We all knew the 2004 49ers were a joke,: but I bet you didn't know they were a truly tasteless joke.™ Public relations director Kirk Reynolds reminds players "what you do is not only a reflection of yourself. It's a reflection of the San Francisco 49ers."

Oh sweet crap. It's like satire fell off a cliff and landed on irony... Crushing Kirk Reynolds in the process.

In a sendup of same-sex marriages, Reynolds presides over a mock wedding between two women staged inside the Mitchell Brothers theater on O'Farrell Street in San Francisco. [Nudity has been deliberately blurred by Chronicle staff] Spoil sports!

Actually, Matier and Ross, are almost shoe ins for the Mitchell Bros.. Was Marilyn Chambers the High Priestess? It IS San Francisco after all!

Good message, horrible delivery. I thought it was golden that he made two references to T.O. - Don't be like T.O., kids! I live in China and contrary to what people think, Chinese have no problems with the letter 'L'. I'm surprised a Chinese-American would feed this false stereotype. I think a lot of people are going to be embarassed by this.

Some players are defending Reynolds. I live in the 'diverse' Bay Area and can say that these diverse groups tend to come off as whiners. Now...before you jump on me for being insensitive... Quite often we hear how people of 'diverse' backgrounds want equality. But they don't really want equality...they want special treatment....they want recognition. I do not condone bias against anyone...but at the same time we should try to keep things in perspective. Was the video out of line? Having not seen it hard to say but it would appear so. But is it worth all of this hoopla? I seriously doubt it. It shouldn't come as a shock to anyone that professional 'jocks' are insensitive to others. We all grew up with the jerk jock...some of us may have been that guy. Why are we shocked or outraged by this? The mayor and the 'Leaders of the city's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender community'(pulled from ESPN.com article) need to spend time worrying about the real problems the city faces...not what some dumb asses at the 49ers think or do in a private setting. The LGBT is all about privacy in the home and the ability to be 'who you are'...unless you disagree with them.

It's like satire fell off a cliff and landed on irony... Very funny line, 86!

Stofer, I live in the area too and I think by itself the video is bad but not horrific. But this isn't a lone incident from an otherwise well-run organization, it's the latest in a line of bungles we've seen since Eddie D. was given the boot. As such, this is going to cost the franchise severely and, for instance, I wouldn't count on seeing a new stadium plan approved any time soon.

I am outraged that they blurred the pictures.

billy...true, that tape is likely the final nail in the new stadium coffin. it is unacceptable when your a business (sportsteam)owner to put together a tape that could leak out with any material that might be offensive to even the most miniscule of fan bases(LGBT). I agree that it is unacceptable. My point is that the members of LGBT can choose to boycott the 49ers. Making it a community issue that needs public apology is what I am taking issue with. The 49ers don't owe the community any more than any other business. If they are smart businessmen they will work hard to nurture a good relationship with the community but at the end of the day they don't owe the LGBT or any other group a thing. They are not recquired to be nice to them. They should be...but that is something different.

Exactly, billysaysthis. The 49ers organization was the class of the league under Eddie DeBartolo. He had winning as the goal above all else, building the team into a dynasty with good decisions, good hires, good drafts and good luck. York has done nothing good, and has managed to turn the team into a laughingstock in an incredibly short period of time. Crap like the leaked video just shows just how bad the management has become.
