Did holden just quit or was that a joke?: I'm hoping it was the latter. No email in profile, so I couldn't ask him myself.

Seemed pretty jokey to me. The "taking my aura with me" suggests you're still sleepy. If nothing else, I learned he's not the same holden from MetaFilter.

Tis a joke me thinks.

I'm gonna guess: not a joke.

I thought it was an obvious joke.

I'm gonna go with "no joke." Have you noticed the lack of aura around here since he posted that? And by the way, jerseygirl, I had a dream last night that you were a mod on this site. And apparently your name is Jennifer since you started to sign your posts. Heh, only a loser would sign their post. NoMich

I'm going to guess joke.

I'm guessing joke and I certainly hope I'm right.

Sorry, joke. And I wasn't aiming for this thread, which does have a nice "spy on your own funeral aspect to it." I probably shouldn't poke fun of the spate of high profile withdrawals hereabouts, but it was just too delicious, particularly when it was a member of the ever-powerful Red Sox mafia coming after me!!!! Carry on, then. And how about England possibly backing their way into the Euro championships by virtue of Israel's win today, huh?

See? He's gone. I told you it was no joke.

Yeah, if that's the real holden, he's gotten shitty all of a sudden.

I'm absolutely fed up with people pretending to quit. I can't take this anymore. I'm outta here.

Hey, I think that brought our aura back!

My aura is now pink with green polka-dots, should I be worried?

Someone's "aura" is ripe. phew. Sorry, that's my Leafs/Bills/Blue Jays combo-aura. They haven't been in good shape in a VERY long time. I hope they get cleaned up some time in the near future.

I'm gonna guess not a joke. If I'm wrong, I'll quit.

Crap. Just now saw his post above. I take it back.

Since we've figured THAT problem out, I give you Cleveland's funky field goal for anyone who missed it yesterday. I've never seen a bounce like that before. PS. I quit.

posted by DrJohnEvans at 10:41 AM on November 19, 2007

I've never seen a bounce like that before. I'll bet that will never be duplicated. I'm still not sure of how something that is supposedly not reviewable wound up being reviewed. Is it a question of officials not agreeing on the call? In any case, they got it right. OK, I'm outta here!!!

posted by Howard_T at 11:42 AM on November 19, 2007

I thought they didn't actually review the field goal? Later, buttholes!

posted by NoMich at 12:10 PM on November 19, 2007

I've never seen a bounce like that before. When dealing with an oblong shape with points, it's amazing the bounces that thing can take. I've seen a kick returner let a ball bounce in front of him and skip over his head. He then turned around to look for it, but when it bounced again, it came BACK over his head a second time. Naturally, he had no chance to pick it up and the kicking team recovered it. It doesn't sound like they used video review on the play. The referee mentioned a "discussion", which meant the head guy talked it over with the two guys under the cross bar. My guess is one of them signalled "no good", but the other one actually saw it bounce off the back bar but waited until everyone got together to discuss it. Good officiating on their part. P.S. Au revoir!

posted by grum@work at 01:07 PM on November 19, 2007

The official line on the review of the FG was that the officials huddled and talked it over and it was not a "booth review" -- but who knows whether they got word from upstairs that they needed to reverse it. Either way, they should change the rule to permit these things to be reviewed -- what if none of the officials had seen it go through? I have updated my profile so as to include an email address for future communications about my quittingness. Sorry, jg, but thanks for the concern.

Since holden couldn't stay away, I'm going to quit. And I'm taking holden's aura with me.

And I'm taking holden's aura with me. Oh, great. Now we'll never get the deposit back. And it was in Euros, dammit!

Oh, are we link dumping now? Then I will submit this: Brodeur's best save of the night of his 500th win.
