Depor v Liverpool So, since the last Liverpool post was busy, i thought I'd put up a link to the Guardian's coverage of today's CL game between Liverpool and Deportivo La Coruna. Predictions, comments and rants welcome.

Of course you can also follow United v Sparta at the Guardian, and follow more serious play by plays at Soccernet and the BBC.

Cisse suffers horrible broken Leg Liverpool's Djibril Cisse broke his tibia and fibula on Saturday morning at Blackburn. It seems like that ground is cursed for the Reds, with Jamie Carragher breaking his leg and Milan Baros breaking an ankle there last year. Warning: the link includes a picture which is almost of Joe Theisman horror.

Owen's off to Madrid while Viera finally decides to stay.

Liverpool fans aren't too happy with the way Owen's leaving, with only $8m pounds going the other way. Can anyone see this as being good for either the 'Pool or Owen? And does Viera staying at Arsenal mean that the Gunners are going to win it all again? The Premiership starts tomorrow.

It's never too early to start Spofi's Fantasy EPL! We can debate the truth of such a statement (first game kicks off on Aug 19th) inside where the details of the league will be found.

Brazil? You should have seen Argentina this morning... I was at the pub yesterday watching the game, and it was agonizing...

Get ready to dislike America American soccer players should enjoy being ridiculed: soon enough they'll be boring world-beaters says SpoFi stalwart Steven Wells.

Drood, Canada's a great place to be for watching the world cup! Every game is on basic cable (either TSN or Sportsnet), sometimes twice, and even The Score has jumped on the bandwagon (although you have to put up with their idiot 'reporters'). I'm thoroughly looking forward to the World Cup, and kinda wishing I was unemployed like last time.... And hockey's over soon...

Secret Signals. If you get bored watching England try to break down a defensive Paraguayan team, or lose interest during the classic Poland vs Ecuador match, you can always watch the hidden communications between the officials. Two weeks ago the Italian FA withdrew its original officials for the world cup, while investigations continue into rather different secrets. (Previous SpoFi : 1 , 2)

I used to ref when I was a teenager. It was an easy way to make some spare cash, and while I never reffed at that high a level, the sprinting towards the center on a score was something that we were taught... Now the clenched fist thing, that explains a lot.

Rooney may only play as early as World Cup second round ... if England make it that far. "The exact position will be ascertained today when Rooney undergoes a hospital scan on his broken metatarsal. There is no doubt the striker has made encouraging progress, but he has been informed in the last 24 hours that there is only a slender chance, at best, of him appearing for England before June 24."

And don't forget the conspiracy theory! Alex Ferguson just fired ManU's doctor. No FA member will be there for the scan, and Ferguson doesn't want Rooney to go. Crazy stuff...

Champions of Europe! UEFA Champions League decided tonight. I'll avoid putting the result right in the post lest some Statesiders have intentions to watch the game on delay but just can't avoid wandering past Spofi.

holden, all of us at the pub were saying exactly the same thing. What a waste of time...

The foul was outside the box, so no penalty, but a clear red card. I too was disappointed he didn't play advantage. It would have been nice to see some more 11 on 11 with Arsenal attacking and Barca coming back on the break. And that foul that led to Arsenal's goal was a blatant dive - he didn't even get touched... fun game to watch as a neutral, though.

Meet Theo Walcott of Arsenal Reserves... and England The 17-year-old striker has made it into the provisional squad for Germany, in spite of never making a first-team appearance for his club since signing from Southampton. Then again, no-one had heard of Pelé in 1958, either.

Someone above mentioned Scott Parker. He's got 'glandular fever', which as I understand is the same as Mononucleosis. He isn't going to be playing for a while...

Tottenham Not So Hotspur Health officials in England are investigating the sudden food-related illness of 10 Spurs players at a hotel right before their match Sunday, which they lost 2-1 (along with their fourth place Champions League spot).

That's life as a Spur's fan, I guess.... It might not be that bad for them, though. If they entered the CL qualifier with no points in Europe (as Everton did this year), they could have been drawn against a Spanish or Italian 3rd or 4th team for the qualifiers, and then miss out on Europe alltogether except for 2 games. Now, they get the UEFA cup, will hopefully have a good run, gain some experience and points, and have a run at it again next year...

Why the Leafs Stink A headline in this morning's Toronto Star is refreshingly blunt about the current fortunes of the local NHL team, seven points out of a playoff spot with two weeks left in the season.

Gerrard to leave Liverpool (finally)? Latest contract talks have broken down, with the player's agent claiming they won't resume. I'm getting tired of the old off and on, the waiting, the conflicting statements. I'm more interested in who we'll be able to buy with the money from selling Stevie. Chelsea have offered GBP 32m. Wonder if Madrid can top that.

Radio 5 says that Barca offered 37m. Holy Crap that's a lot of money. Personally, I'm sad to see him go, but for that kind of cash...
