Beckett to Rangers in 4 player trade: this deal, while not finalized, looks like it will go through sending josh beckett, mike lowell to the rangers for hank blalock and a prospect. with a lackluster free agent market this could be the start of teams looking towards trading to get better and it most definatly is the start of yet another marlin firesale with peirre and lo duca on trading block

"[T]he paper says the Rangers are reluctant to include a pitcher in the deal." Weird. They have little pitching to begin with and they're taking on Mike Lowell's contract; can't imagine why they'd balk at giving up a top pitching prospect. Why don't they include Chan Ho Park? most definatly is the start of yet another marlin firesale with peirre and lo duca on trading block I'm not sure I see that. Pierre is decent, but Lo Duca is probably past prime. If they could move them for some younger, cheaper talent and thus afford another decent player, that's no firesale. Of course, given the Marlins owner's history, you may be right.

Losing Blalock at age 25 would hurt, but the Rangers have never had a problem finding hitting. I like the idea of picking up a pitcher as good as Beckett who already knows how to play and win in the heat. As a longtime Rangers fan, I've always blamed it for a lot of previously good pitchers coming to Texas and wilting.

I agree with the pierre and lo duca assessments but do you think delgado will return with the marlins? I personally don't see him being back for another year. hopefully for the sake of marlins fans they keep willis and cabrera.

I'm not so sure Beckett would be the savior the Rangers think they're getting. He's injury prone, and his career road ERA is 3.83, almost 3/4 of a run higher than his home ERA (3.14). He's no Chan Ho Park, but I can see why Texas may be reluctant to give up a pitcher in addition to Blalock.

Woah! The Rangers are being asked to give up Danks or Diamond as part of the deal? That's nuts! I'd balk at that deal too.

I'm not sure that Beckett is any answer for what the Rangers need .He'll give up more runs than Blaylock can provide.and that is when he is healthy. As for getting rid of Juan Pierre, the entire Florida offence starts with him,and as a loyal Cubbies fan,I would GLADLY give them Corey Patterson for Pierre

Last I heard, Beckett might be going to the Sox!

Supposedly the Sox are talking to the Marlines about Beckett as well. The Marlins want to unload Delgado, but no one wants his contract.

Woah! The Rangers are being asked to give up Danks or Diamond as part of the deal? That's nuts! I'd balk at that deal too. Last report I read in the Dallas Morning News said that the Rangers are trying to rope another team into the loop to try to avoid having to add Danks or Diamond. They're talking of offering up Adrian Gonzalez to a third party for an alternate prospect. Regardless of the outcome of this trade, it'll be interesting to see if Hank can bounce back from a relatively lackluster season.

The Marlins want to unload Delgado, but no one wants his contract. As a Blue Jays fan, I'm left scratching my head about this. Delgado had pretty damn good year in 2005, so why do the Marlins want to dump him? If it's contract size (years or salary), do I have to remind them that they signed him less than one year ago? What's the difference between then and now with regards to his contract? Regardless of the outcome of this trade, it'll be interesting to see if Hank can bounce back from a relatively lackluster season. I did a check on his "best comparison" for his career. Overall and for each of his 3 seasons, his best comparison was Scott Rolen. I know that it doesn't necessarily mean anything, but...
