CFL Pick 'Em, Final Standings: No surprises here. Congratulations to MrFrisby and apoch.

Pretty entertaining week for the last one of the season. The only blowout occurred in a meaningful game, as Toronto put the screws to Saskatchewan to take first place, making Winnipeg's gutsy win over Montreal a moot point. Edmonton and Hamilton gave us an entertaining battle of the basement, and Calgary makes B.C. work for its one-point victory in the late-nighter.

Ying Yang Mafia did not nail every game, which means that MrFrisby's first place finish is his and his alone. His commanding thirteen-point lead is the biggest margin of victory in the short history of the chicobangs Memorial CFL Regular Season Pick 'Em. Congratulations, MrFrisby!

At the other end of the standings, despite an absentee gspm making it close at the end, apoch hangs on to win this season's Costanza. Well played, well played indeed!

Thanks to everyone for another great season. I'll be posting the playoffs pick 'em within the next couple of days; hopefully I'll see all of you there!

Thank you Dr. J for running the pool. I'd like to thank everyone else who made this possible: My parents for giving birth to me, my brothers and sisters for teaching me how to deal with ridicule. I'd also like to thank the Edmonton Eskimos and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for pulling defeat out the jaws of victory each and every time I picked them to win. Without you, this wouldn't have been possible. Thank you and congratulations to MrFrisby, you truly are a better, smatter mouse. Thank you for not plummetting like you threatened to do. Last but not least, my thanks to Jason Alexander for portraying the only kind of loser who could trump my historic feat: Two Costanzas in one week.

The price of picking the opposite of Mr. Frisby...

Comment icon posted by Ying Yang Mafia at 2:06 PM CDT on November 5

Congratulations, YYM, on having the testicular fortitude to pick the exact opposite. Unfortunately that means you now only have half a silver medal. Congrats to Apoch for a well earned Costanza.

First of all, I would like to thank...ah fuck it.
*crumbles acceptance speech and throws it at TBH.*
I straight up murdered your asses! Now where's my banner? I was told that I would get a banner.

Seriously though, thanks again Doc for putting this together, you are a gentleman and a scholar. Oh, and...

His commanding thirteen sixteen-point lead is the biggest margin of victory in the short history of the chicobangs Memorial CFL Regular Season Pick 'Em.

There, fixed that for ya ;)

So close to T4, and yet so far away.

TBH, if Weedy was still playing, I'm sure you and he would've shared a T6, with two straws.

I'd like to thank you all for putting up with my Arcanadiana all season. Apologies to anyone I've offended. The only excuse is that I think I'm still getting over Carrie.

Props to Dr J for another sterling effort. Word to Mr Frisby for absolutely blitzing the rest of the field. And commiserations to apoch for an unwanted double.

Equal second isn't really a bad result, considering (a) I never saw a single play of CFL all season (b) didn't consult news, official or betting websites and (c) never picked Hamilton on principle.

Same here. I feel slightly ashamed since I could have watched several games on CBC but did not.

Comment icon posted by Ying Yang Mafia at 6:15 PM CDT on November 5

I purposefully did not watch that much this year. I figured that if I saw a team play really well one week that it would leave a lasting impression and I might be influenced to pick them more often than not. I never even looked at the standings. The only thing I went by was the information given at the beginning of each thread, and that was just how each team did the week before.

How in the heck do you watch CFL games in Kentucky?

Comment icon posted by NoMich at 8:16 PM CDT on November 5

With a really good pair of binoculars?

Comment icon posted by DrJohnEvans at 9:05 PM CDT on November 5

I guess, but then Fritsy would have to provide his own play by play and color commentary. And believe you me, that guy ain't very good in the booth. I mean, he talks about anything *except* the game. His color commentary is merely name-dropping from his days when he played the game. Then he is constantly breaking away from the action to have mundane interviews with players' cousins and dogs and shit. Uh wait...that's ESPN. Nevermind!

MrFrisby ... well done! apoch, thanks for takin' the Costanza torch in this one for me.

Playoffs could be interesting. Our bonus picks might have to include things like:
- how many times the refs will screw up the video replay
- who Wally Buono will start at QB
- number of cheesy PSAs by Mark Cohon in a televised game
- whether or not one of those CFLers are ever gonna yank the ball on the WarAmps kid for the Charlie Brown kick
- if Gibson's Finest will prove themselves as a worthy sponsor for the Grey Cup tailgate party and actually have product on hand.
- how many BC Lions will maximize the use of their porn-'stache contest in the adult film industry
- how many times the NFL in Toronto will be discussed (and/or CFL (re)expansion back into Ottawa or elsewhere)

Or not. Fun times this season, all! Cheers!

I pay an extra $5 (US) per month to Dish Network to get the sports package. Unlike the NHL, MLB, and NFL, the CFL does not blackout games.

Comment icon posted by MrFrisby at 10:26 PM CDT on November 5

Unless you live in Vancouver—at least, the Lions blacked out home games until fairly recently, IIRC.

Also, NoMich, ESPN's commentators would choke if they ever had to do a CFL game. With the 20-second play clock, only one timeout per half, and no fair catch, there's just too much football—not enough time for talking!

Comment icon posted by DrJohnEvans at 10:58 PM CDT on November 5

Since when has football ever gotten in the way of them talking?

That's it? Man, I'm going to have to check with TimeWarner to see if they have a CFL package. (I live in a mini forest, so satellite is out of the question.)

Comment icon posted by NoMich at 7:12 AM CDT on November 6

I should clarify that it is not a CFL package, it is a regional sports package. You probably already have a channel for your local sports, well the regional sports package gives you everybody else's local sports channel (FSN Detroit, FSN Northwest, Altitude, NESN, etc.)

Major sports will be blacked out of course, but you could still watch the Devils pre-game and post-game shows if you were so inclined. There is also a fair amount college hockey too.

Ah, I see now. Thanks for the clarification, Jersey's One-time Top Skateboarder.

My apologies for being here and there. I think I missed about 4 weeks in total? Maybe 5? A bit more attention might have put me in the pack. But Frisby was far and away the top picker. Congrats.

You know gspm, the revelation that you skipped four weeks makes me feel so much better about losing to you.
