The Frankenpitcher starts again, and everyone wonders if the Red Sox will score more runs than the Patriots today. The over/under on total errors in the game: 2.5.

Schilling's doing 94 MPH, looking good.

Every time a Red Sock so much as drops a turd in this series, it's going to set a team WS record.

Also: "Tim, I just have to say: that was a perfectly constructed sentence." Patronizing fuck.

They did lead the majors in Dropped Turds (DT) this year.

Comment icon posted by jerseygirl at 7:48 PM CDT on October 24

Whoooooooooooo!

Comment icon posted by chicobangs at 7:51 PM CDT on October 24

Now that was a cool DP.

(Not to be confused with a DT. (heh.))

Comment icon posted by chicobangs at 8:07 PM CDT on October 24

I don't like Schilling's control. I like his velocity, but I don't like his control.

Comment icon posted by Bryant at 8:28 PM CDT on October 24

Bellhorn is automatic now!

Comment icon posted by usfbull at 8:51 PM CDT on October 24

I want one of those hunting-slash-Sox caps. They look so cool.

I suspect it's the alcohol.

Comment icon posted by chicobangs at 8:52 PM CDT on October 24

That Ortiz shot was way foul. But I like the theater of him getting all indignant.

Comment icon posted by chicobangs at 9:13 PM CDT on October 24

Had enough theater in the ALCS. I just want some baseball and some runs.

Comment icon posted by jerseygirl at 9:13 PM CDT on October 24

Tom Hanks, a Red Sox fan or bandwagon jumper?

Comment icon posted by jerseygirl at 9:16 PM CDT on October 24

Well, we're halfway through this one and we've got 5 runs up already.

I'm guessing 4-1 won't be the final score.

Tom Hanks? I buy his pulling for Boston. It seems his speed.

(U2, however, can bite (a) their new Apple jingle song, and (b) me.)

Comment icon posted by chicobangs at 9:19 PM CDT on October 24

1. The Cast of ""That 70's Show" don't really look like they want to be there. Fuck that show.

2. Schilling is definitely getting stronger.

Comment icon posted by chicobangs at 9:24 PM CDT on October 24

mueller a little jumpy? he was looking good defensively early, but now a 2nd error.

Comment icon posted by kokaku at 9:25 PM CDT on October 24

AAAAAAARGH BELLHORN NOW!

Comment icon posted by jerseygirl at 9:28 PM CDT on October 24

Tom Hanks seems like a good guy. I'll give him a pass. But could the timing be worse for the Farrelly brothers' movie?

Comment icon posted by usfbull at 9:30 PM CDT on October 24

He just atoned for it to make those errors not count, but -- goddamn.

(not you, goddam. :)

Comment icon posted by chicobangs at 9:30 PM CDT on October 24

Wow, this is craptacular. I shall now go get takeout Thai food before the late innings. Hopefully Mueller and Bellhorn can redeem their awfulnessosity in this bottom half of the game.

Figure Schilling for one more inning? Even with those errors, his pitch count is still low enough that if that 125 pitch limit they said he had at the opening of the game is true, he could go all nine.

Comment icon posted by Hal Incandenza at 9:32 PM CDT on October 24

I'd bet on Schill starting the seventh, but he'll be on a tight leash.

Comment icon posted by Bryant at 9:36 PM CDT on October 24

Bryant, I think you're right

Schilling got his Quality Start in, so it's all, to use a phrase I hate hate hate, good.

Comment icon posted by chicobangs at 9:40 PM CDT on October 24

You know, as bad as McCarver is, Joe Buck is actually pretty solid.

He has to be.

Comment icon posted by chicobangs at 9:42 PM CDT on October 24

Francona's got to be feeling good now. Get another inning out of Schilling, and you can go Embree/Timlin to finish it up and rest Foulke a bit, or even use Leskanic if you need to. All assuming that the Red Sox don't give it up. Which they so easily could.

Comment icon posted by Bryant at 9:45 PM CDT on October 24

The Cast of "That 70's Show" don't really look like they want to be there. Fuck that show.

You know, it's a pretty funny show. But I've boycotted the show (sorta) since Laura Prepon went and gave herself blonde hair.

Worst. Idea. Ever.

Now she looks like any-old Hollywood strumpet...

Comment icon posted by grum@work at 9:48 PM CDT on October 24

I hate this, because the feed I'm watching has Brennaman (or whatever) and Steve Lyons, so I can't get in on the Timmy hatefest. FWIW, I like these two guys, and I like Lyons calling out the managers or players for what he sees as mistakes. As I type this, Ortiz is hitting against King, after Cabrera should have scored on Manny's dump single, but instead jogged to first thinking he had a dong. I couldn't bear to watch.

Comment icon posted by wfrazerjr at 9:53 PM CDT on October 24

Did Tom Hanks just say "Yeah! Get the fuck out!" when Embree got that last strike out?

Thanks for the slo-mo close up, Fox!
The FCC will contact you in the morning.

I stopped watching That 70's Show when I found out that much of the cast subscribed to a certain pseudo-religiony cult created by a science fiction writer.

They don't need my eyeballs, really.

Donna Summer looks and sounds pretty alright.

Reason #44540 why I want Toronto to make it to the World Series: At least 3 of the games wouldn't have the "God Bless America" time-killer.

Comment icon posted by grum@work at 10:03 PM CDT on October 24

Well, look at Embree, striking everybody out!

The 70s Show guys are into that, huh? How depressing.

Comment icon posted by Bryant at 10:03 PM CDT on October 24

Holy crap! Great catch by Edmonds!

With his outrageous offensive numbers and better-than-average fielding, he is definitely the best CF in the majors. He's one player I'll never give up in my Scoresheet league.

Comment icon posted by grum@work at 10:06 PM CDT on October 24

Tom Werner is one of the producers on That 70s Show.

A couple of the cast members (along with Macauley Culkin I think) showed up for a game last year.

Here in Canada, we can get both feeds:

Sportsnet shows us the non-McCarver feed, while the FOX station shows us the evil feed.

Schilling may miss the rest of the Series; the surgery apparently hurt a lot more the second time. Pfoo. I can't say I'm surprised, though.

With the young ladies they have leading the crowd now, I'm ALL for that being on TV.

/dirty old man

Besides, the opposing team gets a HUGE kick out of it, too. Gary Gaetti used to join in every time his team visited Toronto.

Comment icon posted by grum@work at 10:24 PM CDT on October 24

Ah, man, he's over-using Foulkie.

Comment icon posted by Bryant at 10:28 PM CDT on October 24

Embree looked great and struck out the side, why pull him for Timlin, who immediately sets off a Cardinals rally? Just like last night.

Comment icon posted by kirkaracha at 10:31 PM CDT on October 24

2-0! And another four errors. Wonder what the record is for errors in a World Series? Ah, looks like it's 34, way back in 1909.

"Love that dirty water, ahhh, Boston! You're my home."

Comment icon posted by Bryant at 10:49 PM CDT on October 24

THIRTY-FOUR ERRORS?! Jeezus.

2-0... man! But we started '86 going up 2-0 against a vastly superior Mets team. While this team is a lot stronger and deeper than that '86 team, as it has shown so far... well, If Pedro has a mediocre start... if Schilling isn't coming back again... this could very quickly go south, and just like the Sox/Yankees, I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop: a team like the Cardinals doesn't have that lackluster a hitting performance without regressing to the mean.

Comment icon posted by Hal Incandenza at 11:13 PM CDT on October 24

schilling wasn't supposed to come back last time either.

I don't get why people can't hit him... he's not throwing anything special at all, not striking people out, not overpowering... It makes no sense.

And I am so god damned sick of hearing about him and his damn ankle. In fact, were it not for the overhype about him, I would be rooting for the Sox to break the curse and get it out of the way.

Yes, you heard that right.

Comment icon posted by Bernreuther at 11:21 PM CDT on October 24

Eight errors in two games? I don't feel good about the Sox playing without a DH in Saint Louis. (Although I really, really hate the DH and will grumble about it on my deathbed.)

Comment icon posted by Dick Paris at 11:24 PM CDT on October 24

That's heresy, Bernreuther. You'd prolong an 86-year-old curse because of a couple of days of excessive praise for Schilling's zombie tendon?

Comment icon posted by rcade at 11:33 PM CDT on October 24

And, uh, would you allow your boss to stitch your wrist together if you got bad RSI a few days before a big project was due?

Comment icon posted by tieguy at 11:37 PM CDT on October 24

It must be good to be a Bostonian right now (says the sad, sad Chicagoan).

Comment icon posted by jacknose at 11:41 PM CDT on October 24

he's not throwing anything special at all

I hope you're kidding. There were a couple of splitters that were just plain nasty. The speed change alone is a killer. He's not doing it with mirrors.

And location , changing speeds and pitch selection make pitches far more difficult to hit than a 98 mph fastball.

It reminds me how outraged people get when their team can't hit a knuckleballer. Seems so easy until you face it.

He's a special pitcher and he's overcome not having his best stuff.

Comment icon posted by justgary at 11:58 PM CDT on October 24

Laura Prepon played in the World Series of Poker. That redeems a lot. But yeah, the Fox human-product-placement is shitty. It was bad enough with Calista Flockhart at Yankee Stadium, looking like a dishmop with a baseball cap.

This is too fucking quiet, though, even with the dropped turds. It's like a horror movie, before the first horrific moment. But Schilling tweaked his hip flexor, too, and I can't see him starting again unless the Sox do a Sox, so let them not do a Sox.

Comment icon posted by etagloh at 12:38 AM CDT on October 25

jacknose: feel happy! If the sox can get off their schnide, then it must mean teams like the Cubs & White Sox are right around the corner!

Although to be sure, if any team deserved its curse/WS drought, it would be the White Sox. Fuckin' Charles Comiskey!

Comment icon posted by Hal Incandenza at 1:00 AM CDT on October 25

Despite jumping on Bernreuther, I will say, that I don't think that this performance will replace Gibson's as The Definitive Baseball Gutting Out Pain Moment- he doesn't gimp enough. With Reed and Gibson, they hobbled around, and then did their thing. 'All' Schilling is doing is bleeding and being reliable- it doesn't provide video nearly as dramatic as Gibson did.

Comment icon posted by tieguy at 7:06 AM CDT on October 25

When he hobbled down the first base line on the foul ball, I thought they were going to have to bring out a wheelchair so he could make it back to the batter's box.

The blood-seeping-through is a pretty good dramatic touch.

If I was making Schilling money, and the civic self-image of an entire city was egging me on... maybe.
