Patiently, Fat Buddha allowed StarFooker to build his sand mandala of fantasy points only to sweep it all away at the point of completion. Like the tiny termite, Fat Buddha gnawed away at the Fooker's pagoda of dreams, reducing it all to dust. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Fat Buddha soared into the heavens in one final burst, searing all in his wake. Truly, a greater feat has not been produced, the majesty of this event causing even the mighty to tremble.

I can say without hyperbole that this is the greatest upset in the history of civilization.

Kudos ... Trashingest player: StarFooker, for his amazing 18-wk unbroken streak, and setting up this most dramatic of finishes. Best Copycat: BigCalm, FB's Midlands rival, for reproducing a smaller yet loving version of FB's last-gasp win, by stealing #11 from Drood at the final buzzer. Biggest Heart: etrader9, SF's buddy, for coming in 16 weeks (that's almost half the season!) behind everyone else and still managing to finish two places from bottom. Biggest What-ifs: Mossy (#3) and pfuller (#6), for splendid finishes even though they started three weeks behind. Might we have had an even closer finish if these two had started with everyone else? Best pictures: The Fooker. I think it was he that started the practice of posting silly or sexy pictures in comments. Never failed to make me laugh. Funnest Fantasy Leaguers: All of us, for sticking through it all, and taking this way too seriously. It was truly fun to compete against you.

btw, can someone please plot a graph of SF vs FB, showing their Total to Date from week 1 through to the end, x-axis = week, y-axis = total points? I'll do it if someone can host the GIF. But I'd prefer if someone else put it together, too.

FB: Would you agree to an interview? Right away?

posted by worldcup2002 at 01:50 AM on May 13, 2003

I refuse to believe it! FB steals it at the death! Surely the greatest comeback ever!!! I did offer to buy a trophy for Starfucker. Would you like it instead FB? (conditions apply: You must either post on to the next winner or agree to buy the next one). I promise not to engrave any snarky comments about Birmingham City on it. Honest.

This trophy was really the fucker's, but I guess Buddha can hold it now. Pucker up FB!

Dammit, dammit, DAMMit! You know, if Kewell didn't have a death in the family or whatever it was, i would have picked up Henry and all of this would have never happened...there was nothing at all to indicate that Kewell was not going to play Sunday...i feel ripped off. Congratulations Buddha...next year i will not take any chances. Oh god, i feel sick...

Oh my Jebus, how fantastic. I think every single SpoFi member should come in there and point and laugh at the cocky bastard that blew his load too early.

I'm stealing this poem and dedicating it to SF ( was previously posted by FB elsewhere I think). Just as Reading found with their "victory" bus It's better to be humble like little old us Don't tempt the wrath of the footballing Gods Because they'll damn you sure as tits run dry with their cursed law of sod.

I forgot to add, thank god this season is finally over.

Where the heck is the Buddha to accept his trophy?

posted by worldcup2002 at 12:26 PM on May 13, 2003

Maybe the shock of winning has left him speechless?

posted by pfuller at 12:35 PM on May 13, 2003

Maybe he's been off'd by SF, hoping to use the "if he can't fufill his role as champion, the runner-up will take his place" clause to get the trophy.

It aint over: Man, I only just found out I won and I have to confess I am laughing my bollocks off. Starfuckerloser, the Wolves of the fantasy league, the Hector Cuper of Spofi, clearly never read this when he was a nipper. I know it doesn't become me to gloat but the fucker has been such a gobby and loud bastard he deserves it. I can't be too savage though as I am just laughing too hard. Thanks everyone, it has been great fun. Thanks to the fucker too, he has been a laugh a minute if the truth is told. The true winner though has to be wc2002 for his constant enthusiasm and his brilliant updates..... he must continue! On preview "Where the heck is the Buddha to accept his trophy?" Some of us are required to sleep and work from time to time, you know!

Buddha: Would you consent to an interview? I want to conduct it in the style of a shouted, steamy locker room, champagne-spraying interview. We must strike while the iron is hot!

posted by worldcup2002 at 01:34 PM on May 13, 2003

Goo on then!

posted by Fat Buddha at 01:41 PM on May 13, 2003

Oh, and it was fun as hell... I can't wait for next year... You know, if you are going to do a locker room interview with the winner, its only appropriate that the loser gets some attention as well...

posted by StarFucker at 01:48 PM on May 13, 2003

I still had the best fantasy team...

posted by StarFucker at 01:50 PM on May 13, 2003

It's good to see you haven't lost it, SF. Congrats to both you and Fat Buddha for a exhilarating finish.

posted by pfuller at 01:59 PM on May 13, 2003

Oh dear Mr Fucker, welcome to Loserville, USA, population: YOU! Of course you had the best fantasy team, that must explain why you LOST! Anyone know how to spell SCHADENFREUDE?

posted by Fat Buddha at 01:59 PM on May 13, 2003

I was being Arsene Wenger, Mr. Oblivious... "Arsene Wenger defiantly insisted that Arsenal were still the best team in England this season - even after handing the title to Manchester United by crashing to defeat at home to Leeds."

posted by StarFucker at 02:05 PM on May 13, 2003

Well, old chap, few peeps would pay attention to anything Wenger would say, seeing as he is a loser too!

posted by Fat Buddha at 02:08 PM on May 13, 2003

Ironically, it was a Leeds player that caused me to lose!

MORE evidence that i should have won...

posted by StarFucker at 09:50 AM on May 14, 2003

From the article: "Manchester United have, how can I say it, more hunger than we do. 'As a team they are much more experienced than us but they have more players who have that vital hunger." Hahaha. That's a good one, SF, playing it like Arsenal. Heeheehee.

Hey, you guys CONSTANTLY complain about baseball posts. I'm not allowed a little of the same?

posted by wfrazerjr at 09:42 AM on May 15, 2003

You know what? You're right, and I apologize. You generally at least have a point in posting something about baseball being boring, while I came in with NO point to do it here. I apologize, and if you wish to remove these comments, please do.

posted by wfrazerjr at 09:44 AM on May 15, 2003

"constantly complain about baseball posts?!!!" Look buddy, look at the front page and see who posted something on baseball. Something good. I don't see you making any similar efforts. I think you'll see more complaints about "too many soccer posts", "soccer posts are too long", as well as "what is this thing called soccer" comments than there are complaints about "baseball." I think that will show itself up clearly in the numbers. And you will be the main culprit. Maybe you should spend more time on finding some useful baseball posts -- maybe there would be less reason for those boring complaints, eh?

posted by worldcup2002 at 09:53 AM on May 15, 2003

Ooooh! Way to stick it to him worldcup... I too am bewildered by the "constantly complain about baseball posts?!!!" comment. Has anyone been doing that? I did it once a few months ago, i think i said something like "baseball sucks", but i'm not even sure that was about baseball, i might have said "football sucks" i don't remember. I DO remember that it was in retaliation for some comment about soccer. I would like to see some proof about these comments about baseball wfrazerjr...

...And gang up on the Basketball fans. Fuck off! It's playoffs! HA HA!! Some losers came into my pub last night. Me and some friends were watching the replay of Wolves and Reading. It was halftime and there was a commercial, so they asked if the basketball game was on this TV. I pretended i had no idea what he was talking about..."Basketball? Is that still going on? Is Jordan playing?" Ha!! Oh man, and then i told him to fuck off, we are watching soccer! Him and his butt buddy left the bar pissed off, it was great!
