This link is so cool, thank you gspm. Lester Patrick of the New York Rangers. He was the coach, and when the goaltender got hurt in the final game of the 1928 Stanley Cup playoffs, he went in to play goal! 46 minutes, 1 goal, one Stanley Cup ring. Beauty!
excellent link, gspm. there's also HockeyGoalies.org. it ain't nearly as pretty to look at and isn't always kept up-to-date, but one cool feature is the NHL shootout and game summaries for current goalies.
It's really a great website. I can't believe how many goalies you tend to forget about after a while (especially the ones who burst on the scene with initial success, only to disappear soon after). Watching Ryan Miller single-handedly keep the Sabres alive (barely) in the Ottawa series reminds me how crucial the job is, and how spectacular and enjoyable it is to watch a truly talented goaltender.
