He could have been a really good basketball player for a long time, but instead he decided to devote his efforts to becoming a full-time spectacle. Everything he has ever done screams, "LOOK AT ME!"

He probably would have been a bit better if he had played his whole career like he played when he was with the Pistons.

Somebody recently told me that he thought Rodman was a better all-around defender than Ben Wallace. I disagreed with him. I would like to hear some thoughts about who you all think is the better all-around defender, just to settle this argument.

Eh, I'd take Wallace, I guess, but they were both pretty strong. Ben does it all over the court, while Rodman brought it in the paint. That's the main difference, as far as on-court performance anyways, far as I can tell. (There's a consistency advantage with Ben as well. Rodman would bring it only sometimes.) That'd be a fearsome twosome, though. They'd be shutting teams out. Literally.

If Rodman would have taken his basketball career seriously, he would have gone down as the best all-time defender, period. Great hustle, fantastic rebounder, just relentless. Plus, all he really wanted to do was play defense and rebound. His attitude worked for him too, seeing as how he'd constantly get under opponent's skin and cause them to lose their focus.

He may not appear to be, but Dennis Rodman is actually quite clever. He got some rings, marketed himself quite well (even if much of it was negative publicity), became a household name, and he made a lot of money. He might come off as some kind of lunatic with narcissistic tendencies, but he's made more money than I think I ever will - not that money is the goal of my life. Many of us try to find ways and schemes to gain some extra cash, Rodman found a way for himself. I really loved watching Rodman in the young years, when he had absolutely no expectations from the game. He played it the way it was meant to be played - with fun and enthusiasum. Does success change everything? You betcha!!!
