TV shows with boxing in them.

Oh, neat. I remember some of these. I remember "One Punch Banta" as being the worst episode of Taxi I ever saw (and I love Taxi), though I haven't seen it since I was in short pants. On the other hand, "Requiem For A Heavyweight" is phenomenal. Watch it if you ever get the chance.

I'm glad to see our favorite family gets its own tribute! i wonder if sam simon's involvement with the show has anything to do with all the boxing related material. and speaking of sam simon, he was also somewhat involed with "best of the west". (ok so he only wrote 1 episode). but i'm almost positive they had a boxing themed episode.

The list might be incomplete. What about that episode of Hogan's Heroes, where Kinchloe has to go into the ring against Nazi Germany's top boxer? He loses (deliberately) to enable some crazy escape hijinx or something. It worries me that I possess this information.

The list might be incomplete. Though technically not TV shows, it's the only place I've ever seen 'em. The Three Stooges: Punch Drunks - 1934 Fright Night - 1947 Fling In The Ring - 1955 (essentially a remake of Fright Night) It doesn't get much better than these!

There was the Celebrity boxing matches that aired a few years ago. I remember seeing one of the Partridge Family take on one of the Brady Bunch. I'm thinking Danny Bonaduce vs. the actor that played Greg.

dviking You're absolutely right but, don't forget Manute Bol vs. "Da Fridge" Tonya Harding vs. Paula Jones and... Todd Bridges vs. Vanilla Ice Actually, I think there was an episode of a show call Laredo (Peter Brown, William Smith, Neville Brand and Philip Carey..Late Sixties or early Seventies) where Willaim Smith took part in a boxing match as a stand-in for George Kennedy who was guest starring.

That's a funny coincidence. I saw William Smith's name the other day and was trying to remember the other guys from Laredo. Peter Brown was also the deputy on Lawman. I see there is no mention of Red Skelton's punch-drunk fighter whose name eludes me. Little help?

gradioc and dviking, I'm thinking that obviously you two gentlemen are in my "core" age group (50+). At any rate, I think we should acknowledge one of the most obvious omissions. Okay, I know this is a bit of a nitpick but, what about the Monday, Wednesday and Friday night fights sponsered by Gillette... (Look Sharp, Be Sharp, Feel Sharp!). If you do remember these black and white classics, than obviously you two know Dick Tiger (who fought about every two weeks!), Benny "Kid" Peret (Wo died after being punched out in a fight with the "Rabbit", Floyd Patterson), Oscar Bonevena.....Etc.

R A, I just vaguely remember those fights, and never would have remembered the names of the fighters. Though I did enjoy the old time all-star wrestling back before it went "hollywood". I'm talking about the Crusher, Mad Dog, and Verne Gagne.

dviking, I believe you are right about Robert Conrad and the "Wild, Wild, West", now that you mentioned it, I too seem to remember at least one episode that had James West boxing somebody. And, as long as you brought up the wrestlers... what about Mad Dog's Vachon's brother, Butcher. Not to mention, Docter X, Black Jack Lanza, Baron Von Raschke, Nick Bockwinkle and the perennial losers...George "Scrap Iron" Kadaski and the "Very Capable" Kenny Jaye.

Don't forget Screech (Saved by the Bell, The College Years) vs. Arnold Horshack (Welcome Back Kotter). Then there was the episode of Martin where he fought Tommy Hitman Hearns. After 1 knockdown Martin crawled to his corner and ordered a 2 piece and a biscuit from his trainer before getting up. /hears cricketts and an owl
