CD Swap 2010: So.......anyone interested this year? Also, has anyone heard from Jamey since his last update?

I'm interested, even though some people out there have failed to meet their reciprocal obligations in the past.

You know who you are.

I might be into this again.

Quite enjoyed it last year, so I'm game again.

I managed to get hold of a CD with the classic 'Die Yuppie Die' by Painters and Dockers on it. So some of you might be getting that.

Well, that's four so far including me. I'm up for another year of course. So that makes for at least one small group.

How about we make a sign up deadline of Feb 15th, (One month after Lockerroom post), after which the groups will be determined and mailing deadlines will be set.

Owlhouse, NoMich and boredom_08 - if you're in for sure, feel free to get a leg up on the dozens (please?) of members that will sign up within the next few weeks. I'm pretty sure I have all your info from last year saved somewhere in this computer. So let me know if you have moved.

I'd be down for it. I got some great music from the last one.

I have very narrow tastes in music and based on past swaps not too excited to get from others. However if any of you are interested in my Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band 'We Rock Live' anthology I can post somewhere for d/l.

I'm in. My musical inspiration this year was old school reggae, so I'm thinking that's what I'm gonna do.

But I'm open to suggestions.

Yeah, fuck those assholes.

Oh, wait...

Okay, for those interested I will need your mailing address. (NoMich, Owlhouse, boredom_08 and YYM, that includes you too, I do not have last years info saved as previously stated.)

Please email me at the addy posted in my profile. Include:

Your name, your Spofi alias and your complete mailing address.

(Also, as is noted each year, there may be a little extra postage needed for some members, as this is a global website. If you cannot (or don't want to) pay for the extra postage, please let me know in the email so I can group accordingly.)

I have received mailing addys for owlhouse, cjets, and boredom_08 so far.

Go ahead and start working on your tracks!!

A thought, Spofi member folkways has been very much involved in the CD Swap in years past. This year, since he appears to not have an internet connection available, I thought some (or all) of us could burn an extra copy of our mixes and send them his way. What do you guys think?

posted by BoKnows at 11:50 PM on January 21, 2010

I just sent my shipping details. Ok, an extra copy for folkways.

posted by yzelda4045 at 09:15 AM on January 22, 2010

I'll burn an extra for Folkways as well. And a CD too.

Info received for YYM and yzelda4045.

Now to find the 12 minute remix of "Pants on the Ground" featuring Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. You're all going to love it.

I did one for Folky Boy last year, which I think he appreciated. I'm more than happy to do another one, too.

Well, I'll send each of you Folkways mailing addy (hope it's current), and if you want to oblige, you can.

It would be great to get at least a few more participants this year. Dead media or not, getting a new CD and sharing your favorites is still fun. The cds certainly make my daily commute more enjoyable.

I'm guessing next year we could just do a digital download swap. A DDswap as it were. Although, some people may be disappointed in the music, as they were expecting a mythical figurine or 12 sided dice. Oh well, we can clear all that up in due time.

Good point. You've convinced me to jump in because of I'm sick and tired of Kelly Clarkson and espen radio on my one hour commute. Plus, I'm 1/2 on prior CD commitments so I need to get my save percentage up.

Thanks Mrfrisby, info received. For those keeping score, that is seven including myself. One more would be great to even things out, but 13 more would be ideal in order to change things up a bit.

Out of 17,000+ members, I'm a little surprised at the lack of participants. I realize most of those 17,000 are inactive or banned, but there are quite a few regulars I'd love to see included. Keep in mind that there really are no requirements here. No specific genres, nor CD length. Cover art is not necessary. You would be completely free to do whatever you want, pack them in some manila envelopes and spend a few bucks at the post office. You can even have your CDs burning while perusing this site. You could be done in an hour.

Last year, I sent a two-disc set. The first was a sort of history of hip hop, including everything from funk to rap and featured groups like The Beastie Boys, Michael Jackson, and Eerth Wind and Fire. The second was a technotronic/electronica/club rave mix. Two years ago, I just did a one-disc favorites kind of thing. I have received everything under the sun and continue to listen to them to this day.

(terrapin - your CDs from the 2008 swap were magnificent and they still are very much in rotation and haven't left my daily vehicle.)

I hope more of you decide to join.

Again, the deadline for signing up is Feb 15th!!!!

posted by BoKnows at 11:19 PM on January 28, 2010

Ok, I'll join in the fun this year.

By the way, the low numbers might be due to people not knowing about or visiting the Locker Room. I hardly ever come here, but I happened to find my way over today.

posted by bender at 01:21 PM on February 12, 2010

Cool, thanks bender....info received. That gives us 2 groups of four with the Folkways option.

Sign up deadline in just a couple days!
