Comment Formatting: If you have problems formatting comments on SportsFilter, post bug reports here. I'm working on a way to keep users from putting line breaks at odd places while still allowing things like lists. The comments you post here should look exactly like they do in preview.

The problem I have is editing my comments. Once saved all breaks go away. So I go back and put them back in, save, and suddenly there's too many breaks.

What gary said. If I edit my comments the line breaks disappear. Then if I re-edit them it seems to fix it, but not enough data yet. Let me go yell at dviking about Big Ben some more and I'll let you know.... I'm kidding.... kinda.

And when will the wiki link be in place? When my interview returns, I presume.

Carry on.

(I am noticing on edit that there are actual empty spaces that are there that I didn't type. & nbsp; sorts of spaces)

posted by scully at 03:32 PM on February 03, 2009

ok, looks like I have to actually make a change for the rest of the line breaks to return after an edit.

Yeah, it's kind of confusing.

And yes, the wiki. A kingdom for a wiki.

In preview, my comments run all the way to the right of the screen, so that I would have to continue scrolling right to see it all. It doesn't fit in the preview box.

What browser are you using, bperk?

posted by rcade at 06:13 PM on February 03, 2009

Same here. The text box doesn't resize like it does at other similar sites, so if the browser isn't real wide words run over the side. And if advertising is on both sides it gets really bad.

testing in Safari 3.2.1 (Leopard) and not having the issue described above.

OK you computer guru's here at SportsFilter I need help.

Question~If i take me laptop running WINDOWS VISTA and use a USB 2.0 cable and plug it into an iMac G5 running god knows what will they converge and explode into a massive mess of chips and plastic creating a small black hole in my room that then sucks all the rest of my electronics into the void leaving me dumbfucked OR Can I transfer files from the laptop to the iMac safely?

Thanks in advance Y'all, I truly am computer illiterate.

PLH and back to your normal sports talk.

Hi. I'm a comment. I eat pop tarts and pickles for breakfast. I dislike the following:

  • Pens
  • Penguins
  • Penetanguishinians
Thanks for listening. Y'all rock.

Good link BoKnows posted, but are you trying to migrate? If so, Mac has a migration application too.

I updated my profile, and while the changes took, I was unable to verify my new e-mail address. The problem was mine; my mail provider dumped the message into my 'spam' folder instead of my inbox. All is OK now.

Was Yahoo trying to tell me something?

Apple has a video for one solution.

This article spells out the other methods.

You know what I have a problem with?

This "Twilight" crap. And the Jews.

What happened to the flag option?

Another thing I noticed today is that some characters appear fine while typing and in the preview box, but simply disappear once actually posted. And if one goes into the edit box after this happens, the character's just gone. My example for this was an e with an accent mark on it.

Yep, I've had that happen to me too. Touche.

See.

I miss the "new comments" feature. I never know when a thread has had more activity

posted by jerseygirl at 07:56 AM on February 16, 2009

It does make the place look more lively. Plus it keeps the server in shape.

chiming in here to say I miss the updated comment count and I am still waiting for wiki love... or some official statement from rcade as to why he constantly ignores it.

posted by scully at 10:57 AM on February 25, 2009

In one of these threads I said the wiki link's going in the top menu. I'm hoping I can add comment counts, drop the comment link, and link the wiki in its place.

posted by rcade at 12:14 PM on February 25, 2009

I only recall you asking people for suggestions but never a response. Sorry if I missed it, but without new comments it's hard to keep up ;)

posted by scully at 01:16 PM on February 25, 2009

I think a footer link would be fine too.

I know Terrapin was being tongue-in-cheek, but in all truthfulness I kind of don't even bother with SpoFi anymore. I can't keep up with what's new or where I left off reading a thread.

Sad. Feels like the place is fading away.

I imagine that rcade has a lot on his plate as it is, and The New Sportsfilter seems to be mostly roll-your-own, so delegating is probably nearly impossible at this point.

I also think rcade has done a great job of patching the site back together to look like the old one. There are a few "must have" features that would be nice to see such as the new comments, but all-in-all I am happier than I was a few months ago. I seem to visit the actual site rather than just the feed. I'm still interested in seeing a wiki implemented, but that's probably because I did a lot of reading learning to use it and trying to make it look nice. It is certainly not a "must have" .... like ... say... MY INTERVIEW!!! *ahem* sorry... where was I? Oh, yes... I think rcade's doing a bang-up job, but there's work to be done ... so quit moonlighting as a bloody MLS reporter.

I'll try to fire up new message counts this week on a day when I have time to watch the database. My concern is that it'll blow the thing up real good.
