Annika-Pretty Good For a Girl Satire

Comments

I shall now refer to Babe Didrikson Zaharias as "The Big Lady of Golf," for that is evidently who she is. This charming (charming!) article kept reminding me of this lovely ladylike lady.

"We do not allow hotlinking to this site", chico! BAM! the absolutely adorable doll of golf's lighter, gentler side -- this one's gonna have me laughing for some time. Thanks, Bill L.

Grrrrr. I checked the clickthrough and everything! For I know a lovely lady when I see one, and Miss Emily Howard (just like Annika!) is very definitely a lady, who does ladylike things, like attend operettas and golf from the ladies' tees and press flowers and wear dresses and such, oh yes!

Because that's what she is... she's a lady! Hilarious stuff (both from the Onion and from Little Britain) - and as with all good humour, made all the funnier by being only very slightly removed from the truth of some people's views.

Thats no lady...

"She's a man, man!"

Well, you have to admit, she does look a bit mannish.

Well, you have to admit, she does look a bit mannish. I suspect to most of you guys, any female athlete who's not a twirl gurl would look "a bit mannish", and apparently studies support this. A MTF transgendered person once told me that there's research showing that it takes three or four "female" cues -- high voice, wearing clothing associated with women, etc. -- to make up for one male/neutral "cue" and cause someone to identify a person as female rather than male. In other words, we tend to see people as male until proven otherwise. So much for looking "a bit mannish"; to paraphrase Simone de Beauvoir, when women look like human beings, we see them as looking like men.

She's a athalete! Whaddya want? They can't all look like Mary Kate Olsen, thank god. Not and drive 285 off the tee. I remember how shy Annika used to be, even after she reached the top of her sport, and I think it's very cool how she's come out of her shell and is able to do things like bring stunt-skirts to skins games and be so accessible to casual fans while still winning every other tournament she plays. That's really cool, and not at all required of a champion in any sport.

Also, what miz bat said.

I think the male cue on Annika is her massive biceps. She's huge. Michelle Wie is not mannish, but still crushes the ball. Proof that the golf swing is more timing and technique than brute force.

It's been my observation over the years that the guys who dis female athletes tend to be the weaker, introverted non-achievers. Real men tend to take it all in stride and can give credit where credit's due.

Yeah okay, drevl... Your observation is wishful thinking at best...

I suspect to most of you guys, any female athlete who's not a twirl gurl would look "a bit mannish", and apparently studies support this. Sorry, LBB, cannot agree with this. When the USA Women's soccer team was coming to mainstream media prominence in the late '90s I found quite a few of the players hot. And Katerina Witt, lots of top-level volleyball players, more than a few from the WNBA, plenty of swimmers, a bunch of tennis players.

Oh, how I long for the days of the East German lady athletes.

l_b_b, it was a line from Austin Powers. Nothing more. Sheesh.

TBH, gotcha -- sorry, didn't get the reference. I saw about half of the first movie and that was it. I liked Dr. Evil though. (considering myself sheeshed)

Annika pretty good for a girl I think she is pretty good period.

What about Aunt Flo?

"I hear their periods attract bears."

See, that was it...I forgot to use quotation marks.
