Marlins Give Away Vuvuzela-Like Horns: The Florida Marlins are giving away 15,000 vuvuzela-like air horns to fans at Saturday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. "They're not as buzzing as vuvuzelas, but they're loud," said team exec Sean Flynn.

Why?

I don't think it will be that bad, even if all fifteen people in attendance are blowing them at the same time.

Oh, this is hilarious. I had forgotten about this before I turned the game on just now. They actually make the vuvuzela sound pretty well, and it's even funnier when they play the horns in rhythm to organ cheer-thingys and such. Hilarious. Well done, Marlins.

Why?

Something -- anything -- to sell tickets, I'm guessing.

I am currently watching the game on MLB Network and they are extremely annoying. I have gotten to the point that I can block them out during the World Cup games, but for some reason I can not do the same with these. I think it is because the WC versions sounds like a constant buzz and this is more of an up and down buzz. Although having when they are playing the organ music, it sounds like the people are just following along with the organ.

I was watching the game, then went online to check if there was a kazoo giveaway. I know it's been 20 years now, but see what happens when you put a team in South Florida? It's turned into a loony bin.

Although it'd be interesting to hear them follow "Hava Nagila."

This better not become a trend for professional sports or I'll stay home from games and watch with the sound turned off. It's the only way I acn watch the World Soccer games. Those horns are fucking annoying.

I watched some of the Marlins game and thought the horns were amusing. I have begun to enjoy them at the World Cup as well. God help me.

Idea for Bud Selig: make next year's MLB All-Star game a nostalgic all-Vuvu return to the Metrodome.

No more fitting way to relive the decibelic potential of the Dome, and to salute another of our revered human vuvuzelas, the man for whom the Dome is named, Hubert H. Humphrey.

Oh, yes, blow the roof off with Vuvu power!

Do the Marlins even draw 15,000 or is this a multi game promotion?

Well, they drew 23,242 last night. And the fans may have loved it, but the players on the field hated it, and it may have had a hand in costing the Marlins the win. Unfortunate.
