Bug: Spofi eats comments Apparently if a comment is considered "too long" (I'm guessing), Spofi simply trashes it without warning or option for recovery.

Comments

Is there any update on the progress of the server move?

It seems as if not much has changed in a while.

If a comment is longer than 4,000 characters, you should have seen an error message that let you hit the Back button and correct it.

Gary's out of the country, so I've been concentrating on moderating the site. When he's back I'll be back to coding.

Awesome. I appreciate the work you've done for the site, I'm sure many SpoFites do as well.

I certainly do.

A question for you, rcade. Are we going to have the "new comment" feature returned?

On another topic, am I the only one noticing an influx of trolls?

It's not a bug. It's a feature.

Alas, didn't happen that way. FF3.0.1.

On another topic, am I the only one noticing an influx of trolls?

Nope. It's fall, but I was hoping this year would be different because of the new anti-troll features.

um, what's a troll?

If you're writing more than 4,000 characters on SpoFi, and you don't know who the troll is, then it's you.

What about my 4,000 page anti-Yankee opus set to the tune of The Turner Diaries? Is that trolling or art?

Or like I tried to say once, when is Spofi going to be like it was in the before times?

I liked it with all the bells and whistles like the buttons and easier to read comments. But maybe I'm the only one.

(back to lurking)

THX, where the hell have you been?

And, I echo your comment on the bells, whistles, and all that jazz.

It's called Tuesday afternoon here at SpoFi.

I've been taking care of my wife, Tommy, and just haven't had the time to really get involved much. And in all honesty, I am not a fan of the site's "new look". I do come and read the articles and comments (just like Penthouse!) but I just sort of miss the really great user-friendly conveniences that the old ways had. There is a contingent of members here who are very computer literate, of which I am not one. In other words, I can't make it go the way I like. Sort of like I can drive a car but don't ask me to fix the transmission.

I'll just keep waiting to see how things turn out.

I'm sorry, THX, I didn't realize your wife was ill(or if you had told us, I'd forgotten). My thoughts are with you.

Things do seem to be getting better here bit by bit.
As rcade said, when Gary gets back to the U.S.A., he's going to get back to work on the coding on the site. It is a lot of work I'm sure. I'm not particularly computer savvy either, and it can get frustrating. Your contributions to the site are valued and we miss having you around.

Wow! If you can't get it said in 4,000 characters...(not directed at you personally, Ms. Bat)

Good luck to you, THX. You are missed.

Not taken personally. If you're responding to someone who wrote an opus, the quotes will put you over the top pretty quick.

I hope all is going well THX, you are missed. I hope everything is going good for Mrs. 1138

Thanks for the well wishes. Mrs THX will be OK. She is recovering from a mastectomy and now we (well, her) are going to go through a whole bunch of radiation treament. I've missed coming here and saying things that don't make sense.

How about for old times sake we start a Barry Bonds thread?

Well as much as we have missed you and wish the Mrs all the best... No to the Barry Bonds thread

and if she ends up with mouth or throat pain due to the radiation my friend (who is on year 5 recovery wise) recommends pearl drops (ask her doctor).

Hope the wife has a speedy recovery, THX.

Yes, lbb, some members can be quite loquacious.

Is it possible to get back to the point where we don't have to sign in every time we come to the site?

Hang in there THX, and Mrs. THX; it's been almost three years exactly since my wife finished her chemo and radiation, and her hair just now started growing back normally; when she was diagnosed, her hair was mostly straight; when it started to grow back, it was locked into tight little curls like a perm. Weirdest damn thing.

Cancer sucks, and so does being the caretaker of a loved one with cancer, but this too, shall pass. It's a lot of pain and misery, followed by a score of little victories, as things return to normal.

Good luck and Godspeed to you both.

Sorry to get all personal in public, everybody, but THX doesn't have an email listed, and I wanted to pass on some encouragement.

And, I'm stoned.
