SportsFilter "Frozen Four" Road to the Championship2007: SpoFie Confidence Pool Update. It's Michigan State vs Boston College in the Final. Some Great Hockey and indifferent announcing from Mr. Hair "Barry Melrose". This is going to be exciting!

Well at least I'm not the only one mathematically eliminated. The obvious winner will be so duly crowned after the Final. Thrilled to see a CCHA squad in this game. Michigan State has been a Machine. Dismantling opponents like an Old Erector Set.

Well at least I'm not the only one mathematically eliminated. Says the guy in fourth place.

Holy crap, MSU pulled that game off yesterday? I saw that they were losing, and looking kinda weak against Maine, so I switched to something else; mostly at the behest of the old lady. I really wish that the UP schools can get their juggernauts rolling again.

I really hope State gets rolled tomorrow night. The trap annoys the piss out of me, and I hate to think that they could be NCAA champs. BC has been playing the best hockey for the last few months, and deserves it. Should be a great game though. The UND/BC game was awesome, esp the first 2.5 periods. Both teams are so talented. Unfortunately, the last ten minutes brought out the bad penalties, bad calls, bad defense, and one of the strangest empty net goals I've ever seen. What the heck happened to the Sioux D. Go BC.

I thought that goal was great, emoeby. We replayed that one about a dozen times. I still haven't seen a shot that really showed what happened, did Rooney just take off that much faster than anyone else?

Holy crap, MSU pulled that game off yesterday? I was thinking the same thing, NoMich, but decided to wait it out. Good thing that I did, because it was a total turnaround. I'm not too fond of the trap either, emoeby. Dump and chase isn't my cup of tea.

Clearly my disdain for Maine and BC backfired.

As did mine for Notre Dame and Michigan State.

Good job Spartoons! Now if we can just get both of the Huskies and the Lakers going, I'd be very happy. Maybe when I'm up there this summer, I can get some karma going for them.

Here's the Final Standings. Our Champion is tselson........Congrats to both tselson and MSU. A CCHA National Champion! Yea!

Why is it that my worst showings in confidence pools are the ones that involve hockey? I thought I had a chance since I know little about college hockey. Oh well, congrats to tselson. And congrats to goddam for another Costanza.

Congrats to tselson, and congrats to the Friggin' Cow Tippers of the Agricultural College of the State of Michigan. I suck. At least I beat Fris.

I would have been content with my ignominious tied-for-17th finish, if only the Eagles had winned it. Goddammit.

Congrats, tselson. I somehow managed to crawl into a 3rd place tie by the application of DBL. No, not Deductive Brilliant Logic; more like Dumb Blind Luck.

Thanks for the Pool, Sdd. It was fun. The only things I knew about college hockey were: Miami is usually pretty tough. Maine is cool. Boston College has to be good at something. MSU always beats teams when I need them to in football. (ND, OSU...UM) New Hampshire...well, not as cool as Maine. Michigan was probably not as good as they thought they were. North Dakota isn't in Boston. Alabama and hockey just doesn't seem right. (But then neither does Phoenix or Florida or Dallas...) If UF had a team they would have won. On those notes, sorry Weedy, I'm not worthy.

What? And I am? You're as worthy as the next owlhouse. Works for me. Now, on the topic of the other hockey pool....

Maine is cool. New Hampshire...well, not as cool as Maine. You've either done very little research into this or way too much and we're better off staying away from one another.

Now, on the topic of the other hockey pool.... I see no reason to discuss that. New Hampshire...well, not as cool as Maine. I have to say, this is also the prevailing opinion throughout Connecticut. New Hampshire is kinda the West Virginia of New England.

posted by The Crafty Sousepaw at 08:42 AM on April 09, 2007

I've always heard West Viriginia described as the Connecticut of the Virginias. Weird, hey?

posted by NoMich at 09:41 AM on April 09, 2007

I have to say, this is also the prevailing opinion throughout Connecticut. Growing up on Route 9, I can attest to this. Living 5 minutes from the Maine border now, I can also attest that Connecticut has it wrong. Very wrong.

None of them are as cool as Vermont.

Wait - Vermont is an actual state? I thought it was made up from Newhart and hippie jokes. You know - fictional. Like Dragons and Eskimos. Or maybe a, like, state of mind, maaaan.

Wait - Vermont is an actual state? Dude, I thought we gave it back to you guys.

***** TOTAL DERAILMENT ALERT ***** Since we're on college sports, and picking winners and all that, where do I get my friggin' award for the college tourney pick 'em? I've been here nearly two years, and this is my first win of any kind, so I wants my precious! I now return you to this stirring rendition of "Heidi..."

Wait - Vermont is an actual state? Dude, I thought we gave it back to you guys. They did. As far as I know the flatlanders have officially taken over and the oldtimers gave all of Northern Vermont back to Quebec. Now Quebec's got the flatlander problem and all affected farms are independent nations. Went so well no one noticed. Also, when the border war starts Vermont can feel free to try and sneak attack NH all they want. While the real battle is happening on the eastern front with Maine we'll throw gravy fries and microbrews at the barely motivated hippies that will undoubtedly make up Vermont's militia. It's how Burlington has defended itself all these years.

Vermont can't go to war now. It's still ski season.
