Larry Johnson Released by the Kansas City Chiefs: With or without a ruling by the special master, the Chiefs will release Larry Johnson.

The Chiefs and Larry Johnson are in the middle of a case to determine whether or not the Chiefs have to pay Johnson this year's installment of his signing bonus. The Chiefs are contending that Larry violated his contract when he was suspended for one game in 2008.

"often angry and sullen, he was dogged by controversy and frequently at odds with coaches and fans"

Sounds like the Barry Bonds of football. I don't know this guy's story, so I don't know what reasons he might have for being angry and sullen often. But you might think that being rich and famous would alleviate that just a tiny bit.

With the lower tolerance in the league for this sort of behavior and at his age, he might have tantrumed himself into retirement.

Sounds like the Barry Bonds of football.

Except that Bonds has a Hall of Fame career on his resume.

Larry Johnson's bad attitude cost himself the all-time rushing record for the franchise. Over time I wonder if that will sting more, particularly if he's laid down roots in KC and will be spending his retirement there.

This was overdue. LJ had made it clear for years he didn't want to be in KC anymore, & his demeanor & choices had worn the Chiefs' fans support for him thin for a couple years now as well.

Good move for both parties.

You can be grumpy and get away with it when you are a star. When you are averaging 2.7 ypc, you need to be quiet. He hadn't built up any goodwill in KC because he has been a jerk since his first year when Vermeil had to put up with him. Good riddance, LJ.

He looks like a perfect fit for the Bengals.

You're a few years late with that snappy little zinger.

Cincy has Cedric "Boat Arrest " Benson, who is 4th in the NFL in rushing. Why would they want Larry?

Actually, Cedric "I was acquitted of all of those charges that were filed against me while I was on the Chicago Bears" Benson is 2nd in the NFL in rushing. Not saying he's a saint or anything, just that there hasn't been a disciplinary problem involving a member of the Bengals for quite some time now. There's been countless arrests on your end to keep Steelers fans distracted, though, I know. cedric wilson and james harrison who hit women, jeff reed got pissed at a towel dispenser, just to name those since Benson became the starter in Cincy...

Yeah, Benson has really turned things around in Cincy. I'm sure the Bears are shocked at how well he is running. Good for him. But, people do not like to let go of old jokes, so you should be prepared to hear Cincy/criminal jokes for the next 10 years.

My friends and i have called him boat arrest benson since he was with chicago. that was not a shot at the bengals and their past history of criminal activity.

Trust me I am not the Pittsburgh fan that thinks we are the golden franchise that has no problems.

You left out Matt "piss in public" Spath and Santonio"play at a HIGH level" Holmes

Well, then, mea culpa. I agree that the jokes are going to linger (shit, in this country, we still tack the suffix "-gate" to every scandal) I just get sick of derision from smug Steeler fans, many of whom happen to be friends of mine. I tend to [over]react to fairly innocuous jokes. On a side note, should be one hell of a game this Sunday. Go Boat Arrest Benson!

to further the pain, a buddy of mine in the 'burgh called to offer me one of his seats to the game, but I can't make it.

I think it should be a great game. Cincy looks stong and I know i would not bet that game. Your rookie corners look good too. This week will be a test for them. Palmer finally looks healthy. Sucks losing Henry for the year. He made it hard to double team the "oche" Should be a good one

I think I mentioned it in a later post, but those guys aren't rookies. Hall's a 3rd year out of michigan and Joseph is a fourth year out of S. Carolina. They're just beginning to play pretty well together, so nobody noticed them before this season. Enjoy the game!just, hopefully, not too much
