That's a huge shock!

The Texans should entertain trade offers. If they can get anything for the pick they should and take White with a later pick. Of the two, he is more ready for the pro game.

I'm a slightly surprised, actually. I wondered if he'd gamble on another year, collect a second Heisman, and try to make this year's Rose Bowl a distant memory.... In the end, I guess, he'd probably have to lose a leg to drop from the top pick, so might as well go for it.

2,980 all-purpose yards? Damn, that's impressive.

Mock Draft 1. Texans- Vince Young. 2. Saints- Matt Leinart 3. Titans- Reggie Bush 4. 49ers- Screw up. 5. Packers- LenDale White. The Texans have started talking about drafting VY, I think that they have already made that decision. The Saints are drafting Leinart, game over, LA to L.A. The Niners plan to draft a Trojan, but not a RB, like LenDale. The Packers have already said that in light of the draft order, and the apathy shown by S.F. towards LenDale, they will draft him. Rogers+White in GB = Elway+Davis in DEN.

Man I'd like to see my Dolphins get Vince Young

Joe88, are the Texans talking about they'll do with Carr? I'm assuming they won't keep him and eat his pending $8million bonus, but who would actually want the guy? A player who's still a project after 4 years won't get many quality offensive linemen or high draft choices.

Not trying to hijack the Bush thread...good for Reggie to go pro...but... Vince Young's Houston impact: longhorn tattoos, sales of anything burnt orange and the unification of competing Martin Luther King parades. Gotta love it.

are the Texans talking about they'll do with Carr? A straight-up trade for Joey Harrington. /ducks

The Dolphins, nor any team outside the Texans, will get their hands on VY. The Texans will trade him for a useless guy like himself, Joey Harrington is a good example, there are many of that sort. The acquisition will be a backup, good enough for the Texans, because they got VY. They'll obviously eat his $8 million bonus, which along with VY and the acquision, and some low draft pciks, will make McNair feel like the Einstein of the NFL. Not hat he is, but almost is.

I dont see the Texans passing on Bush, regardless of what Young did in the Rose Bowl. The whole year everybody was saying the Texans would take Bush, and I dont think it's going to change in one day like that.

posted by the don at 04:14 PM on January 12, 2006

Why would the Texans need Bush? Davis is not a bad RB his first 2 season he ran for over 1000 yrds. and almost ran for 1000 this year missing 5 games. + Andre Johnson was injured this season. The Texans are not a bad team. they were in most of the games they played. Injuries really hurt them a lot. The Colts only beat them by a last minute field goal. With a healthy Davis, Johnson, and VY the Texans could be one of the most improved team in the NFL next season.

With a healthy Davis, Johnson... Ah, the devil's in the details, Dallas.

posted by The_Black_Hand at 04:55 PM on January 12, 2006

With everybody healthy, VY, AND a good coach, they CAN be good. We'll have to see if the injuries end, and if so, if that can even work. The Texans are bad, and the sky is falling in Houston.

Why would they take a step backward with VY. It's obvious that he is going to take a while to mature into a decent pro level QB. Look how long it's taking Carr and he was more developed as a QB when he came out than VY is now. Drafting VY will only make for frustrated fans. Take Bush........ Davis sucks.

posted by vbgjr88 at 05:21 PM on January 12, 2006

Take Bush........ Davis sucks Has no one noticed that there is a big-time left tackle out of Virginia that the texans need? Bush is not a true durable runner, and Vince cant throw better than Vick

I say take take VY, just so you can get rid of that albatross/lemon Carr. Carr is the next Ryan Leaf.

Please leave either Young, Lienart, or Jay Cutler for us poor deprived Lions fans. Wait, even if Reggie Bush was available, the Lions would still go for the best reciever available. Of course, using that strategy would eventually get the Lions a reciever who can catch, I think...

The Texans should entertain trade offers. If they can get anything for the pick they should and take White with a later pick. Before they take White, they should look to their O-line (the positions they've ignored for the past few seasons) so they can keep their QB off his back. Also Davis isn't the problem, and he would benefit as well from Offensive line help (i.e. wouldn't have defenders in the backfield a high % of the time). Of course they can't defend very well themselves, so maybe look for defense, but definately need a left tackle.

Well i live in Tx and believe me the Texans will be under pressure to get VY (local kid). It doesn't matter Bush or Young they ain't going to have any blockers. As far as trade offers that sounds like the best route for them but with their luck they would get "sacked" (sorry Carr)haha...excuse me i lost my bearing there, and get the short end of the stick while someone else would get a potential all pro.

i think we should trade with new orleons who would draft vince and we get bush and a 2nd roung pick probnbally wont happen but watever i would be happy with either one of the guys as long as our coaching is good.

If the Texans don't trade down to pick up: a) A solid lineman b) Another receiver c) Whatever the hell else they can find they're bigger idiots than everyone in the league already thinks.

agree w/ previous comments: until they fix the o-line, it doesn't matter who the texans take. vy, bush, etc. will get killed. i think it's impressive what davis has been able to do, considering how bad that line is. trade down, get d'brickshaw ferguson from virginia and picks. bush can be effective in the NFL, but he has to be used w/ some creativity like he was at usc: in the slot, in the backfield, on punt returns. he's been likened to gale sayers and should be used with the same versatility in mind. i have some serious concerns about vy's effectiveness in the pros. at UT, his offense was completely geared around him and what he could do exceptionally (shotgun, zone-read, 8-15 yd accurate passing, the occasional long pass when WRs were being covered in man coverage). in a system designed to take advantage of his strengths, he flourished and was arguably the best player in college football. Here's the question: will any franchise in the nfl turn their organization upside-down to accomodate a rookie QB's strengths? or will they force-feed him into their coach's system, in spite of his unique talents? i suspect the latter (see jim mora jr trying to force-feed vick into a west coast offense, when going through passing progressions is the weakest part of his game). i hope someone does use VY the way he was meant to be used, but i sincerely doubt it.

The Lions have a chance at the field minus VY, Leinart, and Reggie Bush. They even have a chance at LenDale. I think they will draft VY because he's a local kid, but the problem will come when they try to find a misguided soul to take the next Ryan Leaf, Dave Carr. The Saints are the only team right now with no QB's at all. They have one they use, and he's a third stringer with the other 31 teams. Aaron Brooks has played his last game with the Saints. They could draft Leinart, trade nothing for Carr as backup, and keep the man they got as a third stringer/ emergency QB. However, the Texans will be ticked off at giving Carr for nada, not even little. I worried about the Texans search for a new coach. Somehow, I have a feeling they're gonna blow it, like how the Packers blew it today. They coulda, shoulda brought in Jim Haslett. He would've been great for LenDale and Rodgers. Young dude for young kids.

Dallas was right when he said davis was good they are gonna pick bush 1# but At 6'0 200 and being a rookie, he is prone to injuries. also being known as not a 20 touch back. bush is going to see half the touch they should split touches 50-50 reggie bush is going to be like larry johson (hopefully) i like him

posted by Midwaymonster at 09:16 PM on January 12, 2006

I honestly think the texans passing on bush would be like the the portland trailblazers passing on JORDAN for sam bowie.....Don't get me wrong Vince Young is a hell off a player but reminds everybody off that waste of space RON MEXICO. Reggie Bush is part Walter payton, gale sayers, barry sanders, and the hits of Jim Brown all rolled into one.

Joe88, has anything you've ever predicted come true?

posted by yerfatma at 07:13 AM on January 13, 2006

grrrlacher, thats a good analogy. Regardless of who the Texans take, they are not going to be a contender next year, and I think Bush is just too good to pass up. I love Vince Young, but Bush has more potential to be successful in the NFL. Midwaymonster said he hopes Bush turns out like Larry Johnson, and that could be how this turns out. The Chiefs didnt really "need" Johnson, granted Priest was hurt the year before, but to pick up a back with that much talent is going to be good for your team.

posted by the don at 05:44 PM on January 13, 2006

I agree with Midwaymonster. Bush will not be able to carry the whole load....... Did we forget how USC used him. Bush needed White to spell him. Whithout White, The huge O-Line, great receivers and a Heisman QB we would not be talking about Bush. Barry Sanders nor Gayle Sayers ever had a supporting cast like Bush has, in college or pros....... The media hype also boosted Bush. Remember last year when they were so high on this freshman called A.P. he was considered the best RB in College. Bush did not even get half of the votes that Peterson did. This year Peterson was not even in the running. Petersons team is rebuilding .
