Fantasy Hockey anyone?: Yahoo! has opened registration for hockey leagues a couple of days ago. Who will start a SpoFi league? Not me, since I'm taking a break from fantasy sports this winter. But SpoFi still needs to see another edition of the battle royale between Weedy and grum (and new contenders) for fantasy hockey supremacy.

I ran it the last couple of years. I'm fine with setting it up again. I was going to post something next week, after training camps opened. It seemed silly to jump the gun.

Usually there's a long discussion about when it's best for everyone to hold the draft. You (meaning all interested SpoFites) could start arguing now.

Can't wait to underwhelm the competition

I can do the head to head league.

Maybe I should quit now before I slip any further. 1st 1st 2nd 3rd I don't want to be like Jeremy Roenick and hang on well past my prime.

Well, should I set it up, then? Okay, here we go: Yahoo has changed it so we now have our own permanent page, which we can apparently reuse from season to season. [ League ID: 40206, Password: grapes ] You all can go on and sign up now. I'll post something more formal looking in a few days. I set the live draft for Friday, September 21, at 6:30pm EDT (3:30pm PDT, 8:30am Saturday morning in Melbourne). The late afternoon/early evening thing seems to have worked best (meaning, everyone is equally inconvenienced) in past years, so I stuck with it. And I imported the same stat categories from last year, so if we wanted to change them, now's the time to start that discussion.

i'll be in the Bronx by 6:30 on 9/21 (extra ticket up for grabs too if anyone is interested). so i suppose i'm at the mercy of auto-draft this year.

Oh yeah, the stat categories, those always foster discussion too. It's a shame Samsonov14 isn't here to profess his usual "Fucking Shooting %."

Weren't there a couple of stat categories that caused discussion last season? I seem to recall some general disgruntlement, but I can't remember any of the specifics. As for the time, it's a lot easier for me to be inconvenienced on Saturday morning than Friday evening. That is all. And what the hell is up with the Brazilian Women's National Soccer Team? Did nobody tell these girls that the jheri curl look went out years ago? Yes, I'm watching the Women's World Cup. You got a problem with that?

Blades of Glory is gonna straight up murder your asses. And, after registering and checking out the settings, I recall it was SHP, GWG, and GAA that were being discussed as candidates for elimination.

I am in, and this year I am not giving up my seat for anybody. You will have to pry it from my cold dead fingers.

Is it more or less work than Fantasy Baseball?

I'm in and looking forward to some fantastic competition. Thanks Chico for stepping up again and I'm looking forward to all those great trade rejection emails once again. (qbert has the best trade rejection emails) I like the current settings from last year and hope they remain unchanged. Draft day as currently set is OK with me but if it's more convenient for others any time will do. That is all........

Oh. I still haven't heard a good argument for the exclusion of Shut Outs in the goalie stats for this league. I'm all for eliminating GAA if Shut Outs are included. IMHO shut outs are a great indicator of a teams D and I feel it should be reflected in a Roto League Points Scoring System. It also provides entertaining anticipation as I watch the final minutes of a goalie performance and hope for the shut out. My further 2 cents.

Ahhh, a favorite time of year. However, y'all have a great shot this year, since on Sept. 21, I have an engagement and will have to autodraft. Now... a name.... a name....

I'm in. 40 Years Futile in honour of the local team's futility and mine own with fantasy leagues (save for some pick'ems). Too bad I don't use my old username anymore, mostly because of the Flickr forced yahoo-id BS, so I can't see my old stats. Maybe it's for the best.

i'm in as Grumbait. i wasn't gonna use it for the hockey league, but grum's message that we all suck has forced my hand.

So, is the league filled up with returners...or is there an opening for rooks? I don't think that I was in this one last year...

The Robin Goodfellows are ready to be giving you the business. We approve of any date that is bad for Weedy and Grum.
