Bill Cowher : may end up with the Dolphins. "Cowher won't coach anywhere in 2007, but he's not precluded from taking a consultant's job with a team this year, maybe with an eye on coaching in the future," Peter King said on NBC's pre-game show.

This rumor seems pretty dubious to me. Cowher quits the Steelers to be closer to his family in North Carolina but takes a job with Miami? I can't recall a coach of his caliber who quit after a long run and didn't get away from it all for at least a year.

I agree. The rumor would be more believable if the consultant job was with the Panthers or NC based college.

well as I posted in the other cowher thread, the apparantly well founded rumor is that Cowher did not quit to be with his family. In fact the "family" excuse doesn't make any since at all, since if that were the reason he was quitting, he would be saying he "retired". There is no indication by him or his agent that he is leaving football...just that he was leaving the Steelers. After all, if he was leaving "to be with his family" why are all indications pointing that he will coach again in 2008?

Anyways, to get back to my point, he apparantly felt "slighted" by a comment made by Art II after the SB win (Cowher asked for a 5 year, 8-10 mil...Steelers offered 3 year for 6 mil). When the haggling was going on Art II supposedly made an ill-recieved comment to him regarding the fact that the Steelers had stuck by him when he was 6-10, and felt he was being unreasonable.

Anyways, hard feelings, a "cardboard cutout" of a coach through 2006, a home in Carolina, a "non-teary" farewell in which he didn't shake Art II's hand, and rumors of a return in 2008 all seem to fit in well with this theory. Also matches up with what Cowher's agent told King about how Cowher would be willing to return to Pitt for 8-10 mil.

So in short (or rather in long), I fully expect him to be coaching again in 2008, and this "advisor" role would just be a short-term thing.

I want to start my own rumor. I heard an unnamed source suggest that Cowher will become the new Defensive Coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs.

I bet he ends up with Arizona, or maybe Atlanta. I also hear Baltimore is interested, as is Buffalo, Carolina, Cincinnati and Cleveland. There is talk of Denver and Detroit certainly could use his services. Green Bay or Houston maybe, or he could decide to go to Indianapolis, Jacksonville, or Kansas City. Miami, Minnesota or New England. NYG or NYJ would have him in the Big Apple. Oakland or Philadelphia perhaps, or he could go back to Pittsburgh. San Diego, San Francisco, or Seattle also have teams and he could coach them if they wanted. Or he could settle for St Louis, Tampa Bay, Tennessee or Washington...

And there's always college, I mean you have Air Force, Alabama...

My guess is that the giants are hanging on to their coach 1 more year just so they can throw big money at Cowher after his 1 year vacation.

Yerfatma, put that 1 in your predictions list...Cowher coaches Giants in 2008.

I would not expect Cowher to act as a consultant for any team that does not now have a coach under contract. After all, why would anyone take a job as a head coach when he knows that the "heir apparent" will oust him in a year? Much more likely is louisville_slugger's prediction, if not with the Giants, then with another team whose head coach is on shaky ground.

dbt302, please tell me why Carolina would get rid of the coach who turned them around from a 1-15 team to a Super Bowl participant and 2 NFC Championship games. We had a down year (7-9), let's not get carried away.
