De gustibus non est disputandem, right folks? Where did this thread start to circle the drain? Where, asks Garfield, did the levity go?Marion "Man" Jones?!? HAHAHHAHAAA!! was a wrong turn. maybe. Could have been a wink-and-an-elbow-the-ribs sort of comment, I suppose, but it didn't play out that way at all. We all have a little hobby horse to ride sometimes. From what I can see, one Starfucker's favorites is making comments about female athletes' sexuality. It's probably fun to ride, for him, but watching him do it is, for me, boring at best. A little like overhearing sophomores scope girls in the cafeteria, it doesn't offer much in the way of real imagination or substance. I'm glad rcade decided to say so when he saw something he didn't like. Sportfilter doesn't have to be a personality-free zone, but I think sexism like StarFucker's makes Sportsfilter less, not more, inviting. It's not like I don't have my own ideas about which women in sport are nice to look at; it's just that I wouldn't dream of discussing it here. Maybe there's a female-athlete-fetish site somewhere that's a better place for that stuff, and maybe StarFucker hangs out there, too, and it's not enough for him. But using Sportsfilter as an outlet for something so marginally connected to sports is sort of selfish. And as I preview this, I see it will follow two pictures that confirm that the thread's not only dead, it's cremated. Oh well.
You make me weep for mankind... No pun intended.
StarFucker: Your first comment suggested that because I don't think Marion Jones is a man, I might be gay and denying myself "some intense ass loving." I have a little trouble seeing that as "a comment clarifying my opinion without insulting you in return." However, I'll own up to the ugly and personal turn this discussion took. I don't read the soccer posts here, so all I tend to see from you are comments like "all female athletes are lesbians" [1] and "women should spend less time trying to do the same thing as men in the name of equality and start doing what it is they are best at...whatever that is..." [2]. I have an interest in women's sports, and one of the reasons is that it's exciting to watch people like Mia Hamm, Annika Sorenstam and the Williams sisters removing the perception that it isn't feminine to be athletic. I think that attitude is some of the same "keep women in their place" BS that causes so few girls to pursue math and science professions. As a result, I don't have any patience for sports fans who only show interest in female athletes they can objectify sexually, denigrating the rest. To me, that's no better than the way many white sports fans justify their discomfort with the increasingly black NBA by claiming they're all a bunch of "gangstas" today, or the long-held perception that blacks were not cerebral enough to play quarterback in the NFL. Here's what I'd wish of any male sports fan: If you're going to talk about female athletes, stick to enjoying cheesecake shots or -- novel concept -- get to know something about their sports before you talk about them. At least enough to keep yourself from mocking the late Florence Joyner, one of the greatest American Olympians. Anyone who can read her bio and not be awed by her athletic achievements, because she's a woman who didn't fit your personal standards of "hotness," doesn't deserve to call themselves a sports fan.
You make me weep for mankind . . ." My work here is done.
Nazi! Hitler! This thread is OVER!
Hey. We need to all give each other some slack for our idiosyncracies, OK? This is just a bulletin board about sports, OK? Forget that, and we risk becoming this. (My god, that was a classic thread.)
What I meant to post was THIS!. (Or you can just scroll back up after clicking the link in my previous comment.)
So, that's where all the fun went!
According to the article that started this thread: 1: Anna's rank among the world's sexy women, according to a 2002 poll by FHM magazine. She posed for the issue's cover. dales15 doesn't think she is hot... dusted says Marion Jones is hotter... I say she resembles a man... What follows: ...excuse me while I drop-kick StarFucker ...female athlete who is more manly than you. ...figure out why muscles on a woman scares you Strong women too intimidating for your fragile ego ignorant... sexist... misogynistic dolt... tiresome... dumbass... lame... And i LOVE that i brought up calling me racist before the "enlightened" were able to use it as a way of trying to prove something, but failing miserably. No matter how absurd the connection was...thats fucking hilarious! rcade: Women are great athletes... StarFucker: Well, I prefer watching men play... rcade, jason streed: You fucking Nazi! You people need to fucking lighten up...
Well, I could see taking offense to the man comment if we were discussing their athletic achievements or sport, but the point of the thread was to talk about the attractiveness of the athletes, which means I didn't mind the man comment. Of course I've compared other female athletes to men on this board too and taken some heat for it, but I can remove myself from that and look objectively :) This was the first fight I've ever seen on SF... I don't think Marion is nearly as mannish as the Joyners, as mean as that may be to say. That picture is unflattering, really... most in-action runner shots are. I find lacrosse women to be of an ideal physique - some muscularity but not enough to be considered unfeminine by anyone... a nice mix, in my opinion. Some of those fitness people and certainly the bodybuilders take it a bit far though, I think.
oops, I was thinking of another picture entirely. In any event, any references made by me to "mannish" refers more to facial features than muscularity anyway. And while Marion ain't my cup of tea I don't find her face mannish.
Nothing to see here folks. Move along.
rcade, I think this was a great response. Well thought out and level headed compared to StarFucker's screeching. StarFucker, maybe people think that bashing female athletes isn't something that should be "lightened up" about. rcade is right, you repeatedly say demeaning things about women athletes, and it's tiresome and you need to be called on it. Obviously it won't make you change, but he's right to not let those types of things be said with impunity. Good for rcade.
Well, I need to say something here. This thread was not 'serious' from the start, unless one considers interesting Anna facts a serious topic for debate. For example: Personally, her #1 ranking on FHM's list was complete bs. The initial confusion rests upon differing definitions of the casual term 'hotter'. Dusted includes smart and successful, while StarFucker is thinking purely along the lines of physical beauty. A joke is made to the relatively unfeminine physique of Marion Jones in comparison to Anna, and then exaggerated with 'rock formations.' (I loved that line.) Then it seems a pent up frustration with SF manifested itself through rcade. Ensuing sling fest. I'd just like to point out that many people are bashed and ridiculed on a daily basis around these parts. Thats part of the charm to being a fan. Sure, its a little more un-PC to slight female athletes, but SF wasn't criticizing their ability, just their sex appeal and wasn't even going on and on about it (basically just 5 words people!), but the criticisms were flying fast and furious. This thread just turned out to be a witch hunt. Or maybe a warlock hunt, just to be PC.....wouldn't want to offend.
People have their heads so far up their PC asses its fucking sad... Thanks for being the only sane one around garfield... That was exactly what i have been saying in every post...this was a thread about LOOKS! NOT ABILITY! If it was, i obviously would have mentioned that Anna SUCKS at tennis...
What did I start???
For a guy who claims to be an expert on manliness, StarFucker, you sure cry a lot.
She is hot, but there are alot of models/singers/actresses that are alot better. Hell, just go to any college campus and you'll find better looking women. Anna's good looking and has a nice body. But if she weren't playing tennis (and I use the word playing loosely here), and led a normal life, she'd just be a hot coed in your algebra class. Just show's our obsession with the famous. To me, that's no better than the way many white sports fans justify their discomfort with the increasingly black NBA by claiming they're all a bunch of "gangstas" today, or the long-held perception that blacks were not cerebral enough to play quarterback in the NFL. True, but that goes both ways, and I don't think the issue is as black and white as one might think (no pun intended). African american interest in the PGA has increased since Tiger entered the picture. Baseball has openly talked about a lack of african american viewers being a result of fewer black baseball players. Yes, it can be taken to a racist level, but wanting to see someone you can relate to is human nature and crosses racial barriers.
