Makes Me Want to La La La La: Though Ashlee Simpson's caterwauling was "simply hideous," Orange Bowl fans were booing the entire halftime recording industry infomercial, writes Dick Scanlon. "Most of the 77,000 people at that game paid good money for their tickets. They didn't ask for a silly and annoying MTV promotion to fill up their halftime."

That was the best thing EVAR during a bowl game. Almost made up for the lack of drama. My heart was gladdened by the booing: I would have expected thunderous applause per the flashing signs in today's Corporate America. As a counterpoint, my SO, my source for all things vocalized, says Ashely can sing in a studio with her coach there walking her through her lines (per repeated viewings of The Ashley Simpson Show). And the song in question is a tough one with octave changes, half notes, whatever the hell. Either way, she can't really sing and that dance she did on SNL confirmed the fact she sucks. The only thing I feel bad about is half the pile-on she's seeing belongs to her sister.

What is her drawing factor, other than she has a famous, and talented sister! Her sister can sing!

Oh, you oldsters! That circle-A stood for Ashlee. See, Ashlee starts with A. Just ask her! She'll tell you. Silly. And I wanna see none of this hate for her infinitely more talented sister. Not one whit. I loved that the announcer didn't know whether he should acknowledge the hostility or not.

Wait a minute: let's not start hating on Brad Nestler. Joe Simpson isn't pimping him.

I think that her sister's 15 minutes is about done too!

They have to deploy snipers for when the crowd gives the performance the thumbs down, they can execute the performer, ala ancient Rome, very traditional. You see the Rose bowl? I think it was mostly precision marching band stuff harkening back to its roots in the formations of the British army circa 1700s and country line dancing. But I think there was also some pre-packaged video crap too...I blanked that part from my memory though.

Britney Spears should thank Ashlee Simpson for making her look like a credible musician.

I know the networks like to cross-promote their record label's musical acts during sporting events. But seriously, aside from the obvious economic considerations, who the fuck is programming these half time shows? Do they understand the TV audience for a college bowl game is probably not the kind of audience that will be receptive to these pop princesses? I don't see why they don't show Dave Matthews or The Roots (or whatever big acts they have signed that might actually appeal to their audience demographic). At least they had their token country singer for the redneck dollar.

Hey, it was a good time for a bathroom break. The music is irrelevant to me anyway, I am so out of date on what I enjoy that other than the new U2 video during the Orange Bowl halftime (which ABC of course ruined by inserting first half highlights and audio) I could care less who they show. Springsteen ain't playing at any of these games.

Sweet- glad to know I'm not the only person who a) was ushered into puberty by the smokin', well-curved Lynda Carter, and b) still would give 'er a ride today- I can appreciate a good milf, like when I happen across her on some Lifetime movie while flipping through channels...

This link got forwarded to me last night. It's a picture right after the cameras went to that aerial shot and the announcer started tripping over his words. Hilarious. I don't know why her "punk" guitarist looks like he has a pink weenie though. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/chibinekocutie/aww.jpg

Ahhhh yes, the trolling has begun. I sure enjoyed this village while it lasted, but now it's a fair sized town. I'll stick around, but I guess I don't know the sherriff anymore.

We may not know the sheriff, but I think we can find a few honorable men to run the morons out of town.
