A "buried" piece of Redsox memorabelia? Sounds like what the Yankees have done to the Redsox for decades...:) Maybe after the Yanks win thier next world series, they can excavate it and hang it in the visitors locker room? Either way, nice try Bean town:D

Here's the Yahoo story on it. They're planning to clean it up and auction it off for charity, as well as possibly take the guy (who did it) to court. Don't Joke with the Yanks, they'll say you're a "really, really bad" person, and seek Legal Action.

Doesn't matter - the Yankees are and have been cursed for a long time. They are stuck in New York!!! Go, win, anyone but the Yankees! Good for that worker creating a prank - prosecuting someone for a bit of fun would be crazy! Look at all the good publicity it brought the Yanks who always need something good said about them. Leave the prankster alone.

Read the original story. According to the Yankees spokeswoman it "never happened". Nice denial there, tootsie. How was this action a really bad thing? Did it affect the structural integrity of the concrete? Is a Boston fan trying to apply a curse, which I'm sure that Yankee personnel would dismiss as a ridiculous idea, a really bad thing? And why dig up an item that was never placed there, and wouldn't curse the team anyway?

I think the real curse (as an outsider) will happen when the Yankees abandon the old Yankee Stadium for the new one. That's just crazy.

Whats with Sawx fans since they broke their own curse? Have they always been this petty and i just didn't notice? Even if this story is true we're talking about the actions of one man, hardly representative of all 'sawx fans'. Or have you always been that shortsighted and I didn't notice?

Perhaps my sarcasm detector isn't going off but I see it as you can only stay in one place for so long. Yes Yankee Stadium is filled with tradition but there comes a time where a team needs to move to better facilities.

But mark my words: There will be a shudder felt all through baseball next season when the baseball gods realize that opening day has come and gone in New York and the Yankees were not in the house that Ruth built. Even if this story is true we're talking about the actions of one man, hardly representative of all 'sawx fans'. Or have you always been that shortsighted and I didn't notice? Of course it isn't all sox fans, but the ones who make the news, and the ones i was in Iraq with, just seemed particularly whiney about really small things. I hadn't noticed it until after they won the '04 series, but that might be because their complaints seemed legit when they were the lovable losers.

A Red Sox fan buries a Red Sox shirt underneath the new Yankee stadium...now that's funny. This is by far, one of the most ridiculous stories that I have ever read but yet, I'm intrigued by it even though I'm not a fan of either team. This rivialry keeps getting better and better even with scenerios that take place off the field. To have fans this dedicated to their respective teams is a great thing for baseball and I won't ever knock it. Being a Mets fan, I love having this kind of rivalry against the Phillies except it isn't quite as interesting as the Yanks/Red Sox even though we're as passionate as fans as they are. All I can say is, good try Gino Castignoli, Red Sox nation loves you while all Yankee fans now loathe you.

The stories in the news this morning of them digging the concrete back up and removing it (to great fanfare, construction worker pontifications, Ken Levine histrionics, vague threats of criminal prosecution and watch-your-back, and flashbulbs all around) was hilarious. I mean, they didn't even fire the guy. Unless I'm parsing the story wrong, he's still working on the site, fergodsake.

Hanks's quote (or Hal's or whoever it's attributed to today) just mentioned his co-workers, nothing specific to the stadium site itself. The guy could be part of a crew that was just at the stadium that one day. Who knows. Do you really think someone who would wish for a guy to get his ass kicked over a stupid stunt like this really thinks things through?

It's a bad omen for the Yanks, and only a hint of more to come. It's a sacrilige to move that team to a new stadium and tear down that much baseball history. The spirits of the Yankee greats will heap so many curses on that new field it will make Poltergeist look like Casper the friendly ghost.

The Yankees would have to move sometime. Unless you think it would be worth it to continuously renovate a stadium in order to preserve tradition. Plus, if the spirits of Yankee greats were true Yankees I'd expect them to do all they could to help the Yankees win.

The only thing that keeps coming up in my mind is that this guy bragged about this way too soon. If he had kept quiet for another couple months, they couldn't have removed it.

They should have left it buried. It was a David Ortiz jersey, and Ortiz was off to a terrible start. The jersey was exhumed, and Ortiz had 3 hits in the 2 games in Cleveland. That'll teach you, Hank!!!
