"I tucked and rolled, like any other cripple who was falling from 30-something feet would do . . . all I was thinking about was how I was going to get out from under the wing" : Mark Zuppan from Murderball competed in this year's Flugtag. Like so much in life, it's not how far you get, it's where you end up.

You know,I love hearing stories like this. You know...the last guy that people think should be doing this is the one person who makes it worth while.
All I can say is bravo and he should have told them the horse was a floatation device.

Mark Zupan is one athlete I do not mind looking up to. He is a class act.

Great story, thanks. (Also, dude, your 100th FPP -- that seems like an awful lot. Sure, it's fourth among those who posted today, and only two more than another. But still, impressive.)

You can thank Mary Buckheit. I almost never go to ESPN to just browse around anymore, but it seems when I do, she has the best stories. She's certainly the closest* thing to an authentic "blogger" voice I've heard there.

* I originally typed that as "closet" which seemed an unfortunate Freudian slip given her terrific Page 2 article about coming out. And yet I'm enough of a dick** to think that funny enough to demand inclusion.
** Pardon the gender-specific appelation.

Hey, hey, hey now. Wait just a sec there Crafty. We all know that it isn't all about numbers here. It's about proven veteran leadership. And intangibles. Delicious heathen intangibles.

No no no. It is all about the numbers, but not the raw numbers. We need Grum to run a root mean square analysis of FPP to days of membership. (or some other option that He, The Noble Statistician, should more wisely choose.)

Zupan was on an HBO special about murderball one time. Crazy sport. Seems like a hip guy.

"I almost never go to ESPN to just browse around anymore, but it seems when I do, she has the best stories." -I assume you read Bill Simmons as well. He's awesome. Once I'm seasoned enough, I'll be posting some of his stuff. Despite his view of my 07-08 Chiefs.

Simmons was awesome when he was the Boston Sports Guy. Now he is awesome about 5% of the time.

Slaptastic, I don't know what Simmons said about the 07-08 Chiefs, but after going to both the KU game and the Chiefs game, I couldn't really tell you which would win in a head to head match-up.

I have been a Chiefs die-hard all of my life, and I have never seen any team, not just the Chiefs, look more anemic on offense. It is embarrasing.
