg in Round 7. Perennial all-stars, which shows how much of a craps shoot first rounders can be.

I like the fact that the Wings didn't draft in the first three rounds, and still nabbed arguably the best player from that draft...
