For The Love of Sport: Welcome to the New Big East To steal a line from Mark Twain, rumors of the Big East's death have been greatly exaggerated. A continuing series by sportsfilter's own kyrilmitch_76.

Another Big East team that will probably break the top 25 by year's end (they're currently 30 in the AP Poll): The Cincinnati Bearcats.

The irony of this column being posted the same day Louisville loses its second straight is not lost upon me. Other than that though great column mitch. The Big East is most definitly underrated.

Imagine my dissapointment. If only I could figure out how to make the right teams win to make me look like a genius (St. Louis Cardinals, take note).

Good column, but isn't NBC broadcasting Pittsburgh and Buffalo nationally on January 1, 2008?

I could be wrong I had a hard time finding any NHL TV listings anywhere but now that you mention it I remember hearing somewhere about the NHL in their wisdom decided to televise an outdoor game and then they put it up against all of the college bowl games just to ensure that no one would see a game on TV.

so I googled NHL outdoor game January 1, 2008 and sure enough you are correct.

A lot of sports fans were disgusted watching the ACC raid the Big East for BC, Va Tech and Miami a couple of years ago. How funny is it that the Big East is still a better football conference?

Somehow I can't take too seriously any conference that has UConn and Buffalo as members, but then the ACC has Duke, the Big Ten Northwestern, Vanderbilt in the SEC, and so on. West Virginia is indeed for real, and Rutgers has to be considered, but I don't believe either is a threat for the (so-called) National Championship Game. You do make a good case, kyrilmitch, but I can't buy it wholeheartedly.

I will concede that UConn isn't ready for a BCS bid. My point was more that the conference as a whole is putting out a pretty good product and collectively deserves a seat at the table. Of course if they simply implemented a 16 team playoff we wouldn't have to have these discussions.

#5 West virginia #10 RUTGERS #18 South Florida & # 25 Cininnati I believe the Big East is Back if Lousville can get its act together it will be 5 teams in the top twentyfive Thank you Miami for leaving and taking those other two followers with you all of you have now gone to a conference and now know how it feels to get beat up on. Go Big East Go SCARLET KNIGHTS!!!!!

Somehow I can't take too seriously any conference that has UConn and Buffalo as members Buffalo is in the MAC not the Big East. As for the Big East, they have some good teams but, I think they to add more teams or they're status as a BCS conference should probably be re-visited. In case anyone missed it, UConn beat Pitt this week (one week after they stole one from Temple).

I dont think the big east needs more teams, they just need the teams like Pitt to start being competitive(see next season)

Yeah, right. Dave Wannstadt coaches Pitt. As a Dolphins fan, I can tell you, if you're waiting for a Wannstadt team to win, you might as well wait for ZZ Top to start endorsing Norelco.

It could be worse. You could be a Lions fan. if Lousville can get its act together it will be 5 teams in the top twentyfive Doubtful. Voters will not be kind to Louisville after they've lost two straight. And if they pull off some upsets of some of the major teams in the Big East it is very possible that those teams may drop out of the Top 25 as a result.

TBH Pitt has had a top recruiting class the last 2 years and this guy Mccoy running the ball looks like the real deal.. They have a freshman QB that was lighting it up in camp until a family problem arose to pull him away for a week or two. Also pitts best receiver tore his knee and camp and will be redshirted till next season. i would be willing to bet they are a contender next season for the big east title

Debo, the man had players in Miami and couldn't take them to the next level, often making purely baffling decisions during close games. I have no confidence in his ability to lead a team to the next level, be it college, pro, or high school. That's just me, and if I'm wrong, well, congrats to Pitt and all their fans. It could be worse. You could be a Lions fan. Dude, that shit is just getting old. Lions are 2-1. Phins are 0-3. Don't talk to me about how hard you've got it. Historically, sure, I'll give it to you, but in the here and now, you've got no room to complain. Okay, the Eagles hanging 56 points on yer boys, I can see some complaining being valid. Otherwise, shaddap.

Plus I've heard that the Lions are going to win 10+ games this season.

Historically, sure, I'll give it to you, but in the here and now, you've got no room to complain. The Dolphins will win more games than the Lions this season. I guarantee it.

I guarantee it. Where the hell's yerfatma when you need his prediction page?

What's the line on the Patriots winning more games than the Dolphins and Lions combined?
