SpoFi Boston meetup this weekend? Either the Pats game or Hot Stove Cool Music? Our motto: "Isn't it about time for another A-Rod post?"

Hot Stove Cool Music sold out, sadly. Already checked.

Oh, thanks for the link. Here I was going to sleep happily tonight when I could be pondering this: "The Fabulous Penetrations featuring Peter Gammons"

Boo, sold out. Oh well. Sadly, I actually was more interested in seeing Kay Hanley than I was in seeing Theo Epstein. My shame is public now.

posted by Bryant at 04:32 PM on January 07, 2004

I wanted to go to it too. Apparently Trauser (Theo Epstein's band) does a lot of Pearl Jam songs.

not cool. can you not link to goatse.cx like that? I'd hate to see someone half paying attention to their status bar actually click that at work.

Don't you get it jg? That was funny on /. 3 years ago. Why wouldn't it still be a riot? Either way, tubgirl's way more up-to-date and even that's old. Somewhere out there, kids are just being born who will do even more disgusting things in front of a camera someday.

Which one was the fat one, again?

posted by hincandenza at 10:41 PM on January 07, 2004

What about a Seattle spofi hookup? Except the only other Spofiteaner from Seattle that I'm aware is vito90, whom I've already met. :)

posted by hincandenza at 10:42 PM on January 07, 2004

Ahem. Bellingham (Washington) is in the house. And I haven't met either of y'all.

Which one was the fat one, again? i think they were both kind of frumpy.

posted by jerseygirl at 07:54 AM on January 08, 2004

maybe towards the late spring/early summer we can have a boston spofi meet up or something. when the temperature outside is fit for human occupation. well i am off to warm up my car, put on 16 layers of clothing and wrap my head in a scarf. good old weatherbug is reading a balmy 10 degrees now. 39 days until pitchers and catchers report...

no way, lacey was a babe.

posted by garfield at 09:01 AM on January 08, 2004

Yeah she wasn't too bad. Hm. HEY! Epstein from Welcome Back Kotter was on Cagney and Lacey!

I wasn't implying frumpiness. Just some kickass perceptive cop-like skillz boyyyyyy! Sorry, was channeling Tim Hardaway there. Or was it Flavor flav?
Yeaaaah, Boiyyyyyyyy!!!

oh my god, he has a viking hat on.

posted by jerseygirl at 11:53 AM on January 08, 2004

oh my god, he has a viking hat on. but the oversized clock on a chain is okay?

posted by lilnemo at 12:21 PM on January 08, 2004

it's flava flav, i expected the clock.

posted by jerseygirl at 12:33 PM on January 08, 2004

Don't be playa-hatin' on the Flav. Dude was waaaaay ahead of his time.

posted by rocketman at 12:54 PM on January 08, 2004

did someone say flava flav clock?

posted by goddam at 12:55 PM on January 08, 2004

woah.

posted by lilnemo at 01:20 PM on January 08, 2004

If the alarm for that clock was him shouting "YEAAAAA BOYYYYY!", I would SO buy that for one of my friends. Also, it would have to be about $50 cheaper. Man, these lockerroom threads just go completely off the rails...

posted by grum@work at 02:03 PM on January 08, 2004

grum, click on the little square on the far right (next to "click to hear flavor flav wake you up")

posted by goddam at 02:09 PM on January 08, 2004

"Get up, a get get down!" oh yeah, i'd throw that thing against a wall.

posted by jerseygirl at 02:29 PM on January 08, 2004

"Get up, a get get down!" Classic Flav. I'd prefer if he did something unique and original just for the clocks. Something like: Get up Beeyotch!

posted by lilnemo at 02:47 PM on January 08, 2004

Oh.My.God. If my fat tax return comes this week, I am SOOOOO ordering this. But how the hell is $85 the clearance price?!?

Since we've devolved, I gotta brag about my Rolling Stones bootleg finds lately. You will never know the good life until you hear a studio outtake of Keith singing "Gimme Shelter." Screw Clapton, Richards is god! Usenet rules your face. I mean, where else are you going to find The Beatles' "The Twickenham Sessions"?

I got a letter from the government the other day. I opened it and read it, it said they were suckers.

You know, on the page with the Flava Flav clocks ... you can kinda mix your own stuff with the four sampled Flava pieces. I like to mix the "Bass fo' yo face!" with the classic "Yeeeeeaaahhhh, boooiiiiiii!" My staff thinks I'm nuts, though.

posted by wfrazerjr at 07:18 PM on January 09, 2004

You guys are starting to remind me of the guys in Office Space when they listen to gangsta rap and dance. Damn it feels good to be a gangster.

geto boys are the greatest, jg. why do all your posted pics look like X's to me? are you trying to tell me something? On another note, the quote fiestas for the last week have come courtesy of flava flav and eddie izzard. Now there's a supergroup I'd pay to see. "I say, that's an awfully large clock you have hanging there!" "Yeeeeeeeeeeeeah, boiiiiiiiiiiii... uh... girrrrrrrrrrl... uh..."

At first, I thought he IMDB might have a method of blocking "hotlinking", which is essentially what JG is doing (putting the picture in her comment, but making IMDB carry the bandwidth load). So I'll give it a try myself: In preview it works, even when I add in the height and width (shrinking it by 50%) and border tags(removing them) and then make it a link to itself. In fact, JG's picture comes back as well! If it fails on "post", then there is something going on during the display of the regular web page (but not in preview mode) that is smashing these picture links.

posted by grum@work at 11:40 AM on January 10, 2004

And now both pictures work (for now).

posted by grum@work at 11:40 AM on January 10, 2004

Not for me grum.

posted by billsaysthis at 03:09 PM on January 10, 2004

And now they don't work again. This is very weird.

posted by grum@work at 03:52 PM on January 10, 2004

Yah, it looks like IMDB is definitely blocking any hotlinks like this now.

I ended up going to Hot Stove Cool Music last night afterall. Good time for charity. Saw some ball players. Saw some good bands. Took some pictures. Gammon's band was actually really good. Scott Spiezio's band is pretty good (did an Alice in Chains cover well). Jack McDowell's wasn't my cup of tea. The lead singer of Theo Epstein's band is awful. Instrumentally, the band was great, vocally... bleh.
