Dice-K's Armaments: at the beginning of the season, the Boston Globe provides a nice look at all of Daisuke Matsuzaka's pitches. What are other teams' hometown papers offering today?

Some amateur shots of the man in action before he gave up a shot to Mr. Politeness. On Opening Day Night, hope springs eternal.

Column from the Detroit News on whether the Tigers can get back to the World Series.

I am not knowlegeable on baseball (my dad was a Cincy fan during that team's golden years, that is all that I know about baseball). But did you notice Matsuzaka's mechanics? He transitions well from the start of the throw through to the finish. If only young would be quarterbacks can only be taught to master that type of body control.

This guy is in danger of hitting the apex of the too much hype machine. What if he's good but gives up 30 homers this year? 4 ERA? Will Boston fans get on him? Because that's good - but the stuff I'm hearing is starting to sound like he's the second coming of Cy Young. I'm not buying it yet. There are a lot of hitters in this crazy league. My hometown newspapers are predictably over-looking the goodness that is the Jays masher line-up and focusing on the nitpicky small stuff like no depth in the rotation, a suspect middle bullpen and our terrible infield defense. Pah. Spoilsports.

Is anyone looking for clutch hitters?

My hometown newspapers are predictably over-looking the goodness that is the Jays masher line-up and focusing on the NHL playoffs race? I think I'm one of the remaining ten baseball fans in Montreal.

I thought this was an April's Fools joke.

It is. It's just the joke is on them.

Nice Opening Day write up by Dan Holmes at the Hall of Fame. My local papers are all talking about Carl Pavano. I'm not going to open him to ridicule here. As it is, he's likely to get plenty of that from fifty-some-odd thousand people today. On edit: well, I guess that's moot now. Thanks, HATER.

I don't have a link, but the Cubbies were just sold to a billionaire mogul in Chicago. The transition won't take place until '08. That is a good distraction from the 5-1 pounding they took this afternoon at the hands of Cincy.

I haven't seen my home-town paper today, but the USA Today focused a lot on Soriano, and if he could help get them to championship form. With that contract, and the fact that it was a reason why the holy of holies (the outfield wall) was desecrated with advertising billboards, he better.

I loved that link yerfatma, that was great. SHows just how subjective of an idea a "clutch" player is.
