Great read. I love the Olerud one, even if it is an urban legend. I have the prospect card for the player who got traded for Rickey Henderson in 1993. Mint condition. I'm open to offers!

That is hysterical. My favorite: 17) Rickey was asked if he had the Garth Brooks album with Friends in Low Places and Henderson said, "Rickey doesn't have albums. Rickey has CDs."

Baseball needs more "characters" in it like Rickey. His talking to the bat wasn't so strange though. I remember Mark "The Bird" Fidrych talking to the ball before each pitch.

Rickey Henderson needs his own reality tv show. I have never been more sure of anything in my life. He's among the funniest and most bizarre personalities not only in baseball but in the world.

My father used to tell me stories about when Rickey played for the Jersey City Generals in Roosevelt Stadium in the 70's and how he was like "Dat Dude" he would command the fans to cheer his name he would do the snatch catch. He was basically always Rickey its not like he one day mad a million dollars and started talking crazy.. He was always that day. That was a great post xmutex I miss the guy old leather face as we call him in Jersey.

We got to know Rickey while he was with the Texas Rangers and learned to really love Rickey. Hell Rickey loves Rickey so much that you have to love somebody so well loved.

These are priceless. Rickey is so aloof and such a hot dog, it's easy to see how these stories come about. It's also easy to overlook in all this that we're talking about the most talented and dynamic baseball player of the last 30 years (I'm totally on board with the writer on this point). He and Ruth actually share quite a few eccentricities, one of them an enduring, unquenchable love for baseball. I mean, the guy has been playing minor league ball for how long? He has an ego, sure, but I really think if we called him with a pickup game right now he would come. I totally admire the guy.

fenriq likes Rickey. In fact, fenriq likes Rickey alot and knows that Rickey could still totally smoke fenriq in a footrace of just about any length. But fenriq's okay with that, he's a biker. But fenriq also respects the hell out of Rickey.
