Prelude to a faces punching : Did you get your music? I got most of mine. It has come to my attention, however, that some people have yet to send their CDs out. Know this: the guy that I know who will punch you in your faces has been working on a new move - one where he punches you with both fists at the same time!

So who owes you music? Call 'em out, because nothing humbles internet nerds more than other internet nerds talking smack about them in an unfrequented corner of a moderately popular sportsblog. Also so I know where to send Tommy Two-fists.

I got all mine. Unfortunately, I sent MrFrisby a coaster and need to send out a replacement disc.

Go ahead. Punch me in the face. I'll even goatse my mouth if it'll help. As of 11:07 Texas time, I've got nine burned discs and eight addressed envelopes. Stuffing will commence, as always, after I put my dog to bed. Excuse list: I didn't realize that is was nigh impossible to pull tracks off of an iPod and put them back on your C:/ drive. WTF, stupid mac folk? As a result, I downloaded most of the tracks from my original tracklist, ripped the few I couldn't find on SoulSeek (calm down, I own all the albums represented on my mix) and finally got them burnt. New (slightly) adjusted tracklist: Malayonnaise 1 - The Vandals - Change the world with my hockey stick 2 - The Business - Sabotage the hunt 3 - The Smoking Popes - Not that kind of Girlfriend 4 - The Von Ehrics - Any Road 5 - The Old 97's - Victoria (live) 6 - The Be-Good Tanyas - The Littlest Birds 7 - Badly Drawn Boy - Once around the block 8 - The Theatre Fire - Valentwine 9 - Iris DeMent - Sweet Is The Melody 10 - Tom Waits - Never Let Go 11 - James - Laid 12 - Big Boys - Which Way To Go 13 - Mission of Burma - Wounded World 14 - Cannibal Ox f/ Jean Grae - Swing Blades 15 - Aesop Rock - Babies with Guns 16 - Descendents - Bikeage 17 - DeVotchKa - The Enemy Guns 18 - Saxon Shore - This Shameless Moment 19 - Ad Astra Per Aspera - Flannery's Coming Home For the record, I've rec'd cd's from qbert72, Folkways, BullPenPro and SummersEve, so I'm batting .500, which is pretty damn good for an interweb swap. My discs will be in the mail tomorrow PM.

Folks on my list - let me know about the quality of what you received. It was the first time I'd burned on my VAIO, and although I tested a few discs, I can't guarantee anything at your end.

I am not participating in this swap (or any others for that matter), and I will tell you why: The "due date" for the last web-community swap I participated in coincided with my father's death. A few people on the swap list posted something similar to this thread and gave people (including me) a hard time for being lazy—or worse. I explained myself and a few people were understanding, but a few others were not. I have not joined a swap since. I eventually fulfilled my obligation, and even received some nice supportive emails that I appreciated, but overall the experience was a rather negative one for me. Perhaps a nicer "callout" reminding people of their obligation in the future? I know as long as callouts and not private emails are used as "reminders" that I will avoid such ....fun ... activities.

I got all mine from the Mike Ricci posse, and some time ago. I know at least one of my discs found its way to its destination and I hope the rest did as well. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go listen to some Ashlee Simpson cranked up to hyperspeed...

As of last Tuesday (the last time I was able to get to my post office box) I had one of four from Team Wayne Rooney. But one was coming from China, so...it'll get here when it gets here.

I have had CDs from Vito and from Billsaysthis so far. As for my own, I've been a very bad four-digit user and my previous attempt to mail out the CDs fizzled, when I decided I didn't like any of the songs I'd chosen, after I burned the first set. I bought special shiny colour CDs, some new jewel cases, designed and printed the cover and addressed the envelopes and then it all sort of fell apart at the last fence, as I really struggled selecting music that wouldn't make other people want to slit their wrists. I'm hoping to have some inspiration punched into my faces.

I received a CD from all the members of Team Ricci. It is true that apoch sent me a blank disc though. So, I took that disc and burned NFTRB vol.II to it and sent it back to him.

Mine were all sent tusday a week ago. The two in the usa should be there, the two two Canada on the other hand, putting pot seeds on the list of items on the customs form may cause them to take a bit longer.

Team Otis Nixon is batting .500 (a lot better than the real Otis ever did). I've received SummersEve's and BullpenPro's. BullpenPro impressed me with his production values: cover art, a print on the CD itself and a handwritten note. It made me feel quite the cheap with my "Imprimé à l'aide d'iTunes" cover mosaic. Recipients of my mix may want to know that all 4 covers ended up printed differently. I printed the first one on regular paper, then tried "premium" paper, which was nicer, but not nice enough to justify throwing away a sheet of normal paper. So I printed my last 2, but the yellow cartridge ran out in the middle of the first one, so the final results were: * 1 correctly printed on normal paper * 1 correctly printed on premium paper * 1 half-correct, half-red printed on premium paper * 1 full-red on premium paper So you all got unique items. I realized that I never listen to audio CDs anymore. They make too much noise spinning in the laptop. So I need to rip your CDs. But first I need to write down all the tracks info, since your CDs are not on CDDB, of course (I will submit them, by the way). And that's where I'm at. Lazyness took over. I'll give you guys a better review when I've found the strength to type all these titles and artists. I'm missing Ufez's and garfield's, who have both made ample excuses already. I'll wait it out.

posted by qbert72 at 09:06 AM on January 29, 2007

I'm in Ufez's boat. I have many excuses for not getting on the ball, some of which may even be valid, but none of which would exclude me from the face-punch party. I have my mix ready, and I've received two discs (I can vouch for Miz Bat's being solid top-to-bottom), so, y'know, I know.

Jesus Christ. Take Covers! Vol. 1 & 2 will finally hit the mail tomorrow morning. After spending too much time choosing the music, I then had little trouble burning the discs and an amazing amount of trouble making the stupid CD covers. I used Nero to do everything, and let me say that Nero's labelling system is the most contrived, counterintuitive piece of shit program I've ever used. If we do this again, I plan to draw by hand or farm out the work to a buddy of mine for an autograph or something. Nero's POS doesn't even allow you to copy and paste the fucking text. I'd also suggest to all the members of Team Patrick Ewing receiving these discs that they listen to the CD in the back (The Classics) first. Save the George Jones cover of "Time Is On My Side" for later. Take Covers -- The Classics: 1) Billy Idol -- Mony Mony 2) David Lee Roth -- Just A Gigolo 3) Hey Hey What Can I Do? -- Hootie and the Blowfish 4) Talking Heads -- Take Me To The River 5) The Smithereens -- Time Won't Let Me 6) Van Halen -- Pretty Woman 7) ZZ Top -- Thank You 8) Ned's Atomic Dustbin -- Saturday Night 9) Run DMC & Aerosmith -- Walk This Way 10) Devo -- Satisfaction 11) Stone Temple Pilots -- Break On Through 12) CCR -- I Heard It Through The Grapevine 13) Red Hot Chili Peppers -- Higher Ground 14) Stevie Ray Vaughan -- Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) Take Covers -- The Other Stuff: 1) Alien Ant Farm -- Smooth Criminal 2) Istanbul (Not Constantinople) -- They Might Be Giants 3) Take On Me -- Reel Big Fish 4) Social Distortion -- Ring Of Fire 5) Stabbing Westward -- Bizarre Love Triangle 6) Paul Anka -- Smells Like Teen Spirit 7) Gun -- Word Up 8) Tom Jones featuring Art Of Noise -- Kiss 9) Faith No More -- Easy 10) Rock And Roll All Night -- Toad The Wet Sprocket 11) Richard Thompson -- Oops, I Did It Again 12) George Jones -- Time Is On My Side 13) Barenaked Ladies -- Fight The Power 14) The Gourds -- Gin And Juice 15) Sublime -- Hong Kong Phooey 16) Rockapella -- You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch 17) Weird Al Yankovic -- Polkarama! Enjoy!

Yeah. So. Apparently you can't send CDs from China without a receipt. Or they have to be sent through Beijing to be inspected. Or something. I can't really be sure. I returned to the post office with a co-worker to help me sort it out and was met with no resistance. I sent lil_brown_bat the one I had with me and will attempt to send the rest very soon. So keep an eye out for it and let me know the condition. The lady that packs things in secure boxes was the one who said I couldn't so I had to go with a plain simple envelope although two of the discs are pretty well protected. For sorting purposes the first disc with Chinese music is blue. The second disc with English songs, (and four hidden lockerroom related tracks), is yellow. I have created and included a third disc that is orange to sort of make up for the delay. It is all over the place musically. The final track is sort of a musical eagle with a tear in it's eye. Pretty amazing. In fact, I just made it available for download. 1. Squirrel Nut Zippers - Ghost Of Stephen Foster (3:32) 2. Scissor Sisters - Kiss You Off (5:02) 3. Revolting Cocks - Do You Think I'm Sexy (5:33) 4. White Zombie - Boogie Man (4:48) 5. Prick - I Apologise (2:48) 6. Squeeze - Cool For Cats (3:11) 7. Ben Folds (w/ R. Wainwright) - Careless Whisper (3:42) 8. Book Of Love - Witchcraft (3:43) 9. Flipsyde - Trumpets (Never Be The Same Again) (3:58) 10. Bodies Without Organs - Sunshine in the Rain (3:28) 11. Puff Daddy feat. Mase, BIG - Been Around the World (3:57) 12. Scissor Sisters - I Don't Feel Like Dancin' (4:48) 13. Digable Planets - Nickel Bags (3:18) 14. The Gourds - Gin and Juice (6:24) 15. Squirrel Nut Zippers - La Grippe (3:10) 16. Marty Robbins - Devil Woman (2:52) 17. Buck 65 - The Centaur (3:22) 18. Buddy Holly - Fool's Paradise (2:27) 19. Red Simpson & Junior Brown - Nitro Express (2:54) 20. Marty Robbins - The Master's Call (3:07) 21. Diamond Rio - One More Day With You (Dale Earnhardt Mix) (2:48) I have received discs from lil_brown_bat and bperk. Hooray!
