I'm just sorry I forgot all the Latin I learned in hgh school. It would be really nice to talk to some of those fellas :/
posted by Bury Bonds at 8:17 AM CST on October 27 By the way, the term Latino applies to the language from which Spanish originates from, "Latin", not the different races which can varie from Hispanic, Afro-American, Natives, etc. There are other languages that also derive from Latin, such as French, Italian, Portuguese.... English derives from German (Saxons). Latin per se is a "dead" language, you will not be able to speak it with many people other than your "catholic priest", but Im sure you would enjoy such an encounter, Bury Bonds!
I was put off by the fact that seven of the twelve players selected were still playing. ARod, a legend? Hmmmm. Tony Perez, Jose Cruz, Luis Aparicio, Orlando Cepeda, Al Lopez, for example. I'd have taken just about any of them over somebody who's currently playing. This is what happens when fans get to vote on things they know very little about.
Sorry, im white/african american. And when i reread his post from my white side. i guess i can find the humor in it.
grum@work: Indeed. Because people can't pick up sarcasm. The racial politics are amusing. Tiger Woods is part East-Asian, part black American, part a bunch of other stuff, and he's a Black American. These guys are part Spanish, part Black, born in north or central America, but they're Hispanic (and Spanish is not apparently "white" in the way French, or English, or Irish, or Italian are). In a better world, none of it would matter.
Fox introduced the Latino Legends Team segment with shots of great Latino ballplayers. The theme music was Tu' vuo' fa' l'americano. Years of great music from Latin America and they picked Tu' vuo' fa' l'americano?! Understand my disbelief. They chose to feature the Latino players while playing a song written in an Italian dialect about foolish Italians who are aping American culture. Did Fox think the song was in Spanish? Obviously no one bothered to understand the song at all. I actually wrote this on my blog that night, but since my wife stopped reading it no one noticed
