Get officially licensed sports gear here -- for your dog. Crass commercialism officially goes off the deep end, attempting to reach that intersection of the market where sports-fandom meets pet-obsession. The four-page photo gallery of dogs in game jerseys is the height of weirdness. Not all MLB or NBA teams represented, but you can get Fido or Fifi some Red Sox or Yanks swag, among other squads.

Pup already has a red sox collar. It wasn't as pricey. I tried to put my little plastic batting helmet (former soft-serve ice cream dish from fenway) on his head, but he made it clear that he's not a hat guy.

The collars don't freak me out, nor the leashes, which dogs commonly wear. It's the jackets, especially the Lakers fleece warmup jacket we see a dachsund wearing on page three of the gallery. Dogs have fur. They don't need fleece. And I'm sure my dog would never, ever root for the Lakers.

I don't think I've ever seen something quite so horrible and adorable at the same time.

Dogs have fur. They don't need fleece. And I'm sure my dog would never, ever root for the Lakers. My dog only has a single coat, and he doesn't shed. He shivers when it gets into the single digits, so he has one sweater. Otherwise, he's keeping it real with a regular old red bandana.

One day the dogs will make us pay for this.

Slightly off topic, but folks with pets may appreciate PetEdge for their pet-related needs. My mother-in-law turned us on to them. They are a wholesaler that will sell online to individuals. Pretty hefty delivery fees, but if one buys a lot of stuff the price breaks are worth it. I do not work for PetEdge, and have no interest in them other than my wife and I are fond of their service.

BTW, I have to agree with JG. Many small dogs, especially those with short hair, should NOT be outside in cold weather for very long. While the products in the posted link are silly beyond belief, short-haired dogs should always have some sort of warm cover for cold weather. I am reminded of my neighbour recently as he walked his short-haired dog in front of our house with a jacket on. We told him Pete (the dog) looked quite nice in his jacket and he replied, "My dog has fleece." Bad pun, but we laughed in spite of ourselves.

Just let the dog tell you if he/she is cold or not.
