Freaking awesome. It's really difficult to hate the Red Sox when guys like Varitek populate their clubhouse.

Now I have to find myself a signed Chunky.

What a great guy!

Yukon, I have to say that I didn't like your second link -- "That's great customer experience!" Ptui. Yeah, dude, I know that's what your blog is all about, but I hate anyone getting corporate butt-licker stink all over what seemed like it was just a nice spontaneous and neighborly gesture, not some calculated PR move.

Comment icon posted by lil_brown_bat at 9:44 AM CDT on November 2

Kudos to Varitek! He probably made a lot of trick or treaters very happy.

I have to agree with lbb tho, Yukon's link sucked canal water. Nothing takes the joy out of a nice gesture like someone undermining the motives of Varitek.
Probably never crossed this guy's mind that maybe Jason did it just because he felt like it. (btw, nothing personal, yukon.)

I think you misread that second link. I didn't get the impression the person felt like it was a calculated move, just that he filters everything he sees through what he does for a living. Which I can relate to.

yerfatma, sure, I understand that -- like I said, it's what his blog is all about. It's just that I dislike it when someone, a journalist or a blogger or whatever, takes something and reinterprets its significance (if not its intent) to support whatever unrelated point he/she is trying to make. I think it makes for wicked crappy writing.

I agree with fraze- Freaking Awesome!
He made the night unforgettable for all of those kids. What a great treat.

This depends. Are we talking peanuts M&Ms? Because I fricken' love those.

Also, good on Varitek.

I agree with fraze totally. Tek puts the super in superstar.

I seem to remember this "blogger or whatever" referencing it as a "first hand account" of the scene, yet you had no problem creating your own opportunity to make an "unrelated point".

...and I'm pretty sure his blog allows comments. How about you voice your opinion with the original author?

I actually like the Redsox, but I have to admit that the love they are getting on this site recently has been a little overboard. Kind of makes me understand the Crafty one's departing. Even Mike Sweeny of the Royals, who I think they should release, does more for his community than sign autographs on All Hallows Eve.

Where did Crafty go?

It's not difficult for me at all.

Where did Crafty go?

To avoid a derail you can read about it in the locker room. For the record, his leaving had nothing to do with red sox love.

Coming off their playoff performance... really?

Boston's record in supporting various causes, both as a team and as individuals, is unsurpassed. The Jimmy Fund is probably the salient example. This autograph signing is just one small incident that drew some attention and in no way represents the totality of activity on behalf of the community. Sounds like a bit of envy to me, hawkguy.

In the last week (7 days) there was the world series post, which will always be posted, and this one. That's overboard?

(and want to talk about other teams? Post links)

Comment icon posted by justgary at 2:50 AM CDT on November 3

Besides isn't this post about an individual, not a team? Jason Varitek is a member of a team. He may potentially be a member of the Republican party, if so is Spofi decidedly right wing?

It's a puff piece about a nice gesture by someone who children might look up to. The fact that this thread got more comments than what fraze wrote is shocking.

Wait...I take it back, it's not shocking at all.

It’s all about ”Tek.” He’s already loved by Red Sox Nation because of his great play on the field and his leadership in the club house. So he did not need to spend a couple of hours giving out signatures on his front walk. But he did. And he did it graciously. That’s great customer experience!

Yerfatma, I reread Yukon's link and even read the "who's bruce?". I can see you point. And I suppose we all filters everything he sees through what he does for a living. I guess I am somewhat cynical at times. But I think Bruce could have stopped before he wrote what I quoted above, that is what ruined it for me. I guess I just like to take things at face value some times. Maybe he could have ended the piece before the "That's great customer experience!" quote.

Or, maybe I am missing something here. My coffee hasn't kicked in yet.

Fucking cheap bastard should have bought some candy.

"Let me sign that shirt."
"Fuck you, hand over the M&M's, bitch."

I actually do not like the Red Sox at all, but I will admit when a team or player does something that is fan friendly, especially for kids. I would prefer to see more stories about athletes doing the right thing than breaking the law. But then we would have to find something else to argue about. Just because I respect a player does not mean I am jumping on a bandwagon, lets definitely get that straight (Hawk- I know you werent singling me out- just my perspective on why I commented in the positive).

Yukon:

Well, no, it was the other way around. The blogger took his "first hand account" of this happening and used it to make an observation about "great customer experience", when in fact it had nothing to do with that. It was just a local celebrity doing a nice thing. The blogger's point was unrelated and my point was right on the mark.

How was your comment relevant in the context of how I posted the link? You just have that burning need to start attacking the link I posted? I don't remember referencing it in any way, shape or form. Still haven't seen you post on his blog, do you not feel it's relevant enough point to bring it up with him?

Comment icon posted by YukonGold at 10:42 AM CDT on November 4

Uh...no...it wasn't an attack, Yukon, it was an observation and it was about the link that you posted, not about you.

But don't don't don't let's start
I've got a weak heart
