I never wish anything bad on people, but this guy deserves to fall.

When interviewed about his DUI, Hines Ward said, " You know alot of people told me I couldn't get a DUI. I was an underdog and people doubted me. I was to small. This shows that with hard work, you can do anything"

Sorry. Just planning in my head how he plans to spin this one.

You're probably not going to get that Jay Demerit documentary you've been craving any time soon.

Is it the shorts?

I can't for the life of me believe that someone would be so unaware, especially after the death of Shannon Stone.

What an idiot? And he still gets his 15 minutes of fame.

Does anyone outside of the Bristol, CT residents of ESPN give a damn about Derek Jeter skipping the All-Star Game? What a faux controversy.

I think they're the only ones giving more than two minutes to the NBA lockout as well.

For a player who is said to respect the game, and supposed to be a 1st Class guy, I find it disrespectful for him to not attend (not necessarily play). If he's healthy enough to play last weekend (and he certainly seemed fine), why can't he go to Arizona for the All-Star Game? Notable that 3 of the players who couldn't be bothered to even attend are Yankees (A-Rod gets a pass, due to surgery). For an organization that preaches class and history, not a good showing.

I dunno, tommy. I think the All-Star game has become sort of like the Pro Bowl, is all. You travel across the country to play an inning or two in a meaningless game...others are choosing to forgo the honor for the same reasons. I think the reality is that the season has become too long and the schedule too packed to leave room for sentimental occasions, which is all that the All-Star game is. We might wish that that wasn't the case and that baseball had a little room to relax, but it doesn't anymore, and that's not Jeter's doing.

"This time it counts."

"Let's play two!"
1959 Game 1 & Game 2
1960 Game 1 & Game 2
1961 Game 1 & Game 2
1962 Game 1 & Game 2

Which is why this is the 82nd All-Star Game, but there have only been 79 seasons with an all-star game (they skipped 1945).

BTW, a HELL of a sliding catch by Bautista (identified as "Batista" in the next-three-batters-list they flashed before the commercial break and his first at-bat).

Yankee players who resist going to Arizona for a ballgame are excused from attending on a renewal of mental anguish basis.

This might take an amendment to the basic agreement on contracts, but how about making any player selected to the game who does not attend and is not on the DL ineligible for the next year's game? In addition to this, he would forfeit any bonus payment in his contract for All Star selection.

Seconded.

I can't seem to find documentation anywhere, but the NHL (believe it or not) seems to have this thing figured out. As I recall, if a player is selected for the All-Star Game, and does not attend (without satisfactory reason), he is suspended for the 1st game after the break.
Since baseball's season is roughly twice as long, 2 games seems about right.

Funny thing about Jeter...people are pissed that he's voted to the team, then pissed again when he doesn't go.
