Comments with Profanity: There's no blanket rule against profanity on SportsFilter, but we've moderated the site to avoid becoming a community where people routinely use phrases like "piece of shit racist anti-fan fuckbag motherfuckers." Though you may be able to wield such a phrase with style, humor and panache, experience shows that most people who follow your lead will just be abusive dolts.

pieceofshitracistanti-fanfuckbagmotherfuckers will be my sockpuppet name over a Metafilter. Thanks.

I've been trying to watch my language around here for some time now. Overall, I think I've been pretty goddamn motherfucking successful.

pieceofshitracistanti-fanfuckbagmotherfuckers2 will have to do, then.

Stranger: Do you have to use so many cuss words?

The Dude: Fuck's that supposed to mean?

What's the big deal? It doesn't hurt anybody. Fuck-fuckety-fuck-fuck-fuck.

For some reason, there is an inverse relationship between profanity and civility in discussions. This isn't always the case, but it trends to be true.

Sorry.

We have a couple of folks who struggle to get through an entire post without use of some profanity, but for the most part it doesn't seem to be a problem here, unless I'm not hanging out in the right threads.

Thanks, Dirigibleman. I wish we could take "piece of shit racist anti-fan fuckbag motherfuckers" in the spirit in which it was intended. It's a fuckin' shame we can't.

This policy is total bullshit. Does this mean we can't say asshat?

Crap.

Well I'm fucked. Can you start moderating the fucking morons out too?

A well-placed profanity is a valuable asset. Glad there's no blanket rule.

What about this? It's almost like asshat. It's got some of the same letters and kinda sounds like it.

I'm gettin' pissed! Time to bitch-jack a random Boise State player!

THX, you're an asset to Spofi! And I mean that.

But then again, so am I.

I know a site that has a robo-naughty-words-moderator, that stars out anything that it thinks is a naughty word. This leads to "ass" being elided in many situations where there's nothing naughty about it, leading people on this site to use terms like "jackdonkey". I kid you not.

Bypassing a swear filter on another site I frequent is enough to earn a 3 day ban. 2nd offense is worse and a certain point accumulation will earn you a Ban On Site to your IP addy. Some fucked up shit I tell you.

Unfortunately, I read this after using "shithead" in the Redskins team name thread...who is the shithead now, huh?
