Euro 2004 Did I really go? I finally got around to posting some of my pics. Check inside if you are interested.

Iraq Stuns Portugal in Men's Soccer They came to town wearing new jackets that proclaimed, "Iraq is back." And in their first competition, Iraq's underdog soccer team confirmed it, beating Portugal, 4-2, in the opening round of Olympic preliminaries today. Is this the same Portugal team that made it to the finals of Euro 2004?

Euro 2004 Im sitting at an old pc in my hotel in Estoril, Portugal. A beach community outside Lisbon and wanted to check in.

Host Portugal advances in Euro 2004 One of Europe's smallest and poorest nations, Portugal splurged about $4.8 billion on the 16-nation soccer tournament. Many cried foul - especially after a 2-1 opening defeat against Greece. The home nation, many feared, would be locked out of its own extravagant festivities.

Dodgers-Yanks Renew Rivalry For all the talk (& opinions) about interleague play, I must say I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Dodgers visit Fenway and the Yankees visit Chavez Ravine. I'm also extremely impressed that LA fans have put the Lakers series behind them and shown up to root for their team. Is anyone else watching this game? My reason for posting is simple. One of my good friends (he's a Yankee fan and I'm a Sox fan) is at this game right now and he just called me to tell me that it feels like a playoff game.

Pats Making Move For Moss If Randy Moss becomes a Patriot, the only question remaining will be: What possible excuse for not producing can he come up with now?

I can't believe all the moves the Pats have made this offseason. It looks like it's SuperBowl or nothing for Belichik this year.

Online Gamling bill passed by Congress Soon the government is going to pass a law that outlaws online gambling including poker and sports betting

posted by SDM at 02:59 PM on October 11

Of course this is sports related, it just completely changed how millions will watch sports. I tried to reload my online account last week and was notified that my credit card was inactive. And I only do small parlays to make things interesting. The amazing part of this was the huge haircut all these gaming stocks took last week. Billions of dollars of lost market cap. Not only the gaming stocks either, but a lot of the "paypal" type of payment systems on the periphery also went into the tank.

Mr. Congeniality, Shea Hillenbrand is cut from the Blue Jays after an expletive-filled tirade ripping the manager and the front office. Hillenbrand was furious with John Gibbons for calling him out in front of the team and with the brass for failing to congratulate him on adopting a baby girl. After being traded for Byung-Hung Kim in 2003 (a deal that freed up playing time for then-obscure David Ortiz), Hillenbrand called Theo Epstein a "fag". What a class act!

posted by Venicemenace at 11:58 PM on July 22

This incident proves to me that the wildcard is now coming out of the AL East. Hillenbrand is a douche. But he swings a relatively strong bat and plays a solid infield for pennies on the dollar (making a paltry $6 Million).

Carolina Hurricanes win the Stanley Cup in Game 7 The Canes came out hard and had a 2-0 lead before the Oilers decided to show up in the third period. Great game, I think I've developed ulcers because of it.

I want my MTV So I've pretty much given up on spofi in favor of deadspin- the posts typically have *something* interesting or funny to say that I'm not getting from espn (which maybe a third of the FPPs do here these days) and the comments are closed to morons. That said... I'd way prefer to read the-spofi-that-was over deadspin- less corporate (aka fewer ads), more community-oriented, etc. (sigh). I'm not sure where this is going exactly, except, dammit, I want my old spofi back, and I'm feeling a little guilty about cheating on spofi with deadspin. Thoughts...?

Tieguy started this thread and I am going to end it! My buddy (not a spofi member or with any knowledge that I am) recently met a girl through myspace (we are both predators) and she sent him a link with pics, which he forwarded to me on the tieguy.org url. I thought, "I know this guy" but couldn't place him. Now it all makes sense. Sit and Deadspin!!! And just for the record, I am like member 756 and always felt like a late arrival. Now I feel like I was on the Mayflower. Thanks for a great job founders. It may get ugly sometimes, but I still check back often for links even though my commenting has gone WAY down due to my newfound celebrity status. Hint: American Idol

Hey fake fans: Make like Damon and leave Red Sox Youth is now a privileged lot that sits behind home plate and talks on cell phones, and you cannot help but wonder if any of them ever played the game at all. And when you ask them if they did, they proudly show their blisters from the PlayStation hand control.

Great comparison with the indie rock band. When I read this on the Herald site this morning, all I could think about was my freshman year at Northeastern University (1991), and every dorm room seemed to be blaring Nirvana. Seemingly, each occupant claiming they discovered them and bitching about their growing popularity. I was a white suburbanite who showed up with PE and NWA cd's and all along my comment was that (insert gigantic record company here) did, not you. Articles like this expose Boston as a bitter city, even in success they will find something to complain about. WFRAZERJr, is that Wilfred Brimley? I believe he said: "I didn't go to high school. I think that after you learn to read and write and do your numbers and flush the toilet behind yourself, you don't need no more schoolin'. You need to get out in the water and swim."

Oral Roberts University's odds of winning the NCAA men's hoops tourney are five sextillion to one. So they have that going for them. Which is nice.

Bay Hill Invitational 2006 Columnist JJ gives an "inside-the-ropes" preview exclusively for Sportsfilter.

JJ, what handicap do you play to now? And also, I have a friend that just got invited to play in the BellSouth Pro-Am here in Atlanta. He's a 15 and is worried that he will embarass himself. I told him you can't pass up an opportunity like that. In your experience, are there a bunch of hacks out there on those Monday rounds?

It's amazing how we (as a society) always joked about steroids in MLB and knew they were a huge part of the game. But now I am seeing that in the face of documented corroboration, the chairs are being pushed away from the table and everyone is taking sides. Bonds is going down, and all of MLB will be taking a hit because it happened as they were counting the receipts. And I mean greenies, red bull, speed, whatever. It's all fair game now. The second I got my mail today, I sat down on my couch and plowed through that story. Then I went on Amazon and pre-ordered the book. (Then I realized if I ordered another book to put me over $25, I would get free shipping. Damn you Amazon!!! You have made way too much money off me with that ploy). This thing reads like a well researched crime novel. My open question is this: it sounds like he was using undocumented cash from memorabilia shows to finance his girlfriend. At the least, I wouldn't be surprised to see him brought down Capone style by the IRS.

Apparently Wayne Gretzky was not the first Super Bowl MVP from a losing team. Just noticed this. That's pretty neat. Basic test of sports knowledge and Google-Fu. I've been thinking about it, and I think I approve.

The indians have some questions about Mota's shoulder. Let's hope it doesn't keep this deal from happening. And now Theo is back as GM. We need to settle all of this drama before pitchers and catchers report.

Reardon arrested for robbing a jewelry store. The lesson here is if you rob a jewelry store, don't stop at the Denney's down the street for lunch!

posted by Big D Alexander at 07:11 AM on December 29

If he is treated like a common thief, then that means he would be back on the street before the arresting officer even finished the paperwork. Believe it or not, you have to try pretty hard to get locked up these days.

Hannibal Lecter said it best: "We begin by coveting what we see every day." Since this guy sometimes stayed in the apartment above her, he figures they should kill her rather than chancing getting ID'd. Over a car? That is just pure evil.
