Congratulations... Now where are the trophies?!
So, 20th it was, eh SF? Though given a comparison of last year's results to this year's top 10 it would seem that you could use that 20th place as a springboard into the top 5 or 10 next year. I am, of course aware that your showing last year and the year before <choke> (when I didn't participate) was significantly better than 20th place. But you were possibly the most vocal participant from the lower reaches of the table. I don't think there is a prize for that though.
Yes, the banter was limited... But it was a close competition at the top. I did still win my REAL LEAGUE, but just barely. For the win i get a football jersey of my choice and my sign up fee or 60-70 dollars waived for next year. Too bad we don't have any prizes for our league here, but i suppose we can't really...
Congratulations squealy... well played. Shouldn't we buy him some pints or something?
Thanks guys. It was a close competition until the penultimate gameweek when my Pires gamble paid off. Well done to Mark and Bill for claiming the silver and bronze spots.
Congrats Squealy! This is really fun for me and has gotten me to be much more interested and knowledgable about football. Hard to believe I won the last gameweek with only 13 points from my forwards and Duff out injured but I'm truly chuffed to have beaten WC and SF this year.
Nice one Squealy old chap; the Bluenose hegemony continues!
Here's a trophy from the past.
Nice job, Neil! Thanks for a fun season everyone.
I'll offer to buy the trophy, just give me an address to send it to. The only condition is that you have to buy the next one, or send it on!
I don't need no steeenking trophy! It's enough for me to know that, as FB so rightly points out, the Bluenose hegemony rolls ever onwards. (Cyber-trophies are OK though, just preferably not shaped like male genitalia).
The Bluenose vice-like grip on this league shall come to an end sooner or later. But it won't be me that wins the league.
The trophy will be in red hands next year...
I wasn't aware there were any Man USA fans competing?
Red as in Liverpool!!! Smartguy...
Bleah, and Aresenal is wearing "claret" next year.
Claret? What, they're trying to be Aston Villa now? West Ham? Man.
Believe me, no one *tries* to be Aston Viler.
Apparently, that's the color they wore their first year in Highbury oh so many years ago. It just don't look right without white sleeves I tell ya.
Is it going to be their last year in Highbury before the move to the new stadium? I guess I can go for the explanation, if it's true. Claret it is. But I agree w/ trox, it's just not right w/o white sleeves. And red shirts!
About 25% of me thinks it's good they're going with tradition, which is one of the many things money has battered out of the beautiful game over the last decade. The other, cynical 75% makes me wonder just how many shirts they'll shift next year.
The English clubs always change kits every second or third year. Maybe this is one year less, so what? Obviously there are enough fans who buy the new stuff so why should I care?
wck2002, you hit it on the head. It's their Highbury commemorative kit, before they move into Ashburton Grove.
That is a good thought. Some historical motivation or angle. Some (many?) alterations in the kits seemed to be motivated by moving more merchandise or at least to keep things up to date with the latest advertiser that goes on the front.
Don't get me wrong, I do *get* that football is a business nowadays and Arsenal have a shiny new stadium to finance. It's just that it's such a blatantly cynical ploy to wrap it in the veneer of "tradition" and commemoration, when what it is is inspired marketing, pure and simple.
